Mmmm, not sure, I've never been to a country where I don't speak the language, so I'm not really sure what essential phrases are. But it might be good to learn basic Hangul (the writing system) so you can read signs. It's actually a really simple writing system, and depending on how good you are at memorizing it could be learned in an afternoon. Though of course you'd need practice to read it at a good speed. Other than that, you probably want to learn basic phrases such as "Thank you", "Do you speak English?", "Where is ___?" etc. If you have a list of simple phrases I could probably help you translate them, though there's probably also hundreds of online guides for tourists.

Something that he said that I loved is that he always tried to find something positive in the interviews even for skaters who had a bad performance. It reminded me of him telling Yuzuru he could still win this (Thanks for that, Charlie!).
Around 20:16, he said Yuzu's FS was his top moment of the event. He said he is just breathtaking, he makes everything seem easy and possible. The way about him is so inspiring he feels like he could run a marathon or land a 4S
He said the words to describe that FS were "ease and grace".
He said his ability to deal with the pressure and demand for excellence has improved as he's matured. He was very happy for him because he thinks that moment is going to stay with him for a long time, it was special. :yes:

And from this point of view it is quite unexpected and was one of the biggest surprise of the whole SP, that we’ll be watching Yuzuru Hanyu skating first, who messed up combination with quadruple salchow and fell to the 5th place. But he got two 10’s in PCS nevertheless. Now begins the real fight for medals. We can basically forget what we have seen until now, because now here we have the 6th from another planet (by “another planet” he meant this final group and made mistake saying Yuzu’s 6th and not 5th… or maybe he meant 6th because there are 6 skaters in this another-planet-group? Not sure…)

However I am afraid that this part is not true and the commentator is not really informed and knowledgeable about this. Boyang Jin was the first skater who landed 3 different type of quads in one skate (Lz, T, S). While Nathan Chen was the first who landed 4 (Lz, F, T, S). Noone yet landed 5 type though

Hmm, I actually disagree about the artistry. He was calm but it was very complete.
If people don't like him after this it can only be a matter of taste. There's simply nothing more he could do.
I hope I don't mindlessly praise him. I didn't care for H&L before and said so, but my mind is completely changed. If you're immune after THAT performance there's no hope.
I really have no patience for people who push for "masculine" skating. Well, everyone in the men's event is presenting masculine skating. Deal with it.
If people don't like him after this it can only be a matter of taste. There's simply nothing more he could do.

I really enjoyed Charlie White as commentator and interviewer at the WC. He's kind, knowledgeable, and can critique without being cruel. He should do this all the time.

And many of them still think stiff and rigid upper body is good. It is not dissappointing, it is more like they're not knowleageble enough. They do not get enough training and ISU's system let them off the hook.Some judges give stupid scores and do not follow ISU rulebook. So this is nothing new, really.

I think they're more like idiotic and did not know enough. If I remember correctly, sometimes ago Chinese and Taiwaness fans made fun of a Chinese (or Taiwaness) judge for some stupid comments they made, as if this judge had no basic understanding of skating at all. Soyes the commentators are idiotic, 100% agree

I don't want to say this but I think WTT is the most useless competition of the season. I don't get why they're so serious about it. They even force skaters to compete there. It's absolutely annoying. But oh well hopefully Yuzuru can turn this into a good experience.
I have been to South Korea a few times, I think those in big cities (Seoul, Busan, Daegu, this is the 3 cities I have been to) can fathom english quite well if you meant just for buying stuff; I barely speak even when making purchase etc. Just use credit card for everything and your life will be at peace because you basically can use them anywhere, even at small food stall. About taxi, they have quite advanced GPS system, as long as you type/write down the address in Korean you will be fine and well. Pyeongchang is different though, heard it is hard to get taxi there and they don't have uber service (there is a korean version of uber but I don't bother). But I went there a few times without learning or knowing a single korean (even until now I do not know a word, I am that bad) and I can get by just fine.
I think a lot of people would echo your sentiment actually; they send top skaters because it's held in Japan and ticket sales will for sure generate revenue when the big guns are participating.
