Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Actually, Fernandez is doing what Orser advocates: stick with your layout and push for GOEs and PCS. This is the strategy that led Yuna to win the Olympic (against Mao and her 3Axels programs); what I sensed is frustration that Yuzuru won't stick to this path but follow his own.

Yuzuru has been following his own path since the first season with Orser.

y'all are reading waaaaaay too much in that interview.

Seriously, can you try to be less litteral ? I'm pretty sure Brian meant that Yuzu don't land consistently his 4 quads in every single run through. Which is like you know... human ?

I don't see anything in that interview that shows anything else but a coach who is actually respectful of his skaters strategies and still doing his job to get them to peak at the right moment meaning "not at a B competition at the very beginning of the season but at the actual big one: Worlds". Javi wants to polish his skating because that's what he gets the most critics on and to rise up his pcs ? Brian says ok, but keep the quad loop in your back pocket if needed. Yuzu wants to add a fourth quad because he doesn't want to get beaten on the TES side ? Brian says ok, but pace yourself so you don't get badly injured AGAIN when worlds come in and finish second again.

I don't even understand why this article ruffles some feathers. Chill guys. Our champion is in the best hands he could be in.

edit: plus he never said that Yuzu can't land his 4 quads in practice. He said that last year, getting the 3 quads was the hurdle (meaning 2 out of 3 quads were successfully landed consistantly in practice) and that this year it's 3 out of 4 quads. How is that a jab at Yuzu ? HOW ?????

Rules have changed ever since 2010. And we all know who won at Sochi in both men and ladies. They all did harder layout than the veterans.

I believe Yuzuru is right doing what he feels it's best for him. And the same goes for Javi. I would hate to see them skating without passion (like gracie gold, for example) just because they've been forced by the coaching team to follow certain strategies

Hanyu can land quad lutz, but it doesn't mean he can land it with proper consistency to execute in program
He has been practicing quad lutz in practice recently from what I have heard, so Yuzuru is practicing quad lutz with Brian's agreement. My biggest question is will he ever bring quad lutz to competition? I guess he will.

:jaw:
Lol this constant heart attack.
You know what, I think it's good cause things will never get boring with him and the men's field. :rofl2:
I meant, look at the ladies field nowadays, same old stuff. Even Mao and Tukt don't do 3A anymore :slink:

I just wish Orser would stop negatively comparing Hanyu to Javier. I could take the rest way more easily but I guess I'm out of luck.

That is what I meant above. I think he will. I think that's the long term strategy. Get used to the stamina needed for a 4 quad program, get that down then switch. It'll still be off at the start but not as drastic a change.

he has been practicing quad lutz?? ho that is interesting!! maybe that is why his 3Lz looks so good now!

as for Orser, honestly it looks like he is protecting himself if Yuzu fails so that he can't be blamed.

.

Well then you should give your heart a rest because Brian never negatively compared Yuzu to Javi

About the 4Lz i'm not so sure, I think considering how his feet are prone to injuries, I would think Yuzu will stick to edges jumps for the season.

You guys clearly never heard someone really talk negatively about Yuzuru...

This thread has become such an angst-sadfest...

Ding, ding, ding. I'd offer a cookie as I just bought a lovely bunch but alas, still no way to pass them through the internet.

Frankly, it's not even that surprising. He's a coach, Hanyu is his star skater who just lost two World's and I'm a pragmatic person enough to understand why he talks as he talks. Hanyu loses, he is covered because he said Hanyu went against his wishes. Hanyu wins, his reputation is enhanced even as he supported him anyway by working hard, etc. It's a win-win set up for Orser. I'm not thrilled but I understand.

I just want him to drop the constant negative comparing to Javier and I'd be far less irritated. He can say the above even without pointing out the 'good pupil'.

All I ask for Orser is supporting yuzu saying "you can do it , you can do it! whatever your result will be , you've trained harder than anyone, believe yourself. I'm so proud of you!!" please... instead of defending his coaching values himself to media. Yes, I understand some his or other coach's frustation and worries. But skaters always take the responsibilities themselves. At least, as a coach and in hours competiton, just say hope the best at this moment rather than world things..
Anyway, I always think anything can happen at gp series and finally just hope going final stage safely everytime. haha

best luck to yuzu!! do your best !!

the news of Yuzuru praciting quad lutz has been around since summer, from German skater, then the German magazine, I also heard it from someone else. It is not new.

You... you do realize that Brian doesn't give a rat a** about how his skaters results make him look like ? Otherwise he would have ditched his other skaters with not very good results a long time ago.

“I don’t want to talk about who is my rival,” Hanyu said. “I am my only rival.” (Y.H. via Beverly Smith)

The End.

yes because he surely doesn't say "i'm so proud of you" when yuzu breaks the world records. It's so much better for Brian to say it in the press than directly to Yuzu :palmf:

I'm going to tell you a little secret. I actually met Orser and talked to him directly after the Men's FS at the last GPF. I asked him how he felt about tonight and he said it was one of his best night and he was very proud of his skaters. The man was glowing and nothing could take away his smile.

So can you all stop with this self-induced anxiety about how Brian "doesn't like Yuzu enough to our liking because he actually answers the questions that are asked to him and is not just in marshmallow mode 24/7" ?

well that old news hadn't reached me. I had seen that video of him trying 4lz in a show practice and being already very close to landing it but I didn't know he was training it consistently in Toronto. Still I think that would make sense it is what improved his 3lz. 3lz must be so much easier after training the quad!
