In that press conference English part he said he was confused in the 6 minute warm up because he could not find the rotation on the 4loop and because he could not land the 4sal, which made him nervous. He said he trained hard in Toronto and so he was able to do his steps. He popped his 4sal but he was able to do the 4loop so he says he was able to control himself.

Did he talk about why he could not find the rotation or axie during 6min warm-up? Something hit his mind?

I still see the event as being open. Any of the top 3 can win it, even though there is a 6 pt deficit for yuzu to overcome. So many things can happen... remember, they still have to skate, it is not won on paper.

From watching shoma and nathan, I get a sense of freedom and lack of a burden when they skate. With yuzu, it is like there is an accounting for every mistake which is not there with the other guys. How I wish he could become the hunter again.

For expectations it's always nice to come from a place where you are pleasantly surprised than sorely disappointed. All I have to go on from watching him in person is his Boston LP, so I don't think I can ever feel comfortable again about what Yuzu we are going to get. I'll always love his skating, but as a competitor he is more of a mixed bag and I am accepting that and won't psych myself up to expect him to win every time. It's just that when he IS clean, he wins. And he IS capable. But the sport evolves and we are arriving to a place where maybe that won't always be enough. But him executing a fantastic program where he is pleased with his efforts is win enough for me. I'm hoping that since I can go to worlds and see the practices and SP and LP too that I have plenty of chances to see him be brilliant somewhere (though if I had to choose I want it to be the short because it's my favorite).
You know what, personally I think 4CC this season is more important than WC. Cause it's in the Olympic ice rink. That's why I am so stressed about 4CC. At this rate I don't think he will win 4CC. It's a tall order to skate well his LP especially when his rivals are more consistent than him at this point.
Even if by some miracle he does well the Lp then wins 4CC and wins even WC, I am still disappointed at what he did today. He has been given this same test over and over again to skate 2nd and he has failed it every time.

This is jump BV. Not total BV. This is where you get it wrong. There are spins level and steps level which in my opinion he excels at. He got high GOEs on jumps and steps and spins. I don't know why you are trying to make it complicated though

Here an easier one. Nathan's TES at US NATIONAL : 121 PCS : 91
Yuzuru's TES at GPF 15 with just 3 quads : 120 PCS : 98.5 (again this is just a 3-quad program). So, yes he still has a chance even when his rival is clean as long as he does too. It is just simple math.

It's not a perfect analysis, just a rough estimate, but jumps are where most of the points are.

If I may ask, why are we looking at past competitions scores? Nationals scores are overinflated to begin with and shouldn't be taken seriously and I love Yuzu as much as the next Yuzu fan but we don't expect him to hit close to his world record score every competition. We can only look at the competition as it is...

Yuzuru's TES at NHK : 118 PCS : 97
So, yes he still has a chance even when his rival is clean as long as he does too. It is just simple math. Yuzu's PB FS score with 3 quads : 219, Nathan's PB (nats) score with 5 quads: 212. It is not that complicated
There is one crucial issue, this season's scores should not be compared to last season's scores.
I highly doubt if Yuzuru skated Seimei on Sunday, clean and amazing etc, I doubt that he could still get 219 for that.

Assuming your projected PCS (assume he nails everything but it's not perfect)
Yuzu: 87.53 + 96 = 183.53
Shoma: 89.04 + 93 = 182.04
Nathan: 91.96 + 91 = 181.96
I don't know how to calculate GOE points...

Thank you so much, and yes, this is great. So Meoima is not that wrong. With SP scores it's

Nathan Shoma Yuzuru

285.08 vs 282.32 vs 280. 57

So yes, just by jump BV, it's going to be tough.

But there are, spins, steps, GOEs where he is currently receiving more (6.43 vs 6.22 vs 10.56 in the SP), and it's possible. It's close but it's possible. To do that, he has to go clean and he has to skate well. So math says, he can do this. Easier said than done of course.

