Videos

This video is the broadcast of the japanese TV, they show the warm up and the long program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bkvOG01TnU
Edit: During the warm up he did simple jumps, I can understand why Brian was worried

A commentary-free video. (I was ready to find Grishin and throttle him by the end of the gala!)

Yuzuru's EX SC 2016 by B Eurosport

Not even 20 seconds in and already gushing.

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recording of Yuzuru's practice session for his new exhibition piece to Notte Stellata (The Swan).

You'll notice that there were a few other skaters on the ice with him, but at some point everyone moved to the sides and it was just Yuzuru skating by himself on the ice. While the gala performance of this piece was beautiful, this particular practice performance had a different feel to it that may not come across in my video. Maybe it was because there were fewer people in the audience, but it definitely felt like Yuzuru was in his own little world here.

Someone uploaded the German ESP for his FS and Ex on youtube

FS : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG9k9h-L_Sw
EX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmJfpcD_cCg

Here's one video I took at the Gala rehearsal. He is eating food & then gets called over by the choreographer. It's so adorable!

https://youtu.be/vW7FvlHMBro

I'll make another video of all my shorter clips into one video later...probably this weekend. Also, random but Yuzuru has an iPhone! He was checking it periodically during rehearsal.

I found this version of the EX (the image isn't high quality) and this is now my favourite commentary for this program thus far. It sums up my thoughts well.

https://youtu.be/9hquFQibTQ4?t=225

I have no idea where it is from though, maybe Universal? Above it says "Super Sports 3" but I've never heard of it for skating. Actually the guy has some british accent, or maybe scottish? idk the difference well

This instagram account posted so many precious moments from the Gala practice, I can't compute.

https://www.instagram.com/anadnah/

One of my personal favourites is Chanyu Look at the progress, look at them being polite with each other. I can feel the awkward. *single tear* I'm a sucker for friendly awkward rivalries.

My other favourites are the ones with Satoko plus Misha and the fancams of the EX practice for course.

If it was already posted sorry for being late.

Morning news

I love how the news cut out his little loss of balance at the end

According to this article, Yuzuru chose his new EX music from the CD which Tarasova had given him after Boston. With the music she wanted him to skate to.

Idk if this was posted already: Yuzu playing with Luca's hat

Taiwanese commentator mentioned that Yuzuru's upper body has inproved, his shoulder is more open than before. and glad that Team BO and Yuzuru himself continue striving to improve despite all his achievements,

Not sure if this has been posted (if it does I will delete), but Nick Verrreos, former contestant of Project Runway and fashion commentator, wrote a commentary about costume of figure skaters from Skate Canada

http://nickverrreos.blogspot.co.id/2016/10/ice-style2016-skate-canada.html

SP
Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan Short Program to Let's Go Crazy by Prince: At first, when Yuzuru came out, I was like "What the Heck!!??" and then, the Prince music came on and I was like "Done and done!". Hanyu wore a jumpsuit that resembled a white shirt and pants outfit with a multi-colored embroidered vest with black, white and purple being the dominant colors. There was also a nice "Prince"-inspired detail on his pants. The whole look was right for the program and 80's cool enough to make fashion fans happy.

FS
Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan Free Skate to Hope and Legacy by Jo Hisaishi: For his FS, Yuzuru wore this ensemble of black stretch velvet pants with a multicolored green, creme, royal blue and black chiffon top. It was VERY Yuzuru for sure; he does love multicolored ombre-ing and cascading ruffle detail. I'm going to be honest here: If it wasn't Yuzuru Hanyu, I might be critiquing it and saying it's tacky and soooo 80's. But, because it is him, I actually think it works. Somehow with his height and beautiful skating, he is able to pull this off. What do you guys think? Do you like???

Also, I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but it looks like he is looking at the messages written to him by fans through the P&G initiative? It's so heart-warming to see him so surprised at the volume of messages.

