Did Kaetlyn Osmond make history?

^^ thanks for clarifying... ... then it's sort of an exclusive pro-USA bias... which is not better at all? Is that what you mean? ...

I agree that an exclusive pro-USA bias is not better. :(

It is not better -- but it is a different kettle of fish from anti-Canada bias, which was the topic that had come up in this thread.

... I like skaters from Canada obviously but I like many skaters from many other countries ... that's what makes skating beautiful! ...

:agree: I feel the same way. I like skaters from my country (USA), and I like skaters from other countries too.

Sometimes my interest in skaters from other countries gets started because they are training mates of U.S. skaters .

... in any case, Kaetlyn has silenced her detractors this year! YAY!!!! Go Kaetlyn!

:agree: Go, Kaetlyn :yay:.

Oh lordy. MP clearly started their champagning a bit early this year... I'm not saying *all* people are against Osmond based on her nationality (and obviously my comments was meant to be somewhat sarcastic - bonus points for noticing the sarcasm emoji :sarcasm:) -- but as 4everchan mentioned and as evidenced by comments against Osmond when she's received high scores, people who go after her are the same people who go after Chan and D/R. It seems to some people, they're cool with Canadians as long as they aren't actually winning anything or credible threats. I'd swear the same haters would change their tune if D/R or Osmond happened to be from the US.

I'm certain Kaetlyn is going to make history at Canadian Nationals. She will break 80 in the SP and 150 in the FS and set a new Canadian record.

^^ Given Kaetlyn's trajectory and consistency this season and how skaters continue building towards major events, I am sure most will have season's best performances at nationals (as did Russian, Japanese skaters). I would expect the same of the US women, in Kansas City.

I doubt we will see scores like that at KC. Last year, Gold's pristine 7-triple FS [3z+3t, 3lo, 2a, 2a+3t+2t, 3f+2t, 3z, 3s] scored 147.96, and Edmund's #1 SP 70.19. Wagner's top FS score was 148.98 in 2015, and she scored just 72.04 in the SP. US judges don't inflate scores to the degree Russian and Canadian judges do---they score more like the Japanese judges.

^^ Again, I said seasons best skates. Given the current state of the US women, with injuries and inconsistency, it would be difficult for some to achieve PB's. This is not the case with other federations at the moment. The current circumstances in Russia, Japan and Canada, are much different.

So, US judges do not overmark....really? Perhaps you should re-watch nationals from last year and count the number of missed carrots. I said this after the competition in St. Paul's, that US judges are only setting athletes up for future failures, when they do not provide skaters with an honest critique of performances.

She is kind of making her own history and perhaps for Canada by winning GP medals in one season and advancing to GPF after Joannie Rochette in 7 years perhaps. If she wins a 4CC and World medal, that would also make her history for Canadian figure skating as well. Unless she wins Worlds or Olympics, the definition of making history may remain relatively modest within Canadian history though. I hope she shakes things up drastically though. :)

Wagner, Gold and Nagasu finished 2nd, 4th and 10th at Worlds with scores not out of line with their Nationals scores. Gabby Daleman was fine with her Nationals/Worlds scores, too. OTOH:

Alaine Chartrand
201.99 68.81 133.18 Nationals
157.82 55.67 102.15 Worlds

Patrick Chan
295.67 103.58 192.09 Nationals
266.75 94.84 171.91 Worlds

BTW, I was at St. Paul and saw the performances of the top ladies. Wagner, Gold and Nagasu earned the marks they got, particularly Gold---that was the best FS performance she has ever done. No doubt her disappointment after Worlds was because she was unable to repeat that FS performance in Boston. Perhaps she should have consoled herself with the fact that Boston's Worlds was the best SP performance of her life so far.

once again, using numbers falsely...

Patrick and Alaine had flawless skates at nationals... and very bad skates at worlds... how can you even compare those scores???

Agreed on your points 4everchan and the foolishness of such a comparison. Desperate indeed.

But then there is WEAVER / POJE, who probably skated well at Nationals and were scored 191.73 76.20 115.53 (higher than V/M's 2014 Oly score)
Was that an "honest critique of performance"?
At Worlds they skated well but scored 182.01 71.83 110.18.