His world record score is a 3-quad program. If you think Nationals score are overinflated, then it is less of an issue if Nathan is clean.
Why are we looking at past competition scores? Because it showed you something called scoring potential. And yes we don't expect him to hit close to WR score but why are people assuming the worst of him but the best when it come to his rival?
You were saying he has no chance to win if he skate clean + his rivals skate clean too and I simply give you the numbers which show you that it is not right. :confused2:

Can we please calm down with the negative nellying you're seriously bringing me down. He specifically said he felt confused in the warm-up because he just couldn't get his jumps. Confused. Like he couldn't understand why. He knows he has an issue with skating second, so if that was the issue here don't you think he'd have said Yeah I struggled because I had to skate second. Whatever the problem is I don't think any fan has any right to be disappointed in him or with him. He's skating for himself you know. Take a breath. What will be, will be.

So yes, just by jump BV, it's going to be tough as Nathan can pop in another quad.

But there are, spins, GOE where he is currently receiving more, and it's possible. It's close but it's possible. To do that, he has to go clean and he has to skate well. So math says, he can do this. Easier said than done of course.

That BV of Nathan is already a 5 quad program. He has lower BV than Yuzuru if he only did 4.

Yuzu is probably already upset, we don't need to add our disappointment to the invisible cloud hanging over his head. Sometimes I wonder if he was so bubbly and happy during practice to put the fans and media at ease...Like that will ever happen

Now I really just want Yuzu to get his stuff together so this anxiety will end :slink:

I might be negative but I do count. I hope I can be optimistic as some people here but math does not listen to my rule.

Could you make it sound a little more like he has personally failed you by not being perfect?

I give up :rolleye: I'm outta here.

I'm drunk and in a weird mood so weird post ahead:

Thank you so much for everyone who isn't going doom and gloom. I remember Interviews where he said he feels pressured because he wants to be perfect for his fans. And I felt "but I love you even if you mess up, how could I make you feel pressured? :(" And now it makes me really sad everytime I read comments from fans who prove him right. I get it comes from love and worry, but at the end it sounds like some people are only happy with him when he's perfect. And that is so sad. Because while Yuzu will very likely never read this thread, I think reading that would really make him sorry, and disappointed with himself and sorry to a point that isn't healty. It's fine to criticize, but if it's just negativity without any constructive aspect anymore... again, it just makes me sad.
I wish I could lift the pressure from him, but I can't. But Yuzu can still win this, he can make up the difference in GOE&PCS. To Shoma 100% (everyone who says elsewise, what?!), and yes, to Nathan too. I'm drunk at a paper Party, but I didn't study math related stuff for nothing. Anyway, it's not the main point. Let's go from "he has to fulfill my expectations and win everything!" back to appreciate him, okay? There are enough haters out there for the negative stuff.

And with that, I will go back to cells, tumors and being drunk. Sorry for the rant :slink:

I don't think Nathan will lose if he skates clean. Usually you don't lose if you have the highest BV, you skated clean, you lead after the short, you skated last, and you're backed by USFSA.

I think it is okay for you to think he won't win 4CC, just what you said didn't support you. It is critical but there's still window.

And for the importance, do you attend any simulation test in your life? I don't think it is that important , just a simulation. All other simulation test in PY's tickets are even free. This one is not free only because of Yuzuru. If Yuzuru doesn't attend, this competition would be like others, yes, free. (as last year in taiwan)

And also about the training method, I think maybe it is because of the fans there, actually the fans there in Asia is with more quantity and with more enthusiasm than in other competition. And also the tickets are cheap and the trip is cheap and affordable. I think he may have been affected a little bit by that and became more relaxed in his training. Also I felt he is in good shape recently and that's why he got a little bit relaxed than usual.

the last not the least, I don't think his SP is disaster, I watched over and over, and the 4 loop and 3A is really good fight considering his 6 min warmup. And the 4S+3T, it is tricky, but he already succeed this in previous 2 SP, I give it credit.

LP is tough, but no matter what the result is , he will never give up, why you give up here?

It's not about being optimistic but I don't see why people are disregarding his chances even before he skate. People always assume the worst of him and the best when it comes to other skaters and frankly speaking it is a bit sad.
I think anything can happen on the ice, and if in a scenario where everybody skate clean, I would say he still has a chance. Heck, he doubled a salchow and they still gave him 97 points with only a 6 pts gap means they want to give him a chance in case he skate clean. Does that mean that he will skate clean? That his rivals will?
Who knows really. Ice is slippery.

Good heavens, it's hard to be a new Yuzuru fan. Between this thread and the Yuzu tag on tumblr, I don't know where to turn to without seeing doom and gloom all over the place. Is this how it is every single time?
