Daisuke Takahashi wrote a column, a small part where he muses about the mental-burden-mitigating effect of Yuzu's presence probably has for Shoma

I really like this part:
For skaters who move up to seniors from juniors, even when you are wide-eyed and bushy-tailed and good results, it could all fall apart in just one moment in your third year or so. On that note, I think Shoma will be okay. Because Yuzuru is there. Having someone who you are chasing after is huge. You don’t have to think about unnecessary things. In competition, the mental burden of “I want to be XX” or “I won’t lose to XX” is so much different. Come to think of it, does he understand Yuzuru’s burden?
This is really true! I'm so glad Takahashi pointed this out! It's so much easier chasing someone than being chased. And having Yuzuru to look up to is such a gift! I am so amazed that Yuzu, who used to chase Patrick all the time, could still have motivation to improve after he surpassed Patrick and won the Olympic
