2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

Okey dokey now I get it. Because we can't expect teenagers or folks in their twenties to actually use like real, original swing, from like the 20s or 30s. Sigh.

But this cover band could be great, I wouldn't know, so we will see....

I don't have an opinion on the band, but Lewis & Bye's program to their music was my favorite short dance at the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships. Bourne & Kraatz also used "Jumpin' Jack" to win bronze at the 2001 Worlds. So the music will do the job, so to speak. And Tomoki is quite musical so I think we have a pretty nice chance of getting a good program there as well.

Guys, someone posted that Yuko & Sasha are bringing back Joe Satriani and their Claire De Lune programs? Aren't those from 2011-12? Are they out of music / ideas? Come on! I love them but they need something more. Claire de Lune three years in a row is too much and that "All Alone" number is just plain done.

I doubt that they're out of music or ideas, especially Tamara Moskvina. Probably due to Yuko's injury they didn't have enough time to create new programs and polish them till the beginning of the season. But I don't understand why they chose these programs. They've already used Clair de lune for two seasons in a row.

According to interview with Eteri Tutberidze, Polina Tsurskaya's short program is to the Game of Thrones, but the program has different story:
Music for the short program is from “Game of Thrones”, but it has an indirect relation to what she tells on the ice. This is the story of an artist, who paints pictures, but doesn’t like any. She’s suffering, trying, looking and suddenly begins to draw on herself. The picture is so mesmerizing that with the words “I experienced the perfection”, she kills her creation …

Free program:
The free program is about love. We came up with a very interesting beginning. It has become popular to take a photo or a selfie on the topic «I follow you». When someone is standing with his back to the camera, holding out his hand. That’s how Polina’s free program starts. And then … love. She leaves, he returns her, she follows him …

^^^ thank you for that link. I enjoyed the whole article, especially the parts where she talks about the process of choreographing, and when someone has success like Zhenya's, (or for other skaters too I'm sure) ... everyone starts to have some doubts. And "we tormented with the free program" such a charming, descriptive phrase. There's no doubt what they experienced! So they changed everything. Very interesting as to the creative process, in all the arts.

Also, I'm intrigued by what she said about Alina: "The main task is to survive psychologically, not to over motivate herself, as it happened last season." what does that mean to you, to over motivate oneself? Want it too much? Think too much about the placement, not how you skate the program? Something else?

OT, somewhat, since I picked up parts of the interview that are not about the programs.

I'm familiar with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, I've listened to them but I don't like them that much, their songs sound too similar to each other and are quite unoriginal. However, I love their song Jumpin' Jack to death. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEWuZ0QBvlo

Well, it sounds suspiciously familiar....But this time neither Eteri nor Averbukh is against changing a program) Maybe situation with Lipnitskaya has taught them something?

I think it means that last season Alina wanted too badly to show what she's capable of. And Eteri thinks that she needs to be more calm, have a clean and cold head, not to think about placement or possible result.

He certainly is - he's done the choreo for Liza's LP. Also, he's worked with Plushy, and in fact a few days ago was in Sochi to work some more with him.

Well, I haven't been watching the inner world of skating for very long. So some new programs weren't right for Lipnitskaya, and Eteri and Averbukh insisted? Would that have been in the 2014-15 season just after Olympics? I'm really looking forward to Julia this season.

:agree: A good thing for a skater to learn at a young age. Skaters are perfectionists and they usually want the marks. That shift takes many people ... not just skaters ... a long time.

For post Olympic season Averbukh did a program for Julia, which she didn't like and then Averbukh did a Romeo and Juliet for her. But there were a lot of complaints from Averbukh in media that Julia didn't like his program) As we later learned, Medvedeva got Julia's rejected program last year.)

Oh, yes, that does sound familiar.

I don't love Eteri 100%, but there's no denying that she and sometimes Averbukh make sure her top girls put on stellar programs. I hope Polina is mature enough to take these programs on, because they sound very interesting and different. I also hope the choreography is as good as it sounds! Give me alllll the avant-garde.

Poor Evgenia will have a hard time topping last season's LP though. That was a masterpiece.

I found some hope in this

The October issue of International Figure Skating magazine has an article on Yuko and Sasha entitled "On the Rebound".
...

Their participation in Skate Canada and Cup of China is dependent upon how quickly Kavaguti can regain her competitive form. "Step by step we will see how the progress of technical and physical recovery goes and what form the pair will achieve," said Moskvina. "Then we will decide where to compete, what elements to include, and what programs to skate."

so maybe just maybe they wil change smth. Even if no the whole programm but maybe new lifts etc etc
