2017 U.S. Nationals Championship Ladies FS

An overall great nationals and I'm elated if they send Mariah. She has star power it would be a mistake to not let her shine! I love Gracie, but there is no way they should send her in front of Mariah.

Looking at the protocols, Mirai had 4 carrots! Those carrots cost her 3rd place.

Those were the jumps they changed for her triple axel program. Now I wish she had just gone for it. At least she could've salvaged the last of the program.

I thought Karen Chen and Ashley Wagner were so closely matched I would've been fine with the result going either way. However, did I find it strange and inconsistent that Karen's 3/3 was marked as clean while Ashley got the UR. :scratch3:

I think that the U.S. is propping up Karen Chen too early. She doesn't yet have the international recognition to get those GOE and PCS scores, particularly with her placements in the Grand Prix series. Let's see what happens at 4CC, which I hope she doesn't skip, to ensure that this win isn't just a fluke.

So much Karen hate. :drama: Tbh I'm not sure what there is to dislike.

Protocols up. Mariah had higher TES than Ashley. Lowballed on PCS in comparison to Karen with 4 points less, and less than a point more in PCS than Mirai. IMO, Mariah deserves higher PCS than that.

Amber and Tessa for Junior Worlds, please, because our junior nationals champ is too young, right?

I am sorry - I only meant to point out the chance for all disciplines to have an Asian American champion. A first and something to be proud of. I guess my attempt at a pun did not come off as intended. I am pleased and impressed by all of them.

Pay no attention. Nowadays, everyone wants to be offended any chance they get.

I think Gracie is going to get the World Spot. Her 4th place finish at last year's world and Frank's power in the USFS will allow this to happen. There is no way USFS is going to send two newbies to Worlds prior to the Olympics. Sorry Mariah, you are out!

Gracie herself was as newbie (and more of a newbie than Karen currently is) when she was sent to her first Worlds in 2013.

No need to apologize in my opinion. I think most people understood you and that term.

Interesting thought, but she's been doing horribly recently. She will be sure to bomb at Worlds, so why would USFS want to do that?

Honestly though, I doubt we will have 3 spots for Olympics. On a good day Ashley can probably finish around 4th, on a bad day she could be 8th. Karen/Mariah/whoever may have trouble finding the top ten, and EVEN in the best case scenario will have trouble managing a 8th/9th finish necessary to retain 3 spots. There are 3 Russians, 1 Japanese, 1-2 Canadian, Ashley of course, for sure ahead, plus more.

I think USFS knows what they are doing. They are actually quite smart to let Karen win. They know Ashley will be able to get top 5 at worlds, they need to prop up Karen so she can score well at Worlds so the US will get 3 spots. You know we can't count on Gracie anymore.

Karen delivered a strong SP and LP, something other U.S. Gold medalists ladies have not. She deserved the win.

I just realized Gracie will not even have a guaranteed bye to Nationals next year. Only top 5 gets that. She will either have to be assigned to 3 internationals off the bat next season, or she will have to compete at Regionals/ Sectionals if the internationals she is assigned to (if she has two or fewer) do not conflict with those competitions. Usually, the first Grand Prix event is a couple weeks after Regionals......
