2017 U.S. Nationals Championship Ladies SP

i think Karen is going to falter in the free compared to Mirai and Ashley. Ashley is going to lose points on her levels. Mirai is going to win nationals for the second time.

Mirai - Gold
Ashley - Silver
Karen/Gracie - Bronze

I like this prediction.

I don't think Gracie was held up here, to be honest. 64 is on par (actually slightly lower) compared to similar skates at 2015 Skate America and 2015 GPF.

I don't think she was held up either, her 3lz3t saved her. She barely made the 3lz though. She looks really out of shape, just my opinion.

He's right. I don't understand why she gets so little criticism here for the slow 2-footed skating and poor ice coverage. How did she get the highest SS score?

She didn't get a high SS score - only level 3.

Charlie White nitpicks at Ashley big time..stating that she needs more flow, better skating and that she needs to up her game to compete with the best in the world. Interesting to hear that.

Well, he watched her live and he knows such things.

Mirai has the best 2A protocol-wise.

Wonder if the 3A would be coming in since she did well in SP.

I thought the 3A in FS would be included if she does badly in SP and go for an 'all-or-nothing' kind of mindset. But now she is 2nd in SP and there are 3 places for ladies, so….

Yes, I highly doubt Karen Chen's 3-3

I am beyond thrilled for Karen and her skate moved me to tears (a little bit). But I am really surprised the tech panel didn't even mark the 3T for review. To be honest it looks really close and might have been called < if reviewed.

https://youtu.be/NixhPhyYW4w?t=4m46s (The frames freezes and zooms in well after the blade has touched down, which makes the landing appear cleaner and is misleading)

 it is true.

I loved the greens and yellows on the Ice Network scoring tech boxes....shamrock shakes versus lemons/banana smoothies.... the first senior Nationals for Rydberg and Shilling and they both got shamrock shakes all the way

So happy that Karen finally got to skate that SP to its potential!:gclap: And that Mirai skated beautifully except for one slight mistake, and had no disasters.:) I think Gracie skated quite well considering her season and looks to be on her way back. I hope they each have a tremendous FS!

Can't disagree with a word of that. When Ashley was skating, I kept wishing she'd go faster. She's not going to have home advantage at worlds this year and the lack of flow, power, and speed will keep her PCS down compared to the other top competitors.

Gracie was slow on the ice tonight because she was tentative and nervous, but she's capable of skating with much more power and flow. Ashley, on the other hand, just doesn't have the SS to go faster, and compensates/distracts from that by putting effort into the performance and choreography.

Gracie will realize after this season that wallowing in self pity and not getting in shape for the start of the season has costs. Not the kind of year to have a year before the Olympics.

Tessa Hong was my favorite tonight. Honorable mention to Mariah's step sequence, Ashley's combo and Mirai's determination and spins. I wasn't feeling Karen's performance for some reason. Gracie's face at the start told the story—reminded me of Jeremy Abbott 😕
