If at this stage he is still recovering then I guess not attempting GP season is becoming more and more real

There is still time and we don't know how close his treatment is from finishing, I think that option is still very far.

Well he can still get choreography by July and go to some late GPs like CoR and NHK. However given that the schedule last season was too tight for him in the first half (NHK-GPF-National within a month), I hope he will only go to NHK if he was about to skip GPF.

Not necessarily so. Last kind of trust worthy comment made on Yuzu's condition was made in Figure Skating TV by Yaginuma-san. She said "the most recent report on Hanyu Senshu's condition is that he will resume on ice training in mid May if a pain in his toe goes away". And we learned in his Figure Skating Life interview he was still feeing pain in mid May. Then he was just not able to start training from mid May, but maybe he is able to start training now and already doing choreo gradually. That means he is behind schedule, so he is skipping the ice show. The organizer does not want to make their shows look not important for Yuzu, Yuzu does not want to say outright my training and choreo is much more important. So maybe they had put a lot of focus on his not so adequate recovery. We do not know really anything about his condition, yet. And their explanation for making last minute announcement sounds like they are just trying to excuese themselves a lot at least to me. Again it is only a speculation since we do not know anything about his condition from any official source. There are still a lot of time left though.

More or less what it had been told some months ago, reduce the jump passes and the lenght of the program, but only after Olipmpics

He already started rehab. So he should be recovered soon. I don't think he will skip the GP.

ETA: He might skip the senior B.

I wonder why they made that choice...
they have been so hellbent in trying to shorten the timing of the program and competition. Spiral sequence for woman was gone before now the men need to suffer too

What does this mean and where I can read about it? Proposals to shorten figure skating competitions, inc. the reduction of the # of jumps in singles & pairs, were approved at #ISUCongress16. https://twitter.com/icenetwork/status/741282615160930304
Also: new GOE from 2018-19 More from #ISUCongress16: Anonymity of judges is abolished, # of Grades of Execution increased to 11 starting in 2018-19, new draw procedure https://twitter.com/icenetwork/status/741284040901300224
I don't know the proposal for less jumps and shortening program was approved since the proposal to shorten SP/SD was rejected. I don't know how implementing higher scale of GOE will change anything later since judges seem to give GOE as they please sometimes :confused2:

If he fully recover by July or even August I doubt he will skip GP. The earliest GP is late October and if he got assigned to later ones in mid November + NHK at early December he likely will still go since I doubt he want to miss GPF completely. Besides, the latest news said he already started rehabilitation by now, right?

I guess it has something to do with the broadcast schedule. E.g. they want to shorten the time for broadcast. They changed the skate order draw procedure for the sake of TV rating too.

The reduction in jumping passes could also be to slow down a bit the quantum leap in scores that the men went through this season. It won't change anything for the inmediate future, but such drastic change would never be approved from one season to the other.

I think they approved the removal of anonymous judging to cut back the inflation they saw this season. There is no room for higher scores any more yet there are two more seasons before the Olympics.

The reduction in jump passes only takes effect after 2018. That won't impact the scores before the 2018 Olympics. Also they will increase the goe to +5 after 2018. That doesn't help slowing down the inflation.

I hope they reduce the goe factor if they are going to increase the goe scale to +5, otherwise we will see massive inflation after 2018. Judges will be given more tools to manipulate the scores. The ISU should restrict the judges as much as possible. More freedom to the judges means more room for manipulation.

That's why I said it would make no difference for the inmediate future (aka. The seasons before 2018). The inflation in those years may reduce w/o the anonymous judging (though I think we will see at least another WR before the Olympics), but they also have to think further ahead, and a reduction in jumping passes is a more drastic measure, even though it will take two more years for it to be applied. But if they are upgrading the GOEs then it's useless. It might be useful if the judges used them accurately, but that will most likely not happen.

Shall Yuzu keep competing after 2018, this would help him in terms of exhaustion and he might focus more on the step and choreo sequences like we see him do in practice

Yeah, because as Weir said, if the judges had the option to give yuzuru's NHK and GPF's jumping passes +5 they will, because honestly in some of his jumping passes I seriously doubt it could be executed in a way that is much much better than the way he did it. I don't know how this will solve inflation in any way.
Also this whole inflation talk, if it is because yuzuru almost maxed out his layout's score (322 and 330!!), that was because he did it almost perfectly during those times. When he didn't deliver he will get 180+ with the same layout and his PCS would be in the high80s-low 90s (patrick's kind of disastrous skate at oly got 92 PCS anyway so yuzuru getting similar score in a disastrous skate is not really extraordinary). Those kind of performances don't happen every time.
