Just from memory, I read that he used painkillers but I can't remember from which article that was in.
About his spirit, Shirota thinks he was mentally a mess at one point, I think it was the time in between the SP and FS. He was understandably upset after the FS but Shirota said he didn’t cry at all.
Brian's name wasn't mentioned so I don't know.
The complaint about the rink size was that it was 4m shorter than what a figure skating competition rink should be, and about the ice condition, there were visible puddles on the surface on both sides of the rink so it made it hard for long arch jumpers to execute their jumps.

I've been reading multiple articles so I can't remember which info. came from which magazine but they are from the same writer, Naoko Utsunomiya. I read the July and August issues of SPUR and an article from a literature magazine that came out last week.

On the literature magazine, it said that Yuzuru's been spending his days off the ice by listening to endless music from classics, jazz, rock and hip hop because he'll have 2 new programs to choose music for next season.
Thank you so much! Every bit of information is very appreciated with this almost silent & newsless off-season.
He's been through a lot last season. Perhaps we didn't see the entire picture when jumping with joy from his success. I have so much respect for him. I would give him some of my energy and power if I only could to help him on his path because I simply love this guy for who he is. On and off the ice, he's unbelievable.
Hope he chooses great music that would inspire him and help him to show best performances next season. Light spirited, please please please. :hap10:

This info actually made me angry as hell.
You see no one can stand in your way and treat you as a child when you're an adult. There's also a tradition in Asian countries that prevents people interfere in order to prevent someone loosing his/her face in public. It's a very delicate issue. So yes, people would praise his spirit because that is his fight not anyone elses. And he has to ask for help and let himself step down when necessary, he has to. It's he who has to let doctors treat him the way he needs to be treated. And also- the army of people who serve behind his back (Federation and sponsors)- they all need to know when it is the time to step back and lift the responsibilities off his shoulders in order for him not to feel obliged and guilty for not being able to fulfill his obligations, so he can heal.
It all makes people crazy and mad but his position holds a lot of obligations and responsibilities we can't even imagine. I only hope that he makes wise decisions in future in order to have a quality career in sport for upcoming years, no matter how many of them he plans to have. And that people support him no matter what. I will.:)

Thank you.
This info actually made me angry as hell. Doesn't he have a medical team with him? Where were the doctors? What kind of primitive ways it is to make his foot ready for the competition? Any painkillers taken at the very least? I got only scaring message out of that. His team probably can't comprehent the fact that you can exacerbate the trauma this way easily and his figure skater spirit is not enough to deal with injury. I also can't comprehend how they just took his way of thinking just fine, believing his words and observing everything happening to him, everything he did by himself like that.
Personally, I don't think it is anyone's fault . It is just in sports, injury happened and sometimes it is inevitable, whether it is in football, figure skating, boxing or basketball. In Yuzuru's case, I think even if there is a medical team around, it is impossible to specifically diagnose his swollen feet as lisfranc ligament damage unless he is thoroughly checked in a hospital with X-Ray etc. Even the best doctors would not have known the extent of his injury without proper equipment. Someone else mentioned here that lisfranc injury is very difficult to diagnose as well (they only diagnose this after a thorough check-up in Canada post-Worlds). Swollen feet can also be the result of a sprained muscle (which probably is what happened to Javi), and it could be subsided with painkillers, NSAIDs etc. So considering the condition, I don't think it is anyone's fault, and I always consider this as an event where nothing much could have really been done about it. If Mrs Shirota makes him skip practice, there is no guarantee that he will skate well too during the FS. And if he skips practice and skate bad, then there would also be comments like "He should have gone to practice" so sadly there is no winner here. The best that they could have done probably was to pull him out of free skate event and withdraw from Worlds, to prevent further worsening of the injury. But the consequences for that is huge, Japan would not have had regained their 3 spots. With everything that had happened, no, I don' think anyone should be blamed for this. :)

Hip hop and rock! (Though I doubt he would actually go with it)
Wow, it would be months until we find out what programs or music he would be using. The wait feel endless

that's great, I hope he surprises us (in a good way ) with his music selections.

He's had lots of time to listen to LOTS of music so I hope he chooses something beyond normal, something he really loves and feels. This is the season to take a risk or do something he can really sink his teeth into and chew on. After all, what he chooses this year will help him develop for the all important season after that.

I think there are definitely people in his team (mother, Kikuchi-san etc., his family even) who are so close to him that no borders, rules or traditions prevent them from caring about him and helping him directly overcome his hardships, be spoken the most terrible and honest thoughts to. Teams are there for this, be it Japan or Russia. I know that he discussed whether to change his SP layout after SC or not with his family first. And he himself let everyone know recently that he relies on his team a lot. After all this info I had a big cognitive dissonance. Well, I certainly hope that magazine just tried to put more drama in there, as Japanese media obviously love that; painkillers were inevitable as an adequate escape from the pain.
I definitely hope that both Yuzuru and his team will make wise and benefiting decisions in the near future, too. Only they know how to do the things right.

totally, as long as he really likes the music I think we will see a good program, even if the music choice is not that original, after all POTO was very loved.

