Yes, I know it won't make you invincible, it is a virus we are dealing with, after all!! Quite the thing, viruses!! And, if it's the wrong flu vaccine they put in the shot, it is useless. I believe for NA they use data from the southern hemisphere winter to determine what strains of influenza are most prevalent that year and then develop the vaccine based on that information. I remember that maybe 2 or 3 years ago, the flu shot was useless as they chose the wrong flu strains to put in the vaccine. Outbreaks all over the place.

Yeah, it made me wonder if Japan does emphasize the flu shot. Does anyone know? it would seem a simple thing for athletes who are on airplanes and exposed to all sorts of germs for hours at a time.... even to minimize the effects would seem worth it.

Lol yeah it's definitely a hit or miss due to antigenic drift. Most people don't realize the virus mutates and think just because they were vaccinated last year, they don't have to the following year. :roll5:

Are we into a mini-off-season now? :( I feel sad just because I'll miss him.
But get well, boy, I can well wait!

Strange, i never had the flu, ever. As a child/teen i was often sick, but i never had the flu, and i never were vaccinated  :confused2:
And i definitely won't do it now, i don't believe in this stuff :dev3:

I hope this only applies to the flu vaccine cause...yikes. :shock2:

I guess we will be missing him until february?
I will miss him tons too but he wiill get better and (probably reluctantly) get some rest.
Then we will be treated to the full power of Planet Hanyu :)

Yeah, the earth is old and grey without some light from that planet... :) Or is it a star already?

Baby Yuzu please get better soon T-T Must've been a tough decision for Yuzu considering he's such a fighter. The only consolation is that his family will be taking care of him.
How are we going to get through the next 56 days? (assuming we see him at 4cc Feb 14-19... Valentine's gift for all of us fans?)

He did use the word "hoshi" but AFAIK it could mean both "planet" or "star". I lean towards star although technically big bangs create entire universes, but if he was just referring to a big explosion/amount of energy it could've been a supernova and that leaves us with material for a new star :P and then we would have the Hanyu System (instead of solar system lol).

I was wondering the same about flu shots. Considering how he's come down with the flu before and it affected his preparation for worlds I would've expected him to get vaccinated each year, unless he's allergic or athletes aren't allowed to get vaccinated for whatever reason. It made me wonder if Japan puts an emphasis on getting the vaccine or not since Marin also got the flu.

In Japan, flu vaccination is encouraged by the government and you can take flu shot probably in any hospital you want, but people catch flu nevertheless. Since he has asthma since he was a child, I think he must be making every effort possible for him not to catch flu or cold, because it may induce an asthma attack.

I don't know what to think about people who say he is not sick but just don't want to go to the Asian winter games :rolleye:

My last vaccination i remember was for tetanus like, idk over 10 years ago
I trust only alternative medicine, not drugs that make you even more sick. And because I'm a bacteriophobe since i was 17 or 18 yo, i'm very healthy

Nonsense and sickening. I believe Ms Kobayashi of JSF already made it clear months ago that skaters' wishes will be respected as to the assignment to the AWG.

That they aren't little children who think that life is all roses and honesty? Wouldn't be the first time an athlete wanted to get out of something inconvenient. I don't blame them. It was my first thought too, kinda "good move yuzu".

Except this doesn't make any sense because Kobayashi-san already said way way before that the skaters' wish will be respected and they won't be forced to join AWG. Why would he make excuses and technically lie and forge a medical report and condition to not join Nats just to avoid AWG. I don't find this "accusation" towards Yuzuru to be nice or in any way respectful at all to him to be honest. :rolleye:

ETA : Lol seriously at some people. Don't make groundless accusation if there is no proof. What you are accusing him of is no light matter. It is something serious that could get him banned from competition. Falsifying a medical condition is something that is against sports and athletic integrity. I would be as upset if this was directed to other athlete, like how some people accused Ksenia Stolbova for faking injuries to skip GP series because they assumed she dopes and did so to avoid the screening. Or how TSL accused Polina T and Fedichkina to fake injuries because they assumed they doped at Junior worlds. It is slander/libel :/

I think it's mostly a case of good timing. He probably didn't want to go to AWG anyway. I don't doubt that he is sick because i don't think is Yuzu-like to give up his national title to avoid an inconvenient competition.

What the hell am I reading here? This is the same guy who skated his FS in so much pain during 2014 Nat, he was admitted into the hospital right after. He has more pride than anyone and has said many times how important the National title is to him, yet here some of you guys are, implying that he faked and lied about being badly ill so he can skip out on ONE competition and willingly gave up on his National title??? A competition that JSF has assured is not absolutely mandatory if the skater requests a pardon?

Wt*? So disrespectful to Yuzuru as a person and a skater. :disapp:
