Figure Skating Anime

Be a little more realistic... after 2018 scores will go down because they will cut one jump pass and the choreographic sequence lol

Not the choreo step!!! If they want to cut a step sequence, cut the normal one. It will give skaters 30 more seconds to...you know....make a program.

Shoot, I forgot about that.
About his retirement thoughs: it looks like he's rethinking it? I love the character development here: Yuri admitting that for the first time he actually thinks of winning Gold. Then asking Victor to coach him until he retires? Whoa, that was a huge step (hahah, I agree with Victor that it almost sounded like a marriage proposal) because 1) the deal with Victor was to coach him until the GPF and then go to Russia and 2) he was planning to retire quite soon. Asking Victor to become his coach for good sounded like asking for a lot of commitment, and not only professional.

Is he? I took it as he's planning on retiring at GPF, to "release" Victor so that he can return to competitive skating I imagine, which is why he says coach me until I retire. He knows it's just a few more weeks in reality. Victor's response being what it was thus makes him cry.

There is also the spoiler about that, the summary for next episode is out:
On location at the GPF site, Barcelona. Victor, having a blast doing some sight-seeing during their down-time, has no idea of the decision Yuuri has come to… Yuuri randomly flashes back to the nightmare bucket party of a year prior and starts to go a little pale…“

So considering the first sentence, Yuuri does want to retire post GPF. It's probably the problem that is coming out of his general feeling of insecurity. I kind of really wanted him to skate this FS well, instead of what we got because there's a lot of relying on Victor there. Still, his words were a progress so that is something. But his decision seems to stay and I guess it'll be up to Victor in the end to decide. I also know this is all from Yuuri's POV but I really wish we got something more about Victor. He is still very much of an enigma in all of this. /end white

If he pulls a Machida. I'LL SCREAM. Girl, not again in a fictional world!

Also finally a half-decent animated routine for Yurio. I couldn't stand anymore the calf body porpotions and filler shots. I know i'm terrible for pointing it out but are they really going to spend the budget animating well only Viktor and Yuri's routines? I feel like half of the budget went to Viktor's 1st episode routine and the other half for butt shots. Keepin' it real.

I've been thinking about that and I would be genuinely p-off. I still think it's his insecurities that are currently talking so he is rationalizing them into it is his peak, which it obviously is not, it wasn't even for Machida, and the whole age thing, which again, Victor is older by four years. He's seen all these people talking about Victor returning to skate and we know he's insecure. I am hoping that Victor gets mad at this whole making one-sided decisions thing while not telling him and sets him straight. Ideally for me, we get him to stay as a skater with Victor coaching him or they train together under Yakov and skate for one more year at least because Victor'd be 29 by then and we're really stretching reality then.

I wish they kept their scorings a bit realistic. When all these top skaters start getting the scores they do in GPs, let alone in GPF or Olympics, it starts to feel like I'm watching Dragon Ball Z all over again with everyone getting constant power ups to god-like levels and beyond without much favouring of the plot. :slink:

TBF I rather liked the last arc of Super, even if the power up levels were a bit whack and they jumped the shark with the end of the Future Trunks Saga. I thought they were better off leaving it with Future Trunks slicing up Zamasu with his Spirit Bomb Sword and groovy power up. They should have left it there - but no, of course Goku has to be the one to save the day by pressing the Zeno button. GDI, just when I thought it was great that someone other than Goku got the final kill on a big bad...plus I also thought it really freaking sucked that Future Trunks and Future Mai basically lost everything and everyone and the only way they could go back was to basically go to another timeline. If they were going to pull that, they should have stayed in the present.

Ahem, sorry for the :otopic:

I saw that too and might have yelled a bit. I knew the true King would appear at some point!

Right. Be warned, I HAVE MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS EPISODE.

First: THEY CHEATED! I've been trying to figure out how they would get both Phichit and Yuuri into the GPF and here they go tossing Mickey into the mix and cheating on the tiebreak. ROOOOOOOOOOD.

