Wow that's so sad. My condolences to Brian and his family. Recently someone who I was relatively close to passed away and it shocked me so it must be awful for them.

My condolence.

Sorry to learn the sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with Brian and his family.

And that's a lovely shot of Brian and his father. The latter in looks reminds me a wee bit of David Carmichael, the skating photographer.

In this old interview (also interesting and revealing reading), Brian describes his father as his inspiration. I see they share similar traits. https://www.thestar.com/sports/2007/03/19/life_of_brians_just_fine_thanks.html

you may want to watch these clips, expecially from 7:00 : Yuzu is training his 4T.

Thanks for these! I love his interaction with Abe. The question is answered for me lol. He doesn't get his quads just from the strange things he attempts in jump practice by himself.

Aww he is still so cute and smol in those videos. Oda must have misremembered then in this clip: http://dai.ly/x2asyc0. Oda's story starts at 4:23. He says around when Yuzu was 15, he praised Yuzu's pretty 4T in practice to which Yuzu replied "kyou hajimete chousen shita". Literally means "I tried it today for the first time".

It's also possible that he had very lucky first attempts and couldn't do it after. Landing a jump once doesn't mean you'll consistently land it going forward.

Edit: My condolences to Brian as well.

Hello :D I'm posting from my phone so no fancy link haha.
I spent like four hours doing this... SEIMEI nails!
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C6NH8qIU8AAT97j.jpg
I even put the star he has on his back (that was the most difficult part)
I'm really happy with how it turned out :D And constructive critique very welcome :)

Nice work!! I would love to do my nails more but they chip after like...a day. :ohwell:

 I can never do my right (dominant) hand well, and I can never do the coats evenly so I avoid the lighter colors
also now I know he has a star on the back of his costume.... :slink:

The details of the sleeve are a bit off but on my right hand, since I painted those directly into the nail D; the pics show my left hand because I was holding my point with the right hand 😂 I found out about the star recently! It's Seimei's pentagram, the ema at Seimei's shrine have that star on them :) and it looks cool so I put it :D

I've been reading lots of comments lately as the yuzu fan fest moves really fast :thank:, I saw the list for yuzu videos translations request, so I thought I could help even if it's just a little, this is the first time I do any kind of translations so I would appreciate if you can see mistakes, let me now so I can fix them

SP Worlds 2015 Spanish commentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cmUP8dKKv8&feature=youtu.be

I think the female commentator is Paloma and the male commentator is Javier Raya? (not sure)

FC: Grand Prix champion, Olympic champion, world champion, from January until now, he's had a somewhat delicate health path, and it's been said that he's foot is injured, we'll see..
MC: Many japanese (fans)
FC: Yes, of course, the closeness... (between Japan and China)
MC: It's full
FC: He's here, training with Brian Orser, 20 years old, defends the title
MC: First jump, 4toe, the two jumps he has left on the second half of the program, 3axel, the combination 3lutz-3toe
FC: great!, ahh, it's a pleasure, how he skates
FC: what a spin combination!, what a spin...
MC: and what a program!
FC: Even though he failed...he failed the 4toe, the landing of the 4toe but he skates so softly, so beautiful, the axel was textbook
MC: the axel, the triple-triple, the two jumps in the second half of the program count more (higher score)...
FC: look! that's incredible
MC: OMG!
FC: Bring the zamboni and pick them all! (talking about all the poohs and flowers on the ice)
FC: Look the 4toe
MC: the quad a little low, it lacks height and... but everything else was perfect
FC: what blades he has (is using), right?
MC: Yes, those (blades) are lighter, and he himself is very light...
FC: (he's) like a feather...
MC: so he flies
FC: look at Kobayashi, the president of the Federation behind Orser (she thought Mr. Kikuchi was the president of JSF)
MC: the doughnut (spin), we also don't see this (spin) normally with the boys
FC: you can see how he secures the axis when he's about to do the second jump after the 3lutz (in the combination jump)
MC: and this variation (spin) as well...
FC: he reminds me of Stéphane Lambiel, the swiss doing spins are magnificent and suddenly it appears and unusual person (she uses the term "rara avis" which can also mean exceptional, uncommon) like this man doing this...
(he is doing that pose like saying) here I am! (she's referring to yuzu's final pose)
great! that was great! now to adjust, to surpass... he's scored 94.08 before, to surpass Javier he needs 92.75, but they are always very equal, they know each other well, they have adjusted the scores at the beginning he had more than 50 points, now it isn't that much,
he's always joking (teasing?) with Brian Orser, they have built a really good human team
MC: he's sweating a lot!
FC: yes, because of the efforts, it's tremendous, and also in recent times, Brian has been coaching him in long-distance because he's (yuzu) been in Japan, first because of his stomach problem and then it was because of his foot (injury), he prefered to stay in Japan and recover there, well, they're going to be very close, both javier and Yuzuru, he's (yuzu) going to first place, he obtains 95.20
MC: what a difficult situation!
FC: he goes into first place, what a difficult situation because he (Brian) has both (skaters first and second), but knowing that
both Yuzuru and Javier get along great, I believe that makes it easier for their coach
MC: if not, it would be difficult
FC: it would be a torment!, well, for the moment yuzuru hanyu is first, Javier Fernandez is second, depending on what Kovtun will do...

