di manno is useless... she can say whatever she wants... most top athletes consult sport psychologists... i am actually surprised Patrick seems newish to it... if she were very snarky, she could have said he needed it before sochi... but... she just is dumb and says... those aren't the leap that score points... MEH...

she's wrong... that's exactly the leaps (of faith) that score points.... I am extremely conscious of the fight-flight-freeze mentioned in the article... I have battled stage anxiety for a short period of time... either i froze or either I played so fast to get done with the performance that everything looked like a blur.... i have learned how to control these by the same kind of methods Patrick seems to be using (deducting from what he says)...

IT WORKS. Not only it works, but it makes you less nervous because once you know how to get out of the fight-flight-freeze crazy moments, you know that you will NOT keep in there for too long if ever you were to get back in there for whatever reason... so you know how to retrieve your calm at all time, and that allows you to be more and more calm from the get go... I had two performances last week... no nerves. Nothing. One of them was very important to me... I was extremely comfortable on stage... never ever in that whole show was there a moment of fight-flight-freeze... I didn't even have to battle it.

This relaxed state happens more and more often as I go along... sure, it takes dozens of outings to realize that...I hope Patrick gets enough experience with it... but as we go, the episodes of anxiety get less and less frequent and damaging. Confidence is built : one knows that anxiety is no longer ruling your performance, but the performer is controlling the anxiety.

Di manno doesn't believe in it? Well, she just doesn't like Patrick and doesn't wish him well.. Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't even link her article... Gets her traffic she doesn't deserve.

It is fantastic that he feels happy and motivated until now but I am convinced that he as athlete has other goals and I think that even if he does not care about the medals, he can be discouraged by watching the rest progresses more.

That's a mistake calica. Patrick cannot repeat the 3T

He has 2 repeated jumps allowed.

4T, 3A... if he wants to do 4t-3t... there is no room for 3a-3t... either one of them will become a 2t.

this is odd...

regarding the SP : it's okay. base value is 4-5 points lower using the lutz. but if he lands it with positive GOE it's better than a fall on the 4S. I have been a strong advocate of trying the hard stuff now and maybe playing safer at worlds.. but Patrick has his own path... and one of his paths is the following :

Get things clean first....

He has had one clean SP (GPF) but never was he flawless in the LP (one quad turned triple at Nationals) and on top of that, never did he have back to back clean programs for a long time.

Part of what he is addressing in the sports psychology has to do with this too... What I learned is that there are two main kinds of performance anxiety....

1)Interior : If you are not ready to perform.... YOU CANNOT DO MUCH ABOUT THIS....
2) Exterior: You are ready to perform but you get into your head... YOU CAN TOTALLY HELP THE SITUATION

most of what Patrick describes, the tools he is using, relates to dealing with 2).

Once he feels ready, and has performed both programs clean, he may perhaps feel that he can prepare a 2 quad SP but for now, that is probably a stretch for him and would put him in 1) situation.... which is counterproductive....

Patrick is very good with avoiding situation 1)... for instance, he didn't include the 4S at Finlandia as it wasn't "ready enough"... it's vital to avoid situation 1) when you are developing reflexes to deal with situation 2).... for instance, in my case, let's say i have a recital to play, if a piece is not ready, I may not program it... if I feel it's a situation 1.... I keep working on it, until it's ready, then I can deal with it...

Zayaking with 3A3T is something Patrick has never done. No need to worry. It's neither a stupid plan nor a bad habit to correct.
 
yeah... it won't happen ;) and if ever it did, it wouldn't even matter much... Patrick would lose the 3T... but then, he could just also add a 2t after the flip and regain the tiny points lost... ;) at this point, the Zayak rule is starting to make very little sense.... Look at Medvedeva doing 3 3Ts at Europeans... didn't affect her score at all ;)
 
Patrick is not Medvedeva. Evgenia is the nº 1 between women.. she can to lose point... Patrick not, because he has less point in his programs (technic content) that others.
It's better don't risk in stupid content plan (Although if he wants to add a 4S to his short, I will not mind even if he falls and loses points)

I have a doubt about a case like this, in general. Let's imagine for a moment he does that 3A-3T (he won't, I'm sure); by the new Zayak rules the 3T would be worth 0 points but he'd keep the 3A. But will the 3A, by nature of now being a lonesome 3A, get a rep deduction? Or that would be okay, because the 3T, valid or not, would still count as a 3A-combo pass? He also wouldn't be able to technically add a 2T to another jump since he already has a third combo planned and if the invalid 3A-3T counts as a combo pass, he couldn't add another, correct?

this is getting into circular unnecessary talking since it won't happen.

I think that Patrick would do 3A-3T-2L ;) and then would lose only the 3T.... but would still have a combo so no deduction, no loss of points.

I was just curious about how a case like this would look in a protocol in terms of points, since I'm not particularly well-versed in the subject. Not that Patrick will Zayak on purpose! Just that the typo in his planned layout offered the opportunity for me to try to clear this doubt.

So if Patrick were to inadvertently, oooops, do a 3T after his 3A, he can just add a 2L after that 3T to make a new 3 jump combo into a credited 2 jump combo. :laugh: There, Evgenia!

Thank you, 4everchan. I'm glad that you are using the same techniques as Patrick and it's helping you a lot. Keeping calm during a performance definitely helps the performer think clearly and avoid mistakes. This happened with my vocal performance over the past weekend as well.

As for DiManno, her article did contain a couple of good quotes despite her skeptical opinions. I found it funny that she compared Patrick's new discovery of performance psychology to a religious conversion. I guess with her you have to take the good bits and leave the rest behind. ;)

Have you noticed Pchiddy' body doesn't look particularly thin but is slim in this Valentine'. May be that's not at the right angle when the picture was taken.

ermm all i noticed was the awful colour of the skate ;) it does look like an awkward picture.... they should hire blueberryhill, she is the best when it comes to photochans... this one is ermm.... yeah... not flattering.