Second: YURIOOOOOOOOOOO! I love how this was such a big episode for Yurio character development. The katsudon pirozhki was awesome. I love that he wanted Yuuri to skate well. And I love that he hates JJ so much. Which is fair, because giant d-bag.

Third: JJ IS SUCH A FREAKING D-BAG.

Fourth: The Mickey/Sala storyline is just getting creepier and creepier IMO

Fifth: YUURI'S HUG-FEST OMG. I cracked up when Yurio was running away.

Sixth: OMG MACCACHIN LIVES!

Seventh: WHAT THE PLUSHENCHRIST THAT SCENE AT THE AIRPORT OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG KISS ALREADY NOT QUITE HMM BASICALLY MARRIAGE PROPOSAL OMG WILL YOU TWO JUST FREAKING GET MARRIED ALREADY I CAN'T HANDLE THE CUTE

And last of all: YURI DON'T YOU FREAKING DARE RETIRE

Also, I'm starting to feel like season 2 might have got the nod, because they keep mentioning Four Continents etc, and I wonder if that's a hint that there will be a season two for those. That would be really great.

The relationship between Yuuri and Viktor is so fascinating. There is such a deep connection, however, I still don't think their love for eachother is romantic.

And to be honest, in reality, there is a reason why coach student, teacher student etc. relationships are more professional. Unless you are Megan Duhamel, an off ice relationship with your coach usually won't go down well.

Why, "unless you're Megan Duhamel?" I just don't get it. They're barely 4 years apart, Yuri is fully adult, there's no power imbalance that I can see. Their relationship was actually shown to have progressed quite naturally and, frankly, it's one of the healthiest canon relationships I've ever seen in anime (actually, I can't think of any healther from the top of my head, fictional romances tend to be very dramatic and often effed up). To be honest, I don't understand how their connection can be seen as not romantic. It was the reason why by episode 5 anime fans were all "if the creators don't go through all the way with it, we will f*****g rebel".

Sorry, I 100% disagree. I think Victor and Yuuri's relationship is absolutely romantic and I've really enjoyed the way it's developed.

That said I was really a bit disappointed that they didn't kiss at the airport. At first. Until the "proposal" scene.

Point 7 is most of us I think, first it was kiss but then it was wow, he didn't deny the proposal. That's really development in their relationship, considering how emphatic he was before and now he just blushes and smiles. I really liked the whole zooming in on their feet too. I'm totally spoiled by these two I tell you.
Didn't even think about that as a possible season 2 but yes, now that you mention it. The show is really popular and it's possible they have a provisional green light to put hints in, then depending on final DVD/BR sales. But I'd love, love it.
We are not even done and I'm already sad that it's almost over.

That's ... very true. Their romances are so messed up sometimes and only slightly most of the time, that it truly is one of the healthiest relationships I've seen. And it's between two adults too which gives it additional bonus points in my book.

The Kazakhstani skater is the Brian Joubert of the anime skating world. :dbana: But didn't you notice what is really the most outrageous??? D10'S doppelganger just won a GP and if this isn't desaligning the world's lines to the maximum I don't even know what else is!

Watching Yuri on Ice makes me want to recommit to my weight loss program.

Step 1: Need to keep away from those pork cutlet bowls!!!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

in Ep 9, it's disappointing that Yuri bombed and it shows he can't skate well unless Victor is with him, which is pointless cause he needs to learn to be independent and how is going to compete against Victor with that mindset? or maybe the writers just wanted him to flop this time cause he's been so consistent until the Rostelecom FS and then make him win GPF after barely qualifying would be dramatic for the audience lel.

Lee Seung Gil's crying scene was the highlight since he always has this poker face and cold impression that makes him robot like and inhumane, and too bad the only 4Lo didn't make it to the most important competition in the world :p

And eww please stop this Mickey-Sara incest please! their relationship is just plain gross and unrrealistic! usually, siblings grow up fighting with little explicit affection for each other yet still having sufficient family love for each other but those two are just too much! #StopIncestInYOI :roll5:
