It's by far the most exciting thing to be staying up at around 5 in the morning to watch some Autumn Classic. :)
Yes, it is! This is the life of Yuzu fan. How can I forget the moment he took off his jacket at Autumn Classic! A sleepless night is a small price for it [emoji23]
I have fun imagining the unveiling of Yuzu's costumes as a global event. Everywhere around the world, collective gasps and squeals and o.O|| time synced to the moment he takes off his jacket, etc.
It is already a global event...in this thread.

Or go to bed at 8pm to wake up at 3 :D

Lol it was a 10 hour long test  i don't know how i did it, the power of Hanyu i guess

:otopic: but a 10 HOUR TEST?!. What were they testing?

Also, sorry for not contributing to the post count. These last few days I've been competing at the Big Bang Competition finals with my team and it's just been crazy.

ETA: lol just realised you half answered my question already in earlier posts sorry

Yuzuru had his first junior season very terrible. But the season he turned 15, he won everything in junior circle. Of course the tech that day was weaker than the tech this day. But Yuzuru also had to competed against skaters quite older than him. That's quite impressive considering he was just 15 that time.

Anyway, I am glad Yuzuru does have 4lz in practice. He really really needs it next season.

Agreed. The flow especially, like water. It's innate too because according to him, he spent 45 out of 60 minutes each day on the 3A in middle school. And by the time he was in junior circuit, he was only able to book an hour of ice time each day, so most of that also had to go to jump training. Both he and Brian mentioned how, before he went to Canada and started training skating skills in earnest, how he skated was all random and depended on his mood that day. Kid has been a natural since day one. =o=

it's not JWC, but "Yuzuru Hanyu has a Quad" thread after JWC with some very nice comments.

It's so interesting for me to read old threads/watch old videos and take in all the comments from forum fans, skaters, coaches and sports commentators about what made Yuzu special during his teen years. Grace and ease of movement on the ice, speed, good spins, good skating skills, beautiful jumps from nowhere, the combination of artistry and technical elements, amazing knees and elasticity, catlike ability to be totally relaxed one moment and explode with energy the next (my fave comment from Franca Bianconi, an Italian FS coach)...there is praise for his completeness and overall quality not just his jumps.

Contrast that to now where everyone is talking about quads. The strategy of the youngsters is to outjump Yuzu. It's an effective strategy but a short sighted one IMO. It works because of the gap in BV while Yuzu has no 4Lz. He added 4Lo this year because of Boyang, not because of Nathan. Next season, I think he will add 4Lz and/or 4Lo3T because of Nathan. I am not a skater but Kurt's comments below (from GPF 2014 so a while ago) and Meoima's comments about how his jumps takes 50% energy vs. everyone else make me believe Yuzu's jump technique is very special and can't be matched in terms of quality. If Yuzu closes that gap in BV, he won't be outjumped, especially when his 2 3As done in the second half get the same score as quads.

Thanks for the link :) Here's a transcribed version of their podcast regarding yuzuru

PJ :Tell me about Yuzuru Hanyu’s feet.

Kurt :I don’t understand Yuzu’s feet. Patrick Chan, from Canada, I can get Patrick, I get his power and I can understand... sometimes he gets power from moves that I am amazed at, but I can understand it, because I can SEE IT HAPPENING. And truly Christopher Dean, there are very few skaters I would compare to Patrick Chan, very few.
But Yuzuru Hanyu is in his own tiny little way, special as well, in that he gets power and speed, .. power... and you know what? I wouldn’t use “power”, he’s just fleet of foot. Scott Hamilton always skitters like a waterbug across the ice. But you could see it happening. I don’t know how Yuzu does it. He has this way of just gaining speed and momentum and power but he’s special. He’s just very special.

Someone said today “custom-built for jumping”. Some thing today in his programs, i was just.. it was kind of like I saw jumping for the first time again. And I got all fan-like on the air, and I got all crazy, because the take-off, the flow through the air, the rotation, and then the landing, are like an artist.

PJ :I love his landing edge, I just love his posture, I love the way that back outside edge flows,

Kurt :Not too sharp a corner, it’s on a big radius,( hello everyone in Japan) which is on a big circle, and he somehow can do all of that with low shoulders, long neck (he has a naturally long neck anyways) but low shoulders and no upper body stress whatsoever.
The right shoulder stops the rotation, essentially, when you jump the way he jumps, in that direction. The right shoulder is in charge of stopping things... But the right shoulder is just.. there. There’s no effort. It’s a level of jumping skill, that Baryshnikov, in ballet everyone went “When Barysh jumps, its JUST DIFFERENT”. And when Yuzu jumps IT”S JUST DIFFERENT.

To Alia Jackson, Yuzu is going to World's ready to kick butt and take no prisoners. Look at his game time face after he heard Boyang's SP score at NHK 2015. He wants his title back from Javi. He just lost 4CC to Nathan. Dragon Yuzu will be making an appearance and he seems to like the ice in Helsinki. He's only won gold there (Finlandia 2012 and 2013) and conditions are good for the streak to continue.

OK, I'm taking a break from 2012-2013 - so Skate Canada 2013 for a change. Would have preferred TEB, but I failed to find a video...