TRANSLATIONS

I assume this article is new? http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASJBZ4DYXJBZUTQP01G.html
I hope someone can help with the summary. Thank you in advance.
The whole text is shown in this twitter. The summery is as follows. Further, i found another article about mental issue regarding the starting order. I remember you were concerned for it after Worlds 2016.

the newspaper source is from the twitter: https://twitter.com/sami_stream (sorry, i cant show it specifically)
At the 6 minutes warmup, he skipped some of the planned jumps, which was different from Orser’s instruction. he failed the first 4 loop and popped 4 sal. On the other, he succeeded another 4 sal and got 4t in latter half, when is the hard time for stamina.
He had a firm strategy. He had the experience that he’d run out of stamina when he had been the second order. Thus, he tried not to decreese his stamina for the second order performance this time.
Orser who’s worked with him for 5 years has well known about his character. he says, “ there weren’t before a 6 minutes warmup like this. He is like a child before a new toy. He is obssesed with quad.” but he doesnt deny hanyu’s thought and is not impatient. “he is not injury at present. Im satisfied with just that.”
Orser plans to let him tackle other elements than jumps, taking 5 months from now on and to heighten the perfection. he thinks making the peaking later is also OK considering the last two seasons, when he won GPF, but lost Worlds title.
Hanyu has the sense of achievement for that he got quad in latter half and seems determined saying that he will do his best with practice.

the newspaper source is from the twitter: https://twitter.com/sami_stream (sorry, i cant show it specifically)
(On SP day,) He came back to the hotel late around midnight. Cutting down his sleep, he just continued to ponder and repeated the image training. He had the sense that he was not good at the second order. He reflected how to get over it. As a result, he reduced the number of his jumps at the 6 minutes warmup and prevented losing his stamina....

This twitter has the video of woman free of worlds 2016, where Tarasowa seemed to talk about him (and the CD of his ex?).
https://twitter.com/dara_z/status/792871779345821697
Further she wrote down the text for translation.
https://twitter.com/dara_z/status/792985141526364164

Would someone please tell me what’s she’s saying about him?
First part is about Javier and his preparation for Boston, then she says:
"I was sitting having rest from endless TV live streaming when Yuzuru came to me he kneel down and apologized , I am not his coach but it doesn't matter, I am his fan and he is perfectly aware of this. I even brought music for him , maybe one day.. maybe one day.." Grishin - "apologized for what? for disappointment? (not making your hopes?) " Tat: "yes, but it doesn't matter , this is not end of the world".

Further she wrote down the text for translation.
https://twitter.com/dara_z/status/792985141526364164

Would someone please tell me what’s she’s saying about him?
First part is about Javi how he managed to win and that he approached TAT and said like all men do- that everything fell into place, in the right time- all of his efforts and hardwork paid off.
"TAT: Yuzu also had approched me. I've been sitting there trying to relax and unwind in between our multiple broadcasts. I've been having my rest and he approached and... he just came to me, kneeled down on the floor and said: "Forgive me" (you can say "I am sorry" here but the meaning would be slightly different, I think he did a dogeza poze. Is it called like this in Japanese?) I am not his coach but anyways I am huge fan of his and he sure knows that. And that was it, I even brought a music for him here (to Boston) so who knows, maybe, maybe... Grishin (male commentator): He was sorry for what? That he did not meet your expectations? TAT: Yes. Well. No big deal, really. Not the end of the world."

According to this article, Yuzuru chose his new EX music from the CD which Tarasova had given him after Boston. With the music she wanted him to skate to.
http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/1731653.html
It is .touching episode. The article describes his comments further.

He says he was so deligted at her words. To see the battle of Plushenko and Yagudin, he decided that he would devote himself to figure skating, aiming for Olympic Gold Medal. he thanks Tarasowa saying that he found him really a happy guy that he’d got music directly from the teacher who'd tought the skater who won the title at Salt Lake.

https://twitter.com/gototaisuke

Further, about the theme of music, he says it is the same theme as the program which motivated him to keep skating (after the disaster). He has something rising up from his heart. The previous program shows until (the swan? he?) can come to fly up (again from the pain). This time, the image was like embracing everything tenderly and moving on.

Someone uploaded the German ESP for his FS and Ex on youtube

FS : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG9k9h-L_Sw
EX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmJfpcD_cCg
I had to download these because they're blocked for me, so I can't tell if there are any subtitles. Anyway, a summary:

He mentions that Yuzu was only 4th after the SP, but that what he had shown in the short was not "the real Yuzuru Hanyu" (feel like I've heard that one before). When he falls on the 4Lo (still irritates the heck out of me when they call it Rittberger, as I rarely watch with German commentary), the commentator is like "oh well, one day this is gonna work", and after the program he basically goes, well, that quad loop didn't work, but some of the other jumps were brilliant, and once he manages to go clean on those elements, there will be a few more points to gain, so there really is no need to worry about this diligent athlete. (this is a recap, so I guess his comments are related to the fact that he "only" came second in the end)

After the EX he talks about how Yuzu was behind after the SP because the 4Lo hadn't worked, and that he partly does that jump because he's got some trouble with the toe loop, and that he still managed to catch up in the FS. There's a bit of fanboying when he goes on about what a hard worker Yuzuru is, that he's a fighter, that we've already seen great things from him and that we've been through some stuff with him (ain't that the truth), that he'll never forget the WC after the Olympics, when most of the pressure of the season was already off and everyone's batteries were pretty much empty, but how Yuzuru then fought for that WC title.

