Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I really like this part:
For skaters who move up to seniors from juniors, even when you are wide-eyed and bushy-tailed and good results, it could all fall apart in just one moment in your third year or so. On that note, I think Shoma will be okay. Because Yuzuru is there. Having someone who you are chasing after is huge. You don’t have to think about unnecessary things. In competition, the mental burden of “I want to be XX” or “I won’t lose to XX” is so much different. Come to think of it, does he understand Yuzuru’s burden?

This is really true! I'm so glad Takahashi pointed this out! It's so much easier chasing someone than being chased. And having Yuzuru to look up to is such a gift! I am so amazed that Yuzu, who used to chase Patrick all the time, could still have motivation to improve after he surpassed Patrick and won the Olympic

I wouldn't say surpassed necessarily. Patrick is still a strong contender, strong SS and all. I feel like that's what motivates Yuzu as well. He keeps his eyes wide open, pays attention to all these different skaters, takes the young ones seriously, and finds himself things to improve on. Yuzu's fight to constantly improve post-Olympics is certainly rare for OGM's though - maybe because it happened relatively early in his career + all his kuyashii's from the free skate?

Brian likely won't be around next week for Canadian Nats too. But other coaches would be there so it should not be a problem. He can also work with Shae-Lynn if he wants to alter/add the choreography a bit; as well as doing something about his 4S3T with other jump specialist (like grishlain?). Actually his only evident problem for me is the 4S3T, everything else is just fine.

I guess in order not to lose steam towards the end of the program? It's just such a challenging program to emote and perform. It's quiet like Swan and Requiem, but paradoxically carries all these difficult elements that keep the audience nervous. It doesn't look easy yet.

I doubt he will peak at 4CC. His FS needs tweaking and he needs a lot more stamina to skate it well.

He needs not to fall. And that sounds dumb I know but falling on a quad really eats at you. If he's able to skate cleanly, he wouldn't be as tired as he was at the end of the GPF. Mentally too if that goes well, he doesn't need to quickly think what to alter to keep TES decent enough. Of course, there is the matter of the flu and how much that set him back but there's enough time to be at a good place for 4CC.

Actually considering when 4CC is, it's perfect timing to raise his conditioning, 14th Feb to April is just fine in that regard as you can keep the top zone of athletic shape up to two and a half months if handled properly and peaking comes from that.

I may be the minority here, but I didn't really see his stamina problem? I meant even at GPF I don't get the impression that he was that winded and ran out of stamina by the end of his program, compared to, say, AC for example (or his earlier days when he only do 2-3 quads). He no longer drops his shoulder and lost his posture by the end of the program. Maybe he lost a bit of speed at the time of the Chsq but not to the point where it is very obvious. I genuinely think he is better at controlling his energy now, since he usually goes all out and full power at the beginning of his skate and run out of energy in the 2nd half, rushing from element to element. I don't get that impression anymore from him now. He is getting better and takes his time finishing his move and hold his pose every now and then from what I see.

Some might have already referred, but to me, the part of the translation;

"Come to think of it, does he understand Yuzuru’s burden?",

the subject of this is you (readers) not he (Shoma).

So, the nuance may be;

"Come to think about it, you would understand how much burden Yuzuru has. (You know what I mean.)"

There may be better translation :think:, but I think this is Daisuke's intention.

Yeah I only read the original text and I think that's what he means too.

She says that "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer came to her mind when she saw this Yuzuru. It's really convincing.

Hey everyone, just a quick question for Worlds. I'm not planning on being there until Wednesday night and I'm looking forward to see Yuzu at practices. Do you think he will be at the practices (same day as competition??) listed here on Thursday and Saturday? Does he usually go to all the practices? Thanks. :)

Here's the schedule for practice: http://www.helsinki2017.com/event/practices

An indicator of how fast this thread moves is my post count :laugh: i joined very recently and i am almost at 600 posts.
And the fact that we've had 69 new pages while he was sick with the flu and didn't compete at Nationals!
What is our goal for 4CC :laugh:?

4000? Tall order, I know - but 3500 is just meagre.

But 4 pages without discussing The Great Canadian King vs The Prince of Sendai? I can't believe it's been that long! :laugh:

We are at 3415! We will probably hit 3500 when we get news that he is training in Canada again :biggrin:

Chan fans are mostly the same all over the world - the Sochi gold can't be forgotten or forgiven. I've had lots of fun reading comments in Russian forums as well - it's the same story. :) So many root for anyone who beat Yuzuru - or can potentially win over him. Ah well, never mind - I just wish no Yuzu fans would imitate that sort of insecurity. Yuzuru is human, and he can lose now and again - but he can bloody win if he's in good form.

And yeah, 3500 is just around the corner - we'd all have to be bound and gagged not to get to that point in a few days, given our talent of inventing stuff to talk about when we've no news at all.

Let's see how the Olympics treat our nerves! I think the rate of new pages per hour will grow exponentially as the Olympics approach...
And ooh, i have lots of topics in my mind to talk about :laugh:

I had a wish to read the whole thread - but it keeps moving faster than I can read (I'm a pretty busy person, after all...)
So when I retire... I might read the many thousand pages here! :biggrin:

Just fire away with the topics! :)
