2017 Worlds Pairs SP

For fun, 2018 Olympic and Worlds spots if the SP standings were the final standings:

3 spots

China (1 + 4 = 5)
Russia (3 + 5 = 8)
Canada (6 + 7 = 13)

2 spots

Germany (2 + 18 = 20)
USA (8 + 18 = 26)
Italy (9 + 11 = 20)
France (10 + 18 = 28)

Olympic Spots (16 determined here out of 20 total, remaining 4 at Nebelhorn)

(1) China
(2) China
(3) China
(4) Russia
(5) Russia
(6) Russia
(7) Canada
(8) Canada
(9) Canada
(10) Germany
(11) Germany
(12) USA
(13) USA
(14) Italy
(15) Italy
(16) France
___________
(17) France?

Technically there's only 16 quota spots from Worlds and there's no clear detail on what happens if the spots based on Multiple Spot Allotment exceeds 16. Either France, as the last country right now, would only get one spot (which seems dumb) or only 3 spots would be available at Nebelhorn (which also seems dumb).

Correction: teams 16 and below all get 16 points.

So it seems like Sui/Han, Aliona/Bruno and Evgenia/Vlad will fight for the medals and gold. But other are not compelety behind, so a suprise might happen.

Otherwise, a great event! :clapper:

What a difference it makes being able to see this on my TV. Tomorrow I'll be able to watch the pairs FS again on TV!

I don't remember when we had such a phenomenal pairs SP. Heck, even overall, this was fantastic.

Really sorry for some good pairs that'll miss out even though they skated really well but that is how high quality this was. So happy I had the chance to see it.

Hang on. Just spotted something in the comments.

So Evgenia and Eric are injured. Didn't realise that.

That puts a different perspective on those last two performances.

Chris worked out that Eric was injured, but didn't with Evgenia.

3[SUP]rd[/SUP] and 7[SUP]th[/SUP] are pretty good then.

They both got injured in practice this morning. She even got stitches.

Jesus I would never thought that I could be this excited for pairs! What a stellar cast!!!

Ranking seems good to me. Yes, we could argue about Stolbova/Klimov's PCS, but I wasn't really able to fully watch their performance so I can't participate in that discussion. Just hope that they'll do better in the free.
Pairs is really great at the moment!

Oh great. My tacky guilty pleasure pleasure team is in 7th and apparently Michelle Kwan is getting a divorce.

But at least Duskova & Bidar and Windsor & Alexandrovskaya qualified for the free (over the second American team... :slink:)! The USFS did right sending the Knierims here.

Woo!

Wow ... really? My sympathies to her.:ghug:

While I'm glad that Tarasova managed to skate through the SP, I cannot imagine what hellish pain she'll be in tomorrow, and having to skate a more difficult LP to boot

Its so bad the Japanese team won't qualify because of S/k who don't even want to be there and want to retire and even when they withdraw they wouldn't get to skate the fs! So unfair.

I know I shouldn't feed the troll but I have to ask...what evidence to support your claim that they don't want to be there exists? For a team that wants to retire they sure do put a lot of effort into getting interesting and challenging programs out there.

T/M fall about 3:18:40

Tarasova cut her leg and required 10 stitches

Kirsten Moore-Towers is probably at home in Canada screaming the same thing at her TV.

Well, I'm sure Julianne and Charlie are worried too!

Hopefully D/R and I/M have a strong FS... they can definitely beat Z/E, and pull a 4CC and beat Y/Z, which would give them some wiggle room on the 3 spots.

What did Meagan mean in the KnC, "we lost a whole element". Was she talking about the lutz?

she is not used to such a low score... i think it's the combination of lower BV on the 3T, the spins which is their trademark didn't score well and the throw as well..

so 1.5 points or so lost on each of these 3 is equal to a full element...
