Deniss Vasiljevs

Thank you for the link.

Living in Latvia I have not noticed any differences, but perhaps Latvian Russian is a bit different from the "real", Russian Russian, especially as people who are the second, third or even fourth generation living in Latvia speak it?

Its not included as Latvia's official language but you can still enroll your children to russian schools and you will always have your parents speaking russian at home .Well maybe your right, the newer generation might be more assimilated.

I was surprised at how well he speaks English, and I heard him speaking Japanese, although I have no idea how good it was. Is our multi-talented Deniss also a linguist?!

He also speaks some French since he was living & training there...and his new coach is a native French speaker, so I wonder if they communicate more in French or English. Well, he's definitely much better at languages than I am. :laugh2:

Stephane talks about working with Deniss in this fan meeting clip from Verona:

https://youtu.be/EZrIhrVipb4?t=425

He talks about Deniss's recovery from his injury, about rearranging his schedule to be fully committed as a coach for him, and about how much Deniss reminds him of his younger self. :) He also said they are planning to compete at the Warsaw Cup in mid-November in between GP assignments.

So he is going to Warsaw Cup!!!!! MY suspicion has been confirmed! I was pretty sure he would squeeze in at least one CS and initially I had expected Tallinn cup but when he was picked for NHK I realized it wasn't the case. Now I am seriously churning the idea of being there for Warsaw Cup

I knew he spoke English very well, I have seen several interviews and he is so cute when he speaks in English :luv17: I had not been aware that his Russian has such pronounced accents, as I had assumed it was his first language. But I agree it is possible that a certain "dialect" has been developed in the Baltic regions, in a similar way with German in Switzerland and Austria. I learned that despite the vastness of Russia, their language remains pretty much uniform regardless of the region (perhaps due to the education system back in USSR era?) so maybe it sounds all the more striking for the native Russian speakers when they hear it spoken in different manner.
So now a two linguistically talented skater and coach (Stèphane speaks 5 languages too, French, German, English, Portuguese and a bit of Italian) have teamed up, yes how they communicate with each other would be quite interesting!!!

It is also a very positive thing that Stèphane is fully considerate about how he proceeds with the training after the injury, and he has a full comprehension combined with his own experience. Which is very important at Deniss's age. IMO Nathan Chen's team should take note, I think they are risking too much.

^^These 2 are going to be the Dynamic Duo. Can't even imagine the cuteness in the Kiss and Cry.

You definitely need to go! I'll be totally jealous, but at least we can live vicariously through your reports!

I think I will for real, if I book soon enough the airfare from Rome RT is like €80!!!!! :agree: This is more than doable! :yahoo:

Interesting SP choice...totally different in style to anything I've seen him do, or would have guessed he would do. I'm picturing some kind of hippie costume  although they aren't using Jimi Hendrix's version. I am sure Stephane knows what he's doing...I trust him. The FS music is a bit warhorse-y, but I'm sure Deniss will do a really great job with it and make it his own. Wow, less than 2 weeks until CoR! I can't waaaait!

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the music choice... Is Deniss going to ressurect THE ZEBRA?????

Not sure what I'm more excited about, Deniss' Vivaldi 4 Seasons or the cuteness that we will be seeing in the Kiss n Cry!!!! :slink:

I'm excited equally for both  I liked Alexei Urmanov, but yeah, he's not as cute as Stephane :luv17: (very good coach tough)

I don't know too much about Urmanov, but it seems that everything I read is very complimentary. I think it was after Worlds that I read that his students are all taught very solid technique when it comes to jumps, spins, etc. Do his skaters train in Sochi?

Yes, he coaches at Volosozhar/Trankov's school in Sochi. Prior to taking on Yulia, his most famous student was Sergei Voronov, who became a 2-time Russian champ under him (although they parted ways many years ago). I definitely would consider him a jump coach first and foremost, having learned from the master himself, Alexei Mishin.

It's a beauty! Not sure about the little bit of blue in the middle though...
Lol I thought the same about that blue bit  well, the lower part of the costume is invisible, so when you get the whole picture perhaps that part becomes a little more relevant :p When I saw this particular profile and expression of his face in this photo I was also stricken by the vague resemblance to his coach at his age, it was uncanny!!!
I can't wait to see this programme, finally next weekend!!!! :hap93:

Oh my gosh! The Twitter photo almost doesn't look like him! Check out the arms too. Looks like he's been hitting the weight room!

When I came across that picture I recognized him only because of Stèphane next to him!!! God, I just ordered a Tshirt for him (I am hoping to see him at Warsaw Cup, I trusted Stèphane's words in Verona and booked my trip!) I hope it isn't too small for him!!!