… Hanyu who became the Bronze medallist a couple of years ago at the age of only 17. He’s getting ready – he’s all turned inwards now. He’ll skate to Parisian Walkways by Gary Moore.
He made it happen! 4T.
Wow, what a 3A!
Oh no! No, no, just one mistake and the program is down the drain. Yuzuru jumped only a single lutz with a triple toeloop instead of 3-3.
But the way he plays with the judges and the public!
What a program Yuzuru Hanyu has! Just one mistake – where did it come from? It blemished the skate! Yuzuru Hanyu was doing everything so cleanly and so powerfully! He landed 4T! He didn’t touch the ice with his hand. He managed to keep his balance. But something went wrong with the combination, so Yuzuru Hanyu won’t get less than Patrick Chan. But he’ll be in the upper echelon – there are only 10 competitors. By the way, Canada is a second home for Hanyu because he started to train with Brian Orser and moved to Canada. Brian Orser, twice a medallist in the Olympic Games of the 1980s, led Yuna Kim from Korea to the Olympic Gold and now he’s working hard with this boy who’s only 18 yet. He’ll be 19 at the Olympics in Sochi. Just as Yuna Kim became Olympic Champion while very young, he’s also putting his money on this guy. He’s explaining something now… there must have been a mistake at the take off. That’s a shame! Such a good program, but he’s clearly upset. His coach is trying to cheer him up. But let’s point out that his little details, elements, transitions are wonderful: straightening his belt or smiling or flirting with the judges – he did those little things just to emphasise his choreography. He’s one of the best skaters artistically! But now he’s sitting with his head down, very disappointed with himself. What a beautiful 3A. And here he jumped a single for some reason. One rotation instead of three. But he didn’t give up right until the end. Beautiful spins and step sequence. He gets level 4 for every element. That only mistake in the combination…

I love your avatar  he kinda looks like a hot vampire.... :dev3:

aww, I'm glad you like it

not gonna lie, I watched JrWorlds to find the second coming of Yuzuru (lmao :laugh2: )

AKA the reason why i'm here lol. He does it better now :D
Thanks for the translation!!

You know about CENEVAL? The one i had to do is this one, the school doesn't matter because you have to take it regardless of school lol.
Hm, you might be able to put all your feelings in the guitar lesson with the Yuzu high :D
Well, what do you know, we're the same major! Looks like I dodged a bullet, right there hahaha. It comes at the expense of no decent Mexican food for months, though...
Well, last time I tried putting the Yuzu high into guitar I ended up trying to arrange H&L for classical guitar. I didn't finish, I just ended up watching Yuzuru skate over and over again...

Are you me, i did the same thing and with the exact same result
And lol, you're the second person i find in this thread that went for the same path as me...

It's by far the most exciting thing to be staying up at around 5 in the morning to watch some Autumn Classic. :)

It's my second season as full time FS fan and there is no time I can say I never stayed to watch FS. During Boston World I was watching since late afternoon till very early morning, then sleeps 3 or 4 hours. I was like a depressed zombie for the next week...

Or go to bed at 8pm to wake up at 3 :D

I usually don't sleep in nights when competitions are around 3 am for me, because I would not wake up on time :p

well, I'd hate to have missed on that unforgettable moment of seeing Yuzu in white pants. I was rolling around the room with laughter at 4 something a.m. It was absolutely worth the wait and the sleepy groggy day with no sleep at all!

I had a heart attack when I saw him, but after his skate I decided I love it, and I miss his white costume since he changed it...

aww, I'm glad you like it

I started to watch juniors during las year JW for the same reason, but it can be heartbreaking, just look what happend to Sota and Daniel Samohin :(

So I am not alone :slink:
Well, now I greatly regret not following FS for many years since I was a kid. I returned thanks to Sochi team event :). So I am watching juniors now just because I don't want to miss anything again.

Seriously? Wow! Maybe I should give it another shot. The problem is once I get to the Asian Dream Song part, not sure it works well with classical. Hmm. Oh, to hell with it, I'll try again, the Segovia piece I'm supposed to be practicing can wait...

I love Jun, Roman and Aliev this season, I hope those three will do well in Senior, just becous I can't handle the heartbreak :(

I want to see this smile again

right? I first discovered Hanyu during Sochi but I never pay attantion to figure skating, I'm so regretful right now

I want to learn View of Silence from H&L on piano now because I have watched that program so many times that this is the natural order of things.

I'a a fan of Jun and Aliev too, I really like japanese boys too. But lately I read that only 6 junior world champions became senior world champion, so who knows, and with all those quads it's more and more difficult.

Since we had vincent's 4Lz from the same angle as yuzu's i felt like giffing them: vincent, yuzu
Sigh, his jumps are just amazing. But reminds me of that one episode of TSL when jenny was still on and she talked about how yuzuru goes into the lutz too relaxed sometimes  Just something to worry about in the future, since I refuse to worry about Worlds :scard8:

Is it wrong if he's too relaxed?
In contrast, I dislike when people do lutz so brute like I said before on this thread. Like Yuzu said, it disturbs the flow the the program.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by brute? I don't like telegraphing. Like Pogo is notorious for telegraphing her lutz. I don't even know her layout but I can see it coming a mile away.