He does think Yuzu's totally awesome that much is clear

Thank you very much Lys. I always appreciate the italian comments a lot, and especially those of Massimilano and Angelo.

I roughly translated what was said during the Ex performance so that people here can have an idea of how positive those two are when talking about Yuzu. (Italian is my second language, and although I'm pretty good at it I may also be a bit rusty, so for the Italian people on this forum, don't hesistate to tell me if I mistranslated something )

M :And now Yuzuru Hanyu who was again unable to dispel the Skate Canada malediction. However he showed us hints of some very promising things in both programs. Besides he won the FS.

A :He won with a clear margin : the technical content he presented is very high. It may not seem high to his standards, but it definitely is for the other skaters. He couldn’t overtake Chan because of too many mistakes in the short though.

-----

M :Lately Ex programmes have become competitive ones for a number of skaters (ie Kostner and Chan). Here there is everything to do so with Hanyu. What a prospect !

A : Yes. This is a skater with very exceptional skills. And even here where he finished second, he gave us a hindsight of what is to come next. Probably the greatest skater to have ever graced the ice in terms of what he is able to express through his skating.

M : Obviously people will wonder why he didn’t win. The answer is simple : he was unable to complete this season’s newest element , which is the 4L. Had he landed at least one he would have won. Anyway this is good enough to secure him a spot at the GPF.

A : There is still the NHK to come where he had historically faired better compared to Skate Canada. It is also later in the season so he’s more in shape there. He’s clearly upping the ante yet again this year. To think about the mindblowing things he did last year, we are now anxiously waiting for the NHK to see if he’ll repeat these kind of performances this year.

--> So Massimiliano is thinking of a possiblity for this Ex to become a competitive programme. I wish he is right !

This kid just cracks me up in so many ways. He has so many sides to him... serious, eloquent, dramatic, respectful, hilarious, awkward, sweet... now organizational.

I know many here don't care for TSL. But Kimmie Meissner was the guess for the SC recap and she said some nice things about Yuzu. Among those: That he is "unreal" and "His 3A gives me life" She also said this wouldn't slow him down at all, but we all kind of know that already

Is it just me or do I feel like TSL uses Yuzu's name for publicity...they use like 20 different hashtags for a picture he is barely in and he is always their thumbnail picture  Oh well, I don't blame them...if it brings in the huge audience :scratch2:

EDIT: keeping in mind, I'm part of the minority that actually likes TSL

Maybe he wants to do 3T on 4lo in sp (if he lands it) just in case of possiblity of missing 4S

or another possiblity , maybe he will start SP from 4S to get better warm up for 4lo

Doing combo first is safer , he throws so many points if he fails but well, for him combo as a first jumping pass is for cowards :palmf:

About Let’s go crazy by Prince, he hadn’t listened to his music, so he continues to study about him looking into his videos and words through internet.

Among his words, he was inpired by the words like “you can find something leading to your success in your failare” (*note: i dont know the original words by Prince.)
“You might find me a perfect skater when you see the last years NHK cup and GPF only, but i hadnt had the perfect performances withought mistake until then. Challenge is my life and my passion is that i get stronger after the failure. I always keep this in mind that there’s no limitation, so i sympatized with his words very much.”

A fan serched Prince’s words which yuzu mentioned, but cant identify it. But she finds this site:

ANA’s new site was updated. The interview was held this summer. Im sure some translation site will show the whole translation later. As always, he talks about his earphones enthusiastically(lol). The photos are really nice. He seems cool and calm. This site has 3 pages, be sure to click all pages.

About free program, he says there’s not any certain character unlike last year’s Seimei and the music is lyrical piano piece (*note: at that time, his music was not revealed.). “I guess people will have each different view, but i would like to inspire “something” in the bottom of their hearts. SP and FP have totally different impressions with each other. I hope i will show each different side in one competition.”

