To coin a phrase: YOWZA!
As I said the previous time I saw the first photo, you can't blame the official.
But as for Andrei. He doesn't need to be caught like this. He gets to see them whenever he likes! :jealous:

As far as I can tell, yes Liza is ethnic Udmurt.
Alina Zagitova is tatar.
They are both from Udmurtia but unlike Zagitova's case, who is confirmed to be part Tatar, it is unclear whether Tuktamysheva is part Udmurt or Tatar. Either way, it doesn't really matter. These are small, niche, sub-ethnicities. They both from the same Mongol genotype, so you could say that these two might have a bit of Ghengis Khan in them (as might I since I'm 1/8 Tatar).

By the way, the last name - Tuktamysheva is directly derived from the Golden Horde Khan Tokhtamysh, who raided, pillaged, and burned down Moscow back in the 1380's. Read about it!

Ah! Didn't realise the Udmurts and Tatars were related. I did know the Tatars were descended from the Mongols, but didn't know that the Udmurts were too. I thought the Udmurts had their origins in Europe, because their language is in the same family as Finnish and Hungarian.
So, thank you so much for enlightening us.![]()

Cool! I often wondered about the origins of Liza's surname.
Xena - watch out! We've got our own Warrior Princess!![]()

No ... what he suggested is wrong. They (Udmurts) have nothing common with Mongols bar occasional Mongoloid influenced appearance coming from their history of mixing with Siberian and other people. They have origins in Europe just like Udmurtia is in European part of Russia. Udmurts though were though culturally influenced by Tatars which ethnogenesis was started by Mongol tribes.

As for their language it's Finno-Ugric but not intelligible with Finnish or Hungarian, they're not genetically close either.
I remember the last time I brought up the language thing, and plushyfan (who is, of course, Hungarian) replied that she cannot understand either Finnish or Udmurt.

I agree, she looked very concentrated but it's always a pleasure when she hits her combo and her lutz. I liked the other SP better and I think she'll probably be a little more relaxed in the FS.Rewatching the short program, I actually found myself wondering if this might not be the best Carmina from a performance perspective that she's ever done? Thoughts?
