Yulia Lipnitskaya

Yes, it's very lucky that she got the Adidas sponsorship and can focus on training for now. But I don't think it's unusual for skaters with interoverted style to be popular. Johnny Weir comes to mind as another skater with such a style who was very popular all over the fs world. Actually, it's my favorite style of singles skating. (Not that I don't appreciate other styles, but it's my favorite.) And Yulia actually doesn't always skate in this style. For instance, her Elvis Presley SP wasn't introverted. Ditto the "Isn't it wonderful" exhibition number last year. She can do different styles very well. In fact, I always find it incredible when technical ability, artistic talent and artistic range coincide in the same person. No wonder Yulia is so popular. No matter what she's skating to she lives it on the ice. She has an amazing authenticity and charisma.
Thing is, she was also introverted OFF ice (or at least very reserved) at the time her popularity errupted. She visibly wanted to be left alone, but the more she expressed it, the more she failed.
That's the only Julia's request we fans did not, do not and will not fulfil. Ever. :p

I think it's the journalists who didn't leave her alone, although it seems that they've thankfully stopped once the Olympics hysteria had passed. I think the fans who wish to interact with her in person mostly just wish to give her flowers, get an autograph and say a few words to her after her performances. At any rate, in the interviews I've read with her and Tutberidze there were mentions of journalists who tried to sneak into the rink, followed her outside the rink, installed overhearing devices in her changing room, interviewed her neighbors in Ekaterinburg and, if I remember right, also invented interviews with her. I don't remember any complaints about the fans, though.

There are certainly extremes in journalism, but let's be real: general idea is, that they are representing and serving us, fans. You can be sure there are plenty of people who would have loved to hear what Julia said in the locker room, what she had on dinner or whom had she called.

It's unethical though. Everyone should have his own privacy respected in this regard.

I'm sure there were plenty of people like that during the Olympics, but I'm equally sure none of them were Yulia's fans. They could only be the sort of people who watched fs only during the Olympics. No real fs fan would wish to have any skater's privacy invaded. The yellow press doesn't represent or serve us, and they know it; that's why they stopped stooping to such tricks after the Olympics craze had died - their audience had lost their interest in the skaters by then. I've read nothing but indignation regarding unethical journalists' methods on any fs resource.

She seems to have more muscle though....but I agree, the Evgenia-leg-syndrome worries me slightly. Still, the overall vibe I get from Yulia's recent photos is that she is physically healthy and mentally ready to return.