LP Worlds 2015 Spanish commentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C80Yct7Te70&feature=youtu.be

FC: there, he is, the Phantom of the Opera, this boy, 20 years old, gets into this program in a masterfully way, he lives it, he interprets it, he dances to it, he does everything, he has 2 quadruples, one 4salchow at the start, followed by a 4toe coached by Brian Orser, we'll see, the training (practice session) he did this morning was fabulous it begins the final match between yuzuru and javier
MC: first jump of the program, 4salchow, he doubled it
MC: 4toe, has fallen,
MC: 3flip, 3lutz-2toe, 3axel-3toe, 3axel-half loop-3salchow, he always lands these jumps, 3loop
FC: now he is in tune? (maybe more connected?)
MC: with more decision (determination) ... 3lutz
FC: ina bauer, choreographic part
FC: well, look at the technical score, there are 8 points difference (with the leader), it still needs to include the score for the last combination spin, he's exhausted, two of the strongest cards, the two quads at the start, the 4salchow and the 4toe, the first he doubled it, the second... (the recording skips)
FC: yuzuru has done everything he could, it's true that he isn't in his best moment, like we have seen him in other occasions...
MC: he fell on his heel in the 4toe, honestly these two big mistakes he had are the elements? for Spain to get closer to the gold, we still have to wait...
FC: exactly, this morning we were asked in Twitter, the only possibility (to win gold) is that yuzuru had some problem (executing his program) and that Javier does everything well, for the moment, the first phase has already been completed, unfortunately, because
I don't like when the skaters fail, I don't like when the athletes fail, but win by own merit, not by the demerit of others, still you must take advantage of the circumstances of course, and yuzuru today, had 2 mistakes, a fall in a very important moment...
MC: it's a pity that athletes fail when they've been taking everything out in training but that's how the competition is,
FC: well evidently look at the scores in choreography 9.06, the scores for skating, transitions, interpretation, are close to 9, it doesn't surpass, but not doing the first quad and the fall in the second quad are going to deduct a number of points that he need it, and now Javier can take advantage of this, now he (javier) has to go out and do his program and land his 3 quads.
FC: The interpretation is spectacular, this phantom of the opera.
His best score was 194 that he obtained in the GPF in Barcelona, and there you have Denis, Misha, Nam, the three are right now in the first places, let's see where yuzuru hanyu will go, he will place first, he had the advantage, he had 10 points difference over denis ten, he will need 172 to go into the first place, I doubt he will lose that first place but it doesn't depend on him to win the title, it will also depend on what javier will do next...
175 in technical score, 88 in presentation (pcs), he agrees with that score, he is the first to be aware of the situation, and it's true that things are more complicated for him because if javier delivers a good program, he will be ahead as the difference between them is very small he has given a lot of room with this program...
look, look how he (yuzu) cheers (for javi), a really nice gesture from yuzuru cheering for javier

-----
again if you see mistakes please let me know :)

Wow these translations are awesome, thank you so much !

I think the french ESP commentary of 4CC has not be translated yet, but honestly it was so lukewarm toward Yuzuru that I don't have the heart to translate it... But if any of you is curious about it, I can do it.

On a completely different subject, I was watching this funny japanese TV program with Dai, Kanako, Nobu and Mai Asada (https://youtu.be/i4CS-wUD8y0 and https://youtu.be/sV81NN6rhWc), and I was thinking how great it would be to see Yuzu's super competitive tendencies in such a context :laugh2:. I'm sure it would be awesome.

There is this japanese website which references all (most ?) videos about Yuzu ? I don't have the link here since I'm at work (and shouldn't be chatting on forums, but, well ^^), but I'll give you the link tonight if it hasn't been done before :)

And yeah, french esp is meh... Well, Nathalie is an ice dancer and it shows in her commentary, she loves the "dancing" part of the sport before anything else, hence her love for Shoma (whom I love too btw) and her reflexions about Yuzu's arms and lack of pointed toes... *sigh*. I think they don't get at all the difficulty of what Yuzuru is doing and what makes him so different from his competitors. Anyway.
In the other hand, France television commentators Montfort/Dumont/candeloro are, well, big chatterboxes - sometimes you can't even hear the music because they just talk all.the.f...ing.time ! - But at least they're real enthusiasts (a bit too much at times ), and overall very warm. I like them so much more (except when they're crossing the line when commenting on ladies, but, well, I guess it's a good thing Ladies is not my favourite part of figure skating at the moment) ! I think Nelson Montfort really loves Yuzuru, as a skater but also as a person. He always says nice things such as how nice, endearing, polite, cheerful and gentleman-like Yuzu is.

(The funny thing is Nelson Montfort has been commenting Figure Skating on french TV since, well, forever ! I remember watching figure skating when I was a kid in the 80ies (!) and it was already him commenting :) )

I'm 100% agree with you about Nathalie and I really love Shoma too seeing him live really helped me to like him .
About our France tv trio , they just never stop talking so I can understand you (for the ladies part its mostly Candeloro that is sometimes...uhm...) [emoji23]
Regarding Nelson , I know him personally and he really like Yuzu as a skater and human being .I'm a 99' born so it's seems like I heard him all my life on tv [emoji28]
P.s: One day we need to tell him the difference between "Ina Bauer" and "eagle" Lol
