I think you're spot on about it. That program isn't about jumps falling into the highlight moments of the music, but I find myself sinking deeper and deeper (or the program taking over me bit by bit) (the turns fitting perfectly to the three chords into the 3F, the 4T in the silence between the two pieces of music, etc, etc, etc) into the "atmosphere" as the program goes on. *Shivers* The variations in interpretation is part of the interest too. I liked it when he projected determination, I liked it when he was more gentle. What doesn't change is the unending flow and continual push towards the end.

I think I saw someone, can't remember who, describe it as a "river" and I think it's a perfect description, because it's serene yet tumultuous at times, and flows continuously. Also, considering the costume, and the fact that Yuzuru used 'nature' to describe it in some interview.

Besides the moments you've mentioned, my favorites are:

His arms hitting the notes after the 3A-2T
How he goes into the flying camel is right with the music and he drops his leg after the donut position right at the note at 0:58, which was previously quite an awkward point in other programs but here they made it fit in brilliantly somehow. It's more evident in fancams that are far away.
When he extends his arm mid-sit spin.
When the choreo sequence starts.
The whole step sequence.
And many more.

I just love the face he makes after they asked him "We want to see your long limbs!" He doesn't seem to like that kind of attention at all hahaha (But then... Purple Pants of Sin...)

For me, the program can also be likened to the sea which also can be calm and stormy, which speaks of eternity like hope and legacy, and the colors of which are echoed in his costume.

Besides it being about Yuzuru's figure skating life (journey), what I like about "Hope and Legacy" is how I think it showcases the quality of generosity of Yuzuru's skating to the audience: libation (consistent with the water image and the liquidity of his movements) and oblation (ending pose of arms outstretched). For me, there is a defining (climactic) moment, and it is when he does the layback Ina Bauer punctuated by the opening of his closed fists to open palms, a position which is totally open and giving and yes, vulnerable. That moment recalls to me a constant refrain in commentaries of his performances throughout the years--of how he has given everything, laying everything on the line without reservation.

On another note, it seems Yuzuru inspires a lot of people to wax poetic about him and his skating. So many eloquent and thoughtful posts in this thread which I so enjoy reading as I do too the light-hearted banter. :agree2:

Adding a bit to the fs music talk.. I think the fact that Yuzu can make such subtle (yet beautiful) music work in his performance goes to say how amazing he is. Yes maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea, compared to SEIMEI which has the clear beats and it's more obvious (idk how to say it), but he still made it work with his performance. That said, the pieces still has the climax (or whatever you call it) moment which is utilized well in his choreo seq. I also like how each elements are placed throughout the whole program. I'd say it's a well-constructed program.

One more thing I have to say.. I think he hears the beats of the music so well. Like usually you'd expect a good musician to have such skill. And that's also why a lot of his moves are always done in sync with the music, or on beat, like if you watch a good dancing. For that reason I think he's such a true artist. He's really sensitive too so that works really well.
That's also one thing that differentiates him with the others. It's a special trait.. his special trait I'd say.

I think I have watched all the other previously uploaded commentaries and the no commentary one at least five times each. : I hope Nordesque can provide English translations of the Norwegian and Swedish commentaries, and Ana (whateverhime) do once more a video of best commentaries of Yuzuru's Worlds 2017 FP.

I hope she is at major comps from now on too. Judging from that interview with Scott, she liked the experience. Brian said 5 coaches from TCC were there at worlds... hope they can keep doing that. That is better for both the skaters and Brian, who cannot be everywhere at once.

Speaking of coaching, we all know about Boston and how Brian had to help Javi, and he didnt know about Yuz's anxiety before skating and then people pointed fingers. This year, Brian mentioned that he did not know how spooked Javi was feeling backstage, listening to all the high marks and he said he wished he had known. Since yuzu was done skating first, there was lots of time for the coaches to be with Javi before he skated. Javi is much better at communicating, yet did not tell them what was bothering him. So, my conclusion is that sometimes even a coach being available will not help unless they know there is an issue... so communication is absolutely key. You can read a lot from body language, but if that told people everything none of us would speak. I am just glad they are trying to address everything for the next time.

Hahaha I know right? I remembered a long debate about the ridiculous rule here after both Yuzu and Patrick Zayaked. Luckily ISU caught up on it fast and change it soon. My bet is because both JSF and Skate Canada must have been working on it quite rigorously
