2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

I actually loooove this costume. The look of a boyfriend's shirt but normal lady underwear is super cute and sexy (and I'm saying this as a fellow lady, very comfortable!)

If it's changed to avoid a costume deduction, I hope it is changed as little as possible.

That would make more sense if he wasn't wearing a shirt. Or just a tshirt.

I have far more problems with the program and music choices than I do with the costume. The blues number is muddled and dull as dishwater. They have, at least by this performance, no feel for the Swing, Swing, Swing number. It's just lacking that American Musical/Jazz exuberance and sparkle. The pattern was rough going and not integrated particularly well. I wanted to run on the ice and TIE HER HAIR BACK--it's so (!) distracting. Early days I know, but some of those problems are simply a matter of bad choices. Well, we'll see how it develops.

I actually really like this comment. It WOULD kinda make more sense look better if it was implied to be his shirt.

Upon rewatch, I found the first costume as at least somewhat decent for the song. I could seen Christina wearing that in a music video...so i can deal with it here. But it just makes no sense for the swing part. It felt very mismatched with the music. Which just makes the costume seem odder.

This did feel a bit like pasting together two random songs to fit the requirements. Christiana has done a swing style song... maybe they could use that... at least sticking with the same singer would give some cohesiveness to it. And again... as i can see Christina in the outfit... it would at least match a little. Also it might be nice hearing the same singer doing very different styles in a program.

Gosh Nathan...4Lz and 4F? I don't want to see you injured again...

Nathan! :love::luv17:
huge thanks for posting!
ugh Ill forever be worried about his health tho :sad21:

the first half of Gracie's choreo reminds me a little of Carolina Kostner. She added a touch of curvature, flourish and voluptuous in this Tango piece. I like the music build up towards the ending stsq. it is kinda transitioned smoothly (not like her OG sp, that abrupt transition). Her 3F entry is counter+3turn (instead of double 3turn from last season), this may add a little momentum into her 3F, but still an outside edge according to this outing... Overall, I am pleased with Gracie's new Tango SP, it is a upgrade from her last season Tango SP, like they said in IN interview.

Nathan #Slaythan :luv17::love::o: Ballet is perfectly within his genre. and I think his spin improved a little perhaps? not to mention the crazy jumps. He seems overall softer and more fluid than before.

watched Vincent withOUT music (muted). He also seems more fluid than before. Also I like his shirt. feels abit like Jeff_Butt. give him this Prince aura. That shirt suit her body, much better than tight fitting one piece he used to wear last season.
BTW, I like Nathan's hair style. I also like Nathan's outfit too, simple like a ballet practice outfit for men. Nathan is SOOOOOOOO cooool.

:laugh2: No, hair tying, please. It looks too nice to ruin THAT look :) But I kinda see what you mean about the dance, but only about the blues part. It needs some improvement. Still too early of course, we all remember 'Dark eyes' and Elvis un-waltzy waltz from last season, and also some teams who didn't change their SD in favour of 'originality' and ended up outside of National teams for big events.

I am kinda sure that she specifically chosen this outfit for ice shows. Strongly doubt she will skate like this in actualy competition.

Really? Looks like the same old same old to me...not even sure why she bothered changing the music. And I guess I'm not alone:

Thanks for providing this SBS video.
except for her first 4 tech elements placement is about the same, which is very common in figure skating. Not a single move in-between is the same. Also, her last 3 tech elements spin ,2A and stsq changed placement, and her stsq last season is about circular and this season is straight. I would say that is very big change in figure skating short programs. She just used same tango music in genre.

Agreed. Not sure who on her team thought it was a great idea to have her do back-to-back tango SPs. Maybe they should have saved this one for next season.

This is the very definition of "seeing what you want to see". There is none of that (yet) in Gracie's program. Still the same stiff upper body and mechanical movements, though this will perhaps improve as this is her first outing of the season.

Gracie is not as fluid/balletic in upper body compare to other skaters who excel in that . I agree. yet I mean every adjectives I wrote there when I saw this SP for the first time comparing to my impression of her SP last season. I will not go to details in terms of specific moves here.

EDIT: In terms of why use Tango as SP again. this is my speculation. since Gracie is most likely responsible for earning 3 spots for US. Her term and herself might felt that pressure and responsibility, they cannot do whatever they want and experiments much. Therefore, chose similar music genre as last year, Gracie might felt more comfortable with. They could easily keep the same SP programs, and actually, many top tier skaters do that when something huge is on the line. but they did not, they upgraded in contents and nuance, that shows their sincerity, kudos for that.

How and why? Ashley's and Mirai's showing placement would earn three spots. Polina's and Ashleys would have the year before.