Omg this! I couldn't agree more! I feel like he is doing layout with risks that is not proportionate to the rewards (point-wise).
I was wondering why he just didn't do : 4Lo,4S2T,3F///4S,4T,3A3t,3Alo3S,3Lz instead of his current layout (4Lo,4S,3F///4S3T,4T,3A2t,3Alo3S,3Lz). The difference in Base Value is only 0.13 (!!!) point but he get to do his combo on the first half while he is still not tired + if he misses the first 4S he can still attach the 2T to the 4S in the second half. It won't disrupt the timing matching with the music too from what I see.

I doubt 4Lo3T will happen unless he wants to do 4S first? The timing of the jumps for his SP has been perfectly sync with the music. But well we know what happened to Chopin before so nothing is impossible too I guess.

Traditionally the night after SC SP is a brainstorming one for Yuzu and he uses to take very crucial decisions.:laugh2:

Last year it was to crazily update Chopin SP, and he proved the world he was right .
Actually he took the decision to avoid jumps in the FS worm up and he started experimenting new combos during Ex rehearsal practice exactly like the year before!

now we need to wait till NHK to see what's going on in Yuzu's mind, I'm very impatient !

Well I guess he does 4S3T in 2nd half purely for wow factor morethan anything. It's not worth point wise

How about a 4T3T though? I seriously cannot wait to see what he's going to come up with and I think there are going to be changes in both the SP and the LP.

As for the 0.13, it is probably big in his eyes, considering the 0.33 and it's also probably a matter of pride and what Marin says. We'll go white due to him

Lol true. I meant Medvedeva is doing 2 triples-triples but point-wise it has no advantage over a skater who does 2 2A3T or one 3-3 and 1 2A-3T.
However, I do think doing quad combo in the first half is way less risky. You probably would feel too conscious that you are doing a quad combo in the second half, and if moving it in the 1st half increases the success rate, that 0.13 pts extra really doesn't worth the risk. Besides, there is such thing like GOE, perhaps it is easier for him to get high GOE on solo 4S and 4T in the second half than 4S3T and 4T

I think the 4T3T is probably not coming back to the FS, considering injury and all. If anything, I would assume if it were to make a comeback it will be in the SP. I think doing 4Lo and 4S3T is very risky if he is more consistent with 4S and 4T3T. The BV difference is indeed 1.7 point, but if he can't really rely on the 4Lo by the time of Japan Nats, I think it will be wiser to just drop it in the SP.

Sorry I wasn't clear, yes, I was talking about the SP for the 4T3T because you were talking about Chopin there so I just continued. I need more coffee :p I think I remember a bit posted during the SC where it said the 4Lo was more unstable lately, so if that continues, we might see this version, even if temporarily. With the PCS scores being close, they might figure it's better to play it safe for the SP and not play massive catch up in the LP that has its own risks again as it is.

Doing a quad combo in the first half of the FS is definitely less risky overall and IMO more logical but our logic ≠ Hanyu logic. I really wonder if it is a matter of pride partially and of saying yes, he is that confident that he'll put it off. Though he may surprise us and switch. They were looking at those scores intently after, and will definitely take a look again. Optimization may very well end up being crucial in terms of the most chance of success of a clean element + biggest GOEs = biggest score considering how packed the programs of many guys are plus the PCS scores. But then again, Yuzuru and playing it safe(r)...

Hello again to hamaguri!!

I think his EX is gorgeous.. (also I can't believe I was being so slow. The Swan is also one of the music my ensemble is currently practicing haha). I'm ok with the costume, though the deep V neck and back I didn't expect  idk I just feel like no matter what I just wouldn't be surprised with his choice of costume lol.
I admit it's my first time knowing delayed axel. However I think the sign that it's not a popped axel is there, like his arms and legs position. The fact that he jumped high is probably just his natural/instinct as he's used to use that power to jump thus the height.

Gosh it gives me goosebumps.. so beautiful. So enchanting. Idc if people find it boring, he doesn't have to do a fun ex to entertain, it's far from boring for me. It's such a joy and blessing to be able to enjoy him skating like that. I think it's really special that when he's skating even without all the big jumps, you can still see that he's a great one, that the jumps don't make his skating.

That short clip of him and PChan conversing  it almost looked like Yuzu was approaching him (slowly and shyly lol) and tried to make conversation (about whatever it is) and wow that happened pretty long good job on English, Yuzu! :agree::laugh:
