Not bad! As a side note, what a beautiful dress! Anyone know what music she's skating to? Just curious what music it might be for.

I'm worried about Rika Hongo dropping off the world team. Wakaba Higuchi seems to be very favored in Japan, placing 2nd at Nationals last year when I thought she should have only been 4th. She's a strong jumper and has very good basic skating but the artistry was lacking. It does seem that perhaps she has improved in this regard, though, looking at her recent exhibition. I hope her skating is less plastic this year and that she does not rob anyone of a spot at Worlds if it isn't deserved.

I don't understand Mao's selection. Skating to a soundtrack over 2 programs can be okay, but the same music, just orchestrated differently? I don't see how this will be great.

There are still some skaters missing but I'll update the post as soon as more programs (or information) will be revealed. Although she's not participating in the GP series, Haruka Imai has two new programs that may be choreographed by Phillip Mills.

Adding to the list: (source: http://taranofsdiary.jugem.jp/?eid=294)
Riona Kato
SP Cherry on the Ice Wall- (last season)

Rika Kihira

Also adding:
Yuna Aoki
SP Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy + Sing Sing Sing
LP Les Miserables

and I think
Kaori Sakamoto's The Artist should be her LP?

LOL, that performance from Miyahara. She threw a 3Toe onto every jump. I don't think it's a very good program, not sensing much of a theme to it and there weren't any special moves, aside from the nice spiral (which could have been held longer). The dress will need to change too.

I didn't get Miyahara's music selection - some pretty skating and she did the jumps - not super amplitude but she can tack on those triple toes which might be helpful come competitions but the music, the dress and well there is no cohesion, theme at all. She could have skated to anything. Maybe the dress was so distracting - with globs of fabric flying everywhere and in her face. This is a step backwards for sure.

I was watching the video of Mao and I realized something. She could maybe also represent Japan or Canada in dance with Jeffrey Buttle they are exquisite, organic and have great skating skills - he may have to beef up a bit or they would be wondeful pairs skaters too. Someone make it happen. They could do individual triple axels take that you Duhamel and Radford and a throw triple axel in the short.

The music is not my favorite either but the program has shown the potential, there are some wonderful details and the first part is especially very well constructed. I really liked her stsq. Second half still looks a bit empty but at this time of the year it does look pretty decent already. This program has already shown the signs of multi directional skating which can show her skills better than her Liszt program imo. I agree about the dress and I didn't like plain hairstyle either but usually Satoko changes dresses for competition , so let's hope she will.

I love the music and concept of Satoko's new program, but I'm not sure it's the right vehicle for her. Despite her polished presentation and impressive commitment to choreography, neither her jumps nor her skating have the power and attack to live up to grandeur of the music. It's sad, because everything else about her is so admirable.

Too early to say. She has a full year ahead to prove she can handle the program. Kudos to her for challenging different genres season after season. Not a lot of skaters do that.

Not just the style, she changes order of her elements including spins and sequences, changes order of her positions on her spins, she doesnt repeat same combo spin from sp to lp (and its the one she changes direction)

I've actually seen a lot of positive feedback for this program outside of forums. Her choice of music is unexpected and unique and I actually do think she's skating with a little more power. That is obviously impossible to notice for people who dislike her skating. Skating with power is a challenge she set for herself but she can't please everyone. I guess when a skater challenges oneself, their efforts are "LOL" worthy. But she's probably going to LOL harder when she'll start collecting more medals.

I don't know why, my inner feeling tells me that Mao is going to be strong this year.

Then I really, really hope you are right :)

Regarding Satokos LP, I'd agree that for now she doesn't seem to be able to match the power of it. She has beautiful attention to detail and delicacy, but she'll need to be able to skate "bigger" with this (much as I dislike this term). It'll be interesting to see how far she grows - I'm sure she will improve (she did with last years SP and her new Ex shows that too), but it's quite a big task so the question is will she improve enough. Anyway, she really deserves respect for pushing her boundaries - much as I might dislike her jumps or whatever.

Well - to quote quite a few people's reviews over the internet, Satoko's step sequence is "chill inducing", the program is "amazing" and "her performance is already showing signs of greatness". It's a matter of taste and disliking her skating from the get go does play a factor. In the end the judges will decide if she'll manage to skate "big" enough.

I don't know why, my inner feeling tells me that Satoko is going to be strong this year. :agree:
