2016-2017 State of Canadian Figure Skating

Yeah Eric is dealing with an injury. We will see what happens. He is obviously cleared to compete because they arrived in Helsinki. It will be interesting to see if they keep the 3Lutz or try another SBS jump. IMO if they want to win they have to do the lutz, they need all the points they can get. I'm so excited for the every other Canadian skater at this competition except Kevin Reynolds. Honestly I have never been a fan of his skating.. I just cant get into him at all. Canada has so many chances at a medal and multiple medals I might add in certain disciplines. Going to be very interesting to see where everyone stands at the end. I REALLY hope Canada qualifies 3 women for next years olympics.

It is really too bad about Eric. I was at the Pairs practice yesterday and knew something was wrong, even before I read about his injury.

Eric's hip is still sore so they've replaced the 3Lz with a 3T, according to CBC's Brenda Irving.

gosh... i hope meagan is okay with that... they had replaced the 3t in the LP because of her foot.... but good idea for now to try to at least not get down too far back in the SP... clean 3ts =better than falls on 3lz... i guess the set up couldn't work for their gorgeous 3s?

I just saw their SP run through in the pairs practice that was posted by the ISU. The 3Ts looked fine.

Now I'm wondering, what are Seguin/Bilodeau's planned SBS? Better not be that darn 3Lo!!

Nvm I watched their practice too and its SBS 3S.

well our two canadian ladies were better than clean, they had high quality short programs and both win a small medal with kaetlyn in second and gabby in third.

It is looking good for the free skate. Let's wish them both to do as well then! They deserve it for their constant commitment and dedication in bettering themselves.

Gabby is like a PR machine. She's giving such cultured responses to the press conference questions.

The CAN ladies look to be in good shape. The LP will be a challenge, but there aren't a lot of great LP skaters in this event anyway. Even if they get passed by Anna, Ashley, Maria, and Carolina, the Canadians will still retain 3 spots.

Kaetlyn usually has issues in the FS but it's not always the case that she falls 3 times as she did at 4CC. If she even has a performance close to what she did at GPF then she has a good chance of holding onto a podium spot. Gabby...a week ago I saw her SP and this one was even better. I think she's changed a few things in her FS. Like a new sequence (I think it was 3S-2A SEQ). So maybe things will go better for her. I honestly think she would've done better at 4CC as well had she not popped the 3Lo. But we'll see about stamina and mental situations. Skating last is stressful but they're in positions of honour so I hope they manage it well.

I don't see Gabby as a SP skater... often she would mess up the lutz combo and come back strong in the FP, which is why we were rooting for her to ditch it and do the 3t-3t ;)

I think both girls having had experience with 4CC's medal contentions will help here. I think Anna is very close but it's still not done.

The skate order will be very advantageous for the PCS they will earn, so if they can hold it together they will be tough for most to pass, especially Kaetlyn with her current margin over the others.

Congrats to Kaetlyn and Gabby. Wouldn't it be something if they both hung on for the podium?

Canadians could medal in all four disciplines.

Wow--they really brought it today. So refreshing to see huge jumps, great flow and expression. Hope they skate their best on Friday.

Man, it has been nearly a decade since the last time a lady medalled. The LP could get every interesting.

When's the last time Canada had 3 spots? It looks like its gonna happen this year.

i don't remember when was the last time the ladies had 3 spots honestly....

it looks good for that to happen.

I am very sad that Eric's injury is preventing him not only to jump but also to spin... it was heartbreaking to see their trademark spins derailed from the injury...

BUT really, what really made me upset was in the thread, some posters aren't sympathetic at all... I think i am too sensitive for this forum.
