2017 U.S. Nationals Championship Ladies FS

I think it's a given Karen & Ashley will go to Worlds now.

Question is, who will they pick between Mariah and Mirai?

Unless they really give a lot of weight to her Four Continents Silver Medal, or feel the need to "make up for" 2014, I don't see how Mirai deserves consideration over Mariah.

Wow, Worlds will be .... interesting.

Karen slayed here, but this season, not so much. Ashley is Ashley, I love her personally but I don't get the LP, I'm not loving it, but the international judges like her.

Mariah is a performer's performer, she's got Rohene's choreo to show her off perfectly, but can she finish top ten and help keep three????? She needed major meltdowns in front of her to podium here tonight.

Decisions, decisions.....

Mirai and Gracie are my favorites however I think they should send the top 3 to Worlds - they deserve it and probably are the best team we can field right now.

So I haven't had a chance to watch anything but I just saw the results and I'm so so so so so so so happy for Karen Chen!!!!! :hap93: :cheer: :hb:

Happy for Karen, but really thought Ashley's PCS should have been higher. I do think the top three here should be the world team, but I guess we shall see.

I'm so broken hearted for Mirai! Ironically I think it was the 3A that did her in. That lutz she fell on is where she planned the 3A. Plus she changed the rest of her second half jumps to accomodate thr change. She had two programs in her head and it just came undone.

Ashley should have won :( Her PCS was far too low, she's gotten much higher INTERNATIONALLY for messier programs...

Also, wasn't there a rule change so they can choose anyone from the top 5?

Yes, the Champion is no longer guaranteed a spot like in the past.

Gutted for Mirai :( I hope this doesn't get her down too much because she's made so much progress this season!

But I'm SO happy for Karen! I noticed that a couple commentators noted that her 2015 National bronze medal was promising, but she didn't live up to the expectations the next year where she finished 8th. Well, after boot problems and equipment issues, she went from 8th place to 1st! I hope she keeps skating like this because there's so much potential :cheer: I never could've predicted this, but I'm so happy for her :yahoo:

I was rooting for Mirai to bring it. But there is no reason for USFS to consider anything else but Karen, Ashley, and Mariah for worlds.

You are consistent, Mathman:agree: And normally I go with "who brought it to the ice when it counted" too.

But since I know nothing about the ladies, I shouldn't have an opinion. Knowing nothing never stopped me before:biggrin:

Still can't believe Ashley didn't win with that amazing performance. True that Karen's spins are much better than Ashley's, but if both or neither of the combos would've been called, Ashley would've been first I think. Not even taking into account the international PCS-factor.

But I am really excited to see Ashley skating so well again after the three lackluster performances (SA LP and both CoC programs). Worth waking up at 4 am for. She's back in the game. Now bring back a fast layback spin and keep working on those jumps the way she has since China and she'll be in the best place she can be for Worlds.

will Mirai get the 4CC spot?

Probably depends on if Ashley decides to go or not. I don't think she should. I think at her age peaking for 4CCs and Worlds is probably too tough, and a meltdown at 4CCs won't do her any good.

Kudos for Karen for rising to the occasion after the pressure she must've been feeling after the SP. I truly did not think she had it in her.

I also think they should send the top 3 to Worlds... But I'm just worried because Mariah and Karen are inconsistent and to lose 3 spots right before the Olympics...

The Asian Invasion - except for pairs.

Your post is offensive and inaccurate.

No invasion whatsoever. Karen and Maia and Alex all were born in the U.S. They are as American as Ashley Wagner or Mariah Bell or Madi Chock or Evan Bates or Madi Hubbell or Zachary Donohue.

USFSA might as well should just name the Ladies team tonight. Top 3. And maybe send Mirai to 4CC since Ashley will probably skip. Gracie...needs to switch coaches, fix her technique to what it was before Frank tinkered with her jumps so much to where she's UR'ing now, and come back next season not depressed about Worlds.

It's not just Frank, she is out of shape, and seems to not care anymore. Apparently she is not even doing off-ice since leaving Alex.
