2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

at first i thought it was a comparison of different choreography to the same SP from last season...until i searched and watched her new SP on youtube...

There's not a single word about them returning to US in this interview. Only their plans till Nationals.
but we can speculate
Maybe they indeed will be back
Its very good that they will have a tech specialist working with them b/s thats where their problems lie

Maybe I'm being too literal, but I have a feeling that the Jay-Z piece is going to be "Hard Knock Life," which samples from that song from Annie...

Mrs. P I think your feeling is right - but apart of literacy I think that both themes - classic Sinatra and modern Jay-Z - could be quite complimentary and work well as a program. I trust Shibutanis in their SD - they can always pull of a strong-themed one, with great interpretation.

As for FD...Well, a lot of room for speculations - this could be 'evolution' in personal sense (considering their last year breakthrough), 'evolution' around certain feeling (friendship, relationship...) or theme ('evolution in music, art...). Anyway - looking forward to some first clips and interviews!

Well, watching Lombardia pairs SP, and:

Della Monica/Guarise - Carmina Burana

Ji/Leftheris - Angels & Demons

Also Lombardia pairs' SP:

Butkute/Ermolaev - Scorpions: Maybe I Maybe You

Yes, I actually think it would be a great combo if that is indeed the case. The songs are also both of similar tempo and cadence.

Yes, I'm interested to see what they come up with the FD. It sounds like something that could be ethereal, which would be perfect for them.

"Hard Knocked Life" makes a lot of sense with "That's Life". I was kind of hoping they'd do "99 Problems" and then go oh well, "That's Life".

As for Evolution, it looks like they're maybe becoming more avante garde. Maybe it'll be like the Duschenays with their named programs that didn't reveal the specific pieces of music "Tribal Rites"; "Missing"; "Mirror".

Where is their first competition?

We don't know for sure yet! 99 Problems would work nicely too. Actually Jay Z and Frank Sinatra in general is just a good mix given what they sing about, their beats, etc.

They haven't been assigned a Senior B yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them at Ondrej Nepala Memorial.

Just watched the video of Jason Brown's short program at The Lombardia Trophy, and apparently Jason has changed his short program. He announced earlier that he was going to skate his short to Appassionata by Secret Garden. But at Lombardia, Jason skated to Writing on the Wall (performed by Sam Smith, from the James Bond movie Specter).

"Sing sing sing"

So we have Feeling Good from two U.S. dance teams and Sing, Sing, Sing from two Russian dance teams. It really would not kill people to talk to each other within their own Federation during the summer. I realize these teams train in different countries, but sigh. (On the plus side, maybe Zhulin really will go digging a little bit deeper for Bobrova & Soloviev's swing piece. Probably not, but one can hope).

Don't forget two Writing's on the Wall SP's from USA's men.

It would be in Zhulin's best interests to change it because the two pieces don't work together for B/S. I/Z dance looks to have potential, I may be biased but I love it :)

Obviously, Jason's team did not care since they brought this out after seeing all the other programs. (There were at least three Americans using Writing's on the Wall this summer). And, truly, if you select Feeling Good or Sing, Sing, Sing, you don't really care either. These camps had to know their teams wouldn't be the only ones using these pieces of music. But even with a warhorse selection, I'm not sure one generally anticipates one's close competition to have the same choice. And both Hubbell & Donahue/Hawayek & Baker and Bobrova & Soloviev/Ilinykh & Zhiganshin are a little too close for comfort, IMO.
