Lol im sorry but I have just watched the last episode of Yuri on Ice, and i cannot stop thinking about Yuri = Yuzu. In addition to, the episode is the begining of the GPF, so a lot of coincidence
I thought the exact same. I think there aren't really similarities personality-wise, but all the other details are just based on him/inspired by him.

Since when Yuzu fails so spectacularly in his performances that makes him go back to Sendai and eat until he bursts, separates from Brian and makes Plushy coach him
Not to mention the complete lack of confidence, many people saying that he isn't really talented but works hard to compensate for it, needing a Senior freshly graduated from Juniors to teach him quads and the "when not skating, he is taking ballet lessons"And of course, Yuuri's body=Yuzu's body
I'm sorry, i get really mad when people try to compare this anime character to Yuzuru. They have nothing in common, just the fact that they are japanese, idolize a russian skater and Yuuri in his SP had the same hairdo as Yuzu in his current SP. Plus, i doubt Yuzu would want to marry Plushenko (if anything it would be Javi, since he apparently said that Yuzu is his skating wife or something like that? Either way i don't think that would happen) And believe me, I WANTED them to be more alike, since Yuzu already is a legend and we would have tons of merchandise. But no. They are nothing alike.

that should be enough for anyone who has followed a bit of Yuzuru to dismiss any distant similarities between Yuuri and Yuzu

I doubt that's taken from him, since Evgenia and Javi have been seen with tissue boxes. It's more like following a cute trend that coincidentally was started thanks to Yuzuru. And i get mad because i am tired of anime fans going all "OMG REAL LIFE YUURI!!!". He's not, he's an alien, not an anime character

Well, no. I mean I am not a fan of the perpetual Yuuri is Yuzuru from anime fans either, especially as that's pretty much been cleared up but the tissue box is because of Yuzuru. Not Zhenya or Javi. It is Yuzuru who is famous for his Pooh. It's because of him, as a Japanese skater, done by the Japanese animators who wanted to put a touch of him into Yuuri too, just like there's Machida's past, a bit of Dai, a bit of Oda. It's really not a huge deal and it's cute to see a little detail from Yuzu too, along with all the other Japanese skaters within Yuuri.

If they had put a quad monster in the anime i would have screamed in rage. I'm glad they didn't go down that route but still aagh, i have people on my fb who are huge anime fans and they keep liking posts where they take photos of Yuzu+Plushy and try to match them with screenshots from the anime. I love the anime, but these people really make me want to scream.

They didn't really put active skaters in it, apart from slight touches whether it's their programs or like the tissue box or Ashley's outfit
and well, you've always got obnoxious people, whatever happens. I saw that mostly at the start, not any more, sorry you're still stuck with those but plenty of good fans too and some tiny percentage will grow to like skating in general so that's always good, especially considering the state of the sport. I feel the same, it's been really frustrating that on so many of Yuzuru's popular videos and on other posts about him people just comment "omg Yuri on Ice in real life!!!".... it's like they're only interested in him because they think he's an anime character and don't appreciate him for who he really is. I know not everyone is like that and I'm glad that some people may become genuinely interested in figure skating and in Yuzuru as a result of this anime but as of now it's really irritating.... I don't even want to look at Youtube comments anymore -___-

That is my exact feeling. If any of my acquaintances who are liking those posts comes to me and asks me about figure skating i would be like this. Yuzuru is cute and extremely appealing to anime fans, but there's more to him than just a pretty face and adorable ADORABLE SMILE, he made me enjoy watching FS again and i'm sure he can make more people fall in love with the sport too

Yuzuru has a unique beauty on the ice. LOCO! LOCO 4S. It is so fast that I can not count the turns. It is getting better and better every day.
I hope your eagle eyes have mapped every hole in the lane.
