Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Good heavens, it's hard to be a new Yuzuru fan. Between this thread and the Yuzu tag on tumblr, I don't know where to turn to without seeing doom and gloom all over the place. Is this how it is every single time?

I'm not even touching tumblr. Not going there at all.

Yuzu is probably already upset, we don't need to add our disappointment to the invisible cloud hanging over his head. Sometimes I wonder if he was so bubbly and happy during practice to put the fans and media at ease...Like that will ever happen

Now I really just want Yuzu to get his stuff together so this anxiety will end

He needs to be in his own Pooh-filled bubble of serenity, free from fans, the burden of expectations of others and his own. He needs to just HAVE FUN skating, to put regain that feeling of satisfaction that isn't tied up with score or medals or titles. But that's the price you have to bear when you're the best skater in the world. Shoma and Nathan are fortunate in the sense that they don't have to shoulder this kind of responsibility (at least not yet anyway)

I don't get it. It is not a short program that will have him lost the whole game (if a 90 I would say game over but a 97 it is not over at all), and he still has his FS on his back.

And this is simply a test-event for Olympics. To be honest I don't really care if he gets this additional crown or simply gain more experience in this test-evet. For me only OLYMPICS matters, and 17'GPF goes second.

Of course I am the "I want him to win everything" person, but I can accept whatever he brings and I have confidence for him, and for me he is always surprisingly better than all my imagination.

Figure skating is a fickle sport. You make one mistake and all of a sudden you're old news and Skater X is the new king (until they make a mistake of course)

That BV of Nathan is already a 5 quad program. He has lower BV than Yuzuru if he only did 4.

I will be happy if he fights for it and tries the current best he can do. Win or not, can we ask for more?

It will be a good lesson even if he loses. He can't afford to mess up the SP, times have changed. Chasing in the FS is risky. He will have one more experience to build on and that's that.

Plus, he can still win. He's Yuzuru Hanyu, come on y'all

You know what, personally I think 4CC this season is more important than WC. Cause it's in the Olympic ice rink. That's why I am so stressed about 4CC. At this rate I don't think he will win 4CC. It's a tall order to skate well his LP especially when his rivals are more consistent than him at this point.
Even if by some miracle he does well the Lp then wins 4CC and wins even WC, I am still disappointed at what he did today. He has been given this same test over and over again to skate 2nd and he has failed it every time.

4CC doesn't not carry remotely the same amount of pressure and attention that the Olympics carries, regardless of if this is the Olympic ice rink. In a year's time all of these skaters could be in a completely different place physically and mentally, and there will be different levels of expectations that they'll all be feeling. It'd be nice to win 4CC, but I still can't take it nearly as seriously as a Worlds or even a GPF. Some of these guys will be doing the team competition too which could affect their mindset going into singles. Who knows, maybe the final podium here is snapshot of the future in a year, but I wouldn't consider it anything more than a coincidence if that was the case.

And we have to keep in mind, it is a rare thing for someone to repeat their Olympic gold. We should be glad he is around still skating and giving us wonderful programs even if 2018 doesn't turn out how we'd like.

I might be the only one here but I actually enjoy reading all the posts surrounding 4CC SP. I'm okay with different perspectives and I find the debate, putting emotions aside, quite......entertaining?

Thank you so much for everyone who isn't going doom and gloom. I remember Interviews where he said he feels pressured because he wants to be perfect for his fans. And I felt "but I love you even if you mess up, how could I make you feel pressured? " And now it makes me really sad everytime I read comments from fans who prove him right. I get it comes from love and worry, but at the end it sounds like some people are only happy with him when he's perfect. And that is so sad. Because while Yuzu will very likely never read this thread, I think reading that would really make him sorry, and disappointed with himself and sorry to a point that isn't healty. It's fine to criticize, but if it's just negativity without any constructive aspect anymore... again, it just makes me sad.
I wish I could lift the pressure from him, but I can't. But Yuzu can[\B] still win this, he can[\B] make up the difference in GOE&PCS. To Shoma 100% (everyone who says elsewise, what?!), and yes, to Nathan too. I'm drunk at a paper Party, but I didn't study math related stuff for nothing. Anyway, it's not the main point. Let's go from "he has to fulfill my expectations and win everything!" back to appreciate him, okay? There are enough haters out there for the negative stuff.

Of course i will love him no matter what. My anxiety stems from the fact that i don't want to see him disappointed or upset. That's what i want him to win everything. I know he is human and can't be perfect every time, but i had high hopes considering how happy and calm he looked.

The tumblr tag (and his Facebook fan page) are filled with: oh he looked so different and stiff! Is he still sick? He got the flu like 2 months ago and obviously it's a terribly life-threatening disease that made him so thin and sickly and does he look alright to everyone? OMG he looks so sad, like he's gonna cry! Ad nauseum. I actually prefer it here, but by only a small margin.

You're not the only one. I think this discussion is pretty interesting as well. Maybe because I'm a pretty new fan so I don't have the same level of emotional bond compared to fans that have been following him for years?

In the end, only Yuzu can control what he does. If he can find satisfaction with his free skate, then that's the best possible outcome. Winning (or even medaling) is just icing on the cake.

Like he couldn't understand why. He knows he has an issue with skating second, so if that was the issue here don't you think he'd have said Yeah I struggled because I had to skate second. Maybe never. And that's just how it is.

We're fans and as fans, I think we have to believe in him. I don't mean blind belief that he'll surely win when it's a tight spot. But believe he is giving it his all and trying his best. Sometimes it just won't be good enough. That's just life. He has faults, some he may never be able to conquer (I dare not even think of mine and he's in a high pressure situation). Maybe this is his best now. And that's ok and it's enough.

I get that you're disappointed for him and frustrated and it's because we all know how good he is and we want the world to see it too but trust in him! Trust that he does the best he knows how. I really don't think it's fair to ask for more. We can't ask for more. Maybe this is his best now. And his best is always good enough.

Then I suggest not going to a competition thread, or at least get out right after the competition and before the bickering and conspiracy theories because of scoring starts. I love these tho, watching the drama unfold is in my veins of a FS fan.

The 4CC Men's SP thread this time seems rather calmer though, probably because the score was reasonable.

This thread, however, seems to be drowning in some unusual grey cloud though. What is this? Is this only the effect of a pop? Coupled with The Fear of the New Era Youngsters that somehow only now is weighting in? :dev3: I wonder how ya'll will survive next Olympics.

My problem is with watching anything live, but after it happens or before, which seems to be recurring problem here, I don't see the point at all. It's just suffering in advance.

Except that you don't know whether or not he actually made that mistake due to skating second and I will keep saying this until it's proven. I'm really not one for calling people out for how they support someone, but seriously....like seriously....come on. You don't care about WC??? Pretty sure Yuzuru cares. He won it once actually so he doesn't 'always' lose. You've made it very clear you aren't happy, I think we all got the message loud and clear. Now how about some support!
