Jason Brown

This was great!! :hap10:

Love how at one point you can quite clearly hear little disturbances in their microphones because they are trying not to talk and also trying not to ooh and aah too loudly or too much

I also loved this! If you haven't had a chance to listen to the CBC broadcast of the free skate I posted in #6799 above, be sure to do so - it is different than what Doris posted and is punctuated by Kurt Browning's admiring comments in the footwork, of all places, where he explains what other skaters see and compares him to Jeff Buttle.

I keep watching all of the different versions on a loop, can't get enough! :laugh2:

Statsonice has updated Jason's FS and overall score, which are now the top scores by a US male skater.

His FS score is 0.02 points higher than his Nationals 2014 score (Riverdance).

If he gets two quads in he can break 200 at Nats, lol

I feel the need to say that I said this months ago.

Honestly I think the world podium is not out of his reach this year. The judges are clearly rewarding botched quad attempts from him, i can't see them not rewarding clean ones even more.

Wouldn't that be something!

I'll be ecstatic if he even just makes the World team as it might be my only chance of ever seeing him skate in person. If he does make it, I will sit at every single practice from start to end. I'll be volunteering there, too, but happily my job is the kind where I can just take my laptop with me to the arena

It would be so exciting for Jason to make the World team. I feel so fortunate to have seen him live 5 times! :clapper: But I'm greedy, I want more performances! I hate that we have to wait until the end of November to see him at NHK. But maybe that's a good thing, since he'll have time to continue perfecting his quad.

I know he can do it! :hap85:

thanks! the fan who's come from japan described on twitter the scene and she really praised his servicemanship, calisma, etc through the competition. he cherishes his fans and he dedicated to japanese fan club also. He gives his comments in japanese and he speaks with smile even when he is tired. so lovely a character.

How is his Japanese? I am sure he is finding that it is a humbling experience to learn it! I can see how he and Shoma are forming a friendship now that they can communicate with each other. Jason is so good to his fans!

Ain't that the truth *as I'm about to study Japanese over my lunch break*.
I notice on his Instagram he'll write in both English and then Japanese.

I will say that I was shocked when Kevin Reynolds was interviewed once and his Japanese is practically fluent.

I hear ya. I signed up at a junior college and loved it but had to drop it. And I loved the writing even tho it seemed hard. I heard Oda doing one of his tv things the other day and couldn't figure out how he could get the words out that fast. I know my lips would get stuck on my teeth, or some such thing!

I speak it faster when I've been drinking which is the weirdest thing lol. I took it at university (in an 18 credit semester) lol. Then I had a tutor for a while after I graduated. I've watched anime in Japanese since I started high school (I'm now 31) and I've been there a couple of times. So I actually have a decent accent when I talk and anytime I go there I'm asked if I live there. Now I do self study. They have a lot of apps for it that I find really effective. I'd been avoid kanji for the longest, but it's a little crazy that once I bothered with it I can already recognize 300+. My goal is to get to 500+ before I go back in January lol. But for skaters like Jason, I wonder how they find the time to study. It seems like their lives are crazy busy. At the same time it's really smart because with skating being so popular in Japan someone like Jason who'd be a great show skater could have a very lucrative career there. And it always helps to know the language and connect with those fans, building your own fanbase.

I wish Johnny and Tara had done as beautiful a job as Kurt and Carol did.

And two great references :) Toller Cranston in the SP and Jeff Buttle in the CD!

Plus I thought I heard the Russian commentators mention Patrick Chan!

Jason is moving into very illustrious comparisons!

I heard them say "Patrick Chan", too! I would love to know what they said. I mean all of it. I only recognised a few words here and there, and it's so frustrating

ive posted in his thread the same thing, but his japanese teacher tweeted that kevin never skips his japanese class even right after the cometition. he must be tired of the cometition, but he comes to the class. Anyway, kevin is so bright a guy. to hear him speak, you can immidiately see his brain.

And I thought I heard the Russians say a word that sounded like "artistry" really close to when they said "Patrick Chan". Of course they could be saying, his artistry is nothing like Patrick Chan's, but I doubt it:biggrin:

Don't quote me on this, but it's something like this. After Jason's quad, they said it wasn't too long ago that Patrick Chan was talking about the quad not being necessary. ???That's not the case today.??? Not sure about that last part. Get me some fancy transcription equipment and I might be able to do more. ;)

I've wondered the same thing, unless they study during some of their LONG plane rides! :) I also think he has a private tutor who gives him lessons, although I could be wrong about that. But he still has to do the memorization...You're way ahead of me. I'm still learning hiragana. That's awesome that you know that many kanji!

It is so nice. he doesnt use difficult chinese characters and use plain characters. im very impressed that he writes it by himself and try to master a foreign language which is totally different. If you read his Japanese, you will have tears. It really shows his character, sincerity, kindness...

Yes, i was wrong. He write in both English and Japanese on his twitter or so. I collect information using a twitter collecting twitters about figureskating widely. On the account the twitters are mixed.

I read the same thing on Kevin’s thread but his Japanese teacher admires him that he never skips his class even after the competition weekend. He must be tired so much, but he comes to the class. Further, to hear him speak, you see immediately his brightness.