Thanks!:luv17: I love rockstar yuzu, since I know he enjoys every moment to see him! I also miss him very much… And im sure he’ll come back with an exciting program!

Here's my last set of Yuzuru photos & videos (unedited) - from Worlds:

Thanks a lot for your series of works!:) I can enjoy them. Hope you’ll see him in good shape at a competition where you will go this season!

Another set of souvenirs...amazing (source). Close-up of them: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 , #7, packaging

Yuzu's fans can make a big business from all the lovely souvenirs they made :agree:
:

Truly professional work…:luv17: Just awesome. This year, we have much time off season. For the past years after Olympics, during off season, he was doing shows, CM, etc. and we were busy catching and sharing information, etc. But this season there’s nothing about him! And we do a lot of handmade work wishing his recovery.

The thing is: you can rely on lots of people but they can't perform for you. He has the final say anyways. :)

So here is a bit an interesting off-season episode,
It seems that the fan has heard that from the owner of the noodle shop where Yuzuru had visited before the NHK of the last year.
According to the owner, Yuzu had told her/him what “Everyone coming to the NHK Trophy for the purpose of seeing Mao-chan (not me), she has an aura more than me.”
S/he also said that the both of Yuzu-kun and his mother were polite/modest and beautiful persons.

Such a humble boy :sad46:, he has definitely has an aura as well.

Another blurry video where we possibly can see Yuzu- please wait for a few seconds. He seem to stand in a starting, closing pose: https://www.instagram.com/p/BHHsmsejgNs/ Sorry if posted already.
Edit: the poster on Twitter says Yuzu is the guy in grey with a person in black showing... what? Seem like jump technique? I let you decide who's who cause I'm not sure.

He really needs to know it was not entirely true, he has an aura that is very strong and captivating and people love him for that.:luv17::love::agree2:

I also can't comprehend how they just took his way of thinking just fine, believing his words and observing everything happening to him, everything he did by himself like that. And just let it be this way. That's not trust but ignorance and disinterest. His behavior and struggles are not samurai spirit and respected mental strength but a big problem to be fixed and a mix of bad mistakes from his team needed to be learnt from.
Javier has been injured too, couldn't practice because of that, but thanks to decent medical support he won the competition. Yuzu's injury is chronic and needs to be healed in a long period of time (and he got his rest) but did they even care before the WC? It was a first stage of tendon injury anyway.
Mrs Shirota is saying odd things too.
Sorry for the rant-like comment but all I've heard in a couple of months - serenades of journalists about Yuzuru's noble struggles and pain enduring experience, his team blaming his competition timetable and the ice condition and no real explanation how they should have dealt with his pain, how they should have healed him, what was learnt and what can change. I don't want any more noble suffering. I get it that injuries will always take place, but it's never the same tragedy for other skaters. They don't do absurd things because of lack of real help from their team and doctors. I may be very mistaken though.

As far as I know from my own experience, (I injured my hand last year,) when a ligament is damaged and surrounding tissues are swollen, all you can do basically is to rest the ligament and wait for the edema to be cleared away. When the pain is strong you can take painkillers but my doctor didn’t recommend to because the pain is an important index which let you know the possible/impossible movement with the injury.

As for Yuzu, I don’t know if he used any medicine or not, though I think he and his team knew (or roughly knew) what was happening to his foot because he had taken some measures not to damage his foot further, like taking some rest before starting preparation for Worlds, switching 4T-3T to 4S-3T in FS, taking one-day off after two-days of training, deciding to take long off after Worlds in advance, etc.

The way he treated his injured foot during the competition scares me a lot, and makes me wish that this will never happen again. However, I think he wanted to compete that much and I can understand it because what he (and maybe many of the top athletes in general,) sacrifices for those competitions are so much, and I also think that those people around him knows that much more than we do.

However, he is not always choosing skate over his health. The time he spends on the ice is relatively shorter than other skaters, and he had skipped shows and even competitions in the past to take care of his body. From the way he talks about his body, I think he knows his own body much more than we do about ours. So I believe he and his team will find better way to train and compete after this experience.

Yu-Zapruder!

It's very difficult to identify the figure in grey at the back. It could be him. On 1st look, I thought the person in black at the side, standing still was him. Maybe it's Jun Hwan Cha (maybe grown taller), who's got some of that elegance too?

Can't wait to see him clearly in some videos - & then in person!

I doubt it, Jun is still smaller and the height difference seem to match Yuzu and Brian. And the lean figure match as well. 🤔But, of course, without clear image it's indeed very hard to say.
At least we can take comfort in knowing that he's back on the ice and taking things as they go, not rushing. :)
