2016-2017 State of U.S. Men Figure Skating

I admit I cringed as I favoured Jason, but Joshua is such a gorgeous skater. he is so young. Why does he retire? Hope he will come back. I understand he had a concussion. Now this head injuries are not born equal. Some are OK some are not. Honestly I have no clue why he retired.
I am so sad.:(

Did you read the article at all?

We're in full on summer competition mode now!

I've edited the original post to include summer comp scores and inspired by others, I've also added the programs for the U.S. men for your reference.

What have been your impressions of the U.S. men so far?

ETA:

I think both Timothy Dolensky and Alexander Johnson both had a solid competition at Skate Detroit and have started to make their case as contenders for that SA TBD spot.

Also, I like both their free skates. I'm glad to see some diversity in the U.S. men as far as program choices.

Keegan skates for Canada now, not the US.

I'm disappointed that he hasn't established himself as the #2 Canadian guy since the move. A missed opportunity so far, particularly last year when I think his packaging was the best it has ever been, but perhaps this year he'll be able to do it.

Glacier Falls will be the big summer comp...it's practically a mini-nationals with several 2016 nationals competitors: Grant Hochstein (S4), Ross Miner (S5), Tim Dolensky (S7) Vincent Zhou (S8), Sean Rabbitt (S9), Shotaro Omori (S12), Ben Jalovick (S15), Jimmy Ma (S16), Robert Prezpioski (S17). And of course, Jason Brown -- our first look since Team Challenge Cup and after several weeks with Frank Carroll.

This will give us a nice lay of the land.

Max is going to be at Collegiates this weekend also. Hoping for videos!

Updated the summer comp scores to include Glacier Falls.

Some thoughts:

* Jason Brown certainly made a statement with two nearly-clean (2Z in the FS aside) programs here. Yes, no quad, but generally pretty much where he probably wants to be at this point. I'd be more concerned if we didn't see something during his early season senior Bs.
* Timothy Dolensky looked pretty good here too. I do feel he is building his case for that Skate America TBA spot.
* Vincent Zhou looked great in the SP, not so much in the FS. I did feel his FS needed a bit more mileage. i like the concept though.
* I loved Sean Rabbit's tango! He really sells it! I hope we'll see him at a senior B or two this fall.

It's exciting to finally, finally have some actual performances to talk about!

Adam has also looked quite strong already - I'm on a bus (in Colorado!!!!) so will add links later - Jackie Wong has them.

I don't know if I will be worried if we don't see a quad at Jason's Sr Bs. I would rather see him land three really solid 3As and then add the quad later.

Following up on the local news article that had said that Nathan would be performing in Sun Valley shows:

According to the Jun 29 article, Nathan was scheduled to be part of tonight's show (along with headliner Ryan Bradley) and the Aug 27 show (along with headliner Gracie Gold).

But ... Nathan's name never was added to the Sun Valley website, so I'm guessing that the article was based on inaccurate information in the first place.

Hello all, I was feeling sad after watching two of my favorite tennis players Venus Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska ranked #6 and #5, lose in the first round in Rio to players ranked 30 spots or more, below them :sad21:. So I watched Nationals and I realized that I haven't heard any news about Alexander Johnson. Does anyone know how he's doing this summer? While we're at it, how's Richard Dornbush looking?

On John Wilson Blades' instagram they have a clip of Nathan doing a 3T at Sun Valley and saying that he'll in the show tonight.

Ohhhh, thank you for the enlightenment, karne :).
Very glad to hear that Nathan really is in the show. Go, Nathan :yay:.

I looked up the Instagram link: https://www.instagram.com/p/BIyFJYAAKNq/?taken-by=johnwilsonblades

I was feeling bad that I potentially had (inadvertently) led everyone astray by posting the article back when it was published -- so my post earlier today was intended to set the record straight.
Instead I led everyone astray :hopelessness: by saying that the article must have been inaccurate.
My apologies to all.

Hello Mrrice, a Japanese fan at Glacier Falls tweeted that Sean [Rabbitt] had said that Ricky [Dornbush] was taking off the year and perhaps coming back for the Oly year. I do not have the link here, but it is in Japanese which a poster on FSU kindly translated. I understand full well that it is fourth hand, but so far it is all I've seen.

AFAIK, Alex is training, but I cannot say for sure.
