The issue though with mental blocks are that they are simply so. hard. to. deal. with.

I mean telling someone to focus on one-element-at-a-time or on enjoying-the-skate are good and valid methods. Problem is though it is like asking someone not to think of a pink elephant. Your mind will literally do what it is told not to. Maybe be should try to embrace it to 110%, embrace the horrible feeling of intense pressure - and accept it, instead of trying to control it (if that is what he is doing). Find ways of dealing with it yes, and other things to focus on but do accept it. Thing is with Yuzuru I do think this is what he generally does, he doesn't hide away from the pressure (and he adds a ton of it himself) and through Tracy's support and Brian's "trust your training" he builds up his self-confidence to perform when he needs to. Glad to read he sounds more upbeat in his latter comments :)

Mental pressure is so hard

I just woke up and saw the results, welp. TBH I'm not sad or anything but I do worry about his mental state regarding short programs, I hope he can work on that so it's not a mental block or something next season. I know it's hard and not really fun of a competition for him but it's the last FS of the season and he has already given us a performance for the ages, I hope he can enjoy himself the most he can.

Waa this thread has exploded with so many positive messages and such. It's so delightful to read ^^~

I didn't really care about the results that much - well I don't really care bout them overall. But watching the program made me a bit sad - maybe it was because i watched in low quality but he looked as if enormous weight was on his shoulders and that made me feel... not good... xP And then hiw apologetic he looked broke my heart a bit - I just wanted to hug him and tell him that he doesn't have anything he should apologize for.. ><

I had the same feeling ... He was way too serious from the beginning...
Well, that's what it is ... Hope he can talk with Brian on the phone ortherwise, Tracy can cheer him too and tomorow to have a performance with which he can be pleased ...
Somehow I feel like it wasn't pressure or anything related to skating...
I feel better because he seems determined to not let this affect him too much.
I just hope that he feels better soon, and I wish we could tell him that we're not disappointed, and that we don't care about the current result, we're just worried about him...

I remember when I saw him after the SP at Worlds, walking down the stairs, he looked tired and very frustrated, but then he had a one day off and came back stronger than ever before. He's capable of fighting back like no one other.
But it is just one competition, and not even an important one (I know to him everything is important, also since it is in Japan), plus it's the last one in the season, so he must be very tired.
Whatever it is, I wish him the very best for tomorrow and then I hope he can have a rest. I only wish him to be healthy and happy, everything else is secondary.

Anyway, this day is cursed. A year ago today, I predicted that a famous musician would die before my birthday. Next day the news came.
I'm sorry.

I managed to catch the livestream and it was nerve wracking and heartbreaking to watch his WTT SP, not because I was disappointed but because my precious boy Yuzu looked so tense and upset with himself. I just want to see this beautiful boy enjoy his skating. He is such an emotional skater that his emotions bleed into the energy of his performance, and his SP today looked so defeated and he didn't look like he enjoyed skating it at all. LGC is a program that really depends on fun and energy to sell the performance, so it felt like everything just went downhill after he popped the 4Lo ... and then it looked like a struggle to just finish the program...

Yuzu's already achieved so many incredible things and exceeded all expectations with his beautiful skating. He doesn't need to prove himself because he's already done it again and again for years. His fighting spirit, hard work and grace has already shown him to be one of the best skaters of his generation and he's already made history so many times with his amazing achievements. I just want him to skate the way he loves and to enjoy what he's doing. He's had a long and exhausting season so for a fun event like WTT, I just hope that he can relax and have some fun.

His tenacity and perfectionism is great motivation for him, but sometimes I do wonder if all the crazy expectations and pressures that are put on him will affect him mentally... Like, anyone with that much pressure on them will buckle if the pressure just keeps building and lasting for such a long time, and I think Yuzu's been having so much pressure on him for years (even though he's been dealing with it well so far).

I agree with all previous comments that he would probably benefit from someone who can counsel him on this. I just don't think it's healthy to live with such a constant huge amount of pressure...

I also agree that it's probably better to have a new SP for the Olympics. He seems to struggle with LGC and so with extra pressure (because it's the Olympics), perhaps it's better to start fresh and with a SP that showcases his strengths and the uniqueness of his style. LGC is a great program that is fun for performing (like maybe use it as an EX in the future?), but for the stress of competition I think something that is more comfortable for him may be better... (I mean, what's "comfortable" for Yuzu is already gonna be crazily difficult and beautiful anyway so yeah...)

Exactly. At least his WR wasn't broken by anyone at this crazy competition. Sorry, sorry Shoma, I cheer you as a Japanese, but...
I think they kinda expected Yuzu to beat that WR, at least at WTT. And, well, we saw what happened. Yuzu, just stop trying to be perfect! Be yourself!

I understand why he is worried about the SP. Four times this season he had to catch up after the SP (SC, 4CC, WC, WTT).

How do you predict such thungs? Did you know the name?:eeking:
I woke up with heavy snow today after the trees came to blossom because of spring. Now it is all covered with huge amounts of very wet snow. We have a lot of broken branches on the ground. What a drastic change!

I agree! :agree:

Like seriously, how many athletes are there who can break WR every year? Yuzu's been breaking WR after WR and he's been doing it for years. It's ridiculous to pile that sort of expectation and pressure on him just because he's a super awesome athlete. Yuzu is also human and he's not a machine. Even if he has his off days, true fans are still gonna love him regardless and haters are gonna hate.

To me, just seeing Yuzu skate is already a treat. I'll celebrate and be happy for him if he breaks WR and wins medals but even if he doesn't it's not gonna change my love for him. He's so beautiful on the ice I feel joy and blessed just to see it. His skating shows just what amazing things the human body can do. The only think I hope for is that he enjoys his skating (because I feel like he's really dedicated and he loves skating very much). I just wanna see him showcase his love for the ice. All he needs to do is get up there and skate the way he loves and I'll already feel happy watching it...

Oh, if I make you feel unpleasant by WR talk, I'm sorry. But I was just worried about others, not his score... WTT tends to inflate

I am sorry, I didn't mean this. I contributed a lot to this talk :(

Aww don't feel bad, we all know that you all meant it in a nice way...
because let's be honest, Yuzu's been breaking WR like a pro so of course it's bound to come up...

Maybe I'm being too negative, but I don't think he'll accept much comforting... Rather than hugs, I wish someone would - gently - hit him over the head and show him all of his epic programs - especially short - so he can get the "not good at short programs" out of his head. It'd definitely be better than letting him re-watch this short...

I also didn't really expect him to be relaxed... there was A LOT of pressure on him at this event - both his own and external - and maybe he was actually even a little bitter that everyone else could have fun - though that might be a little out of character.

I'm also not really comforted by his post skate interview... he always says things like that. Yes, last time he looked a bit more close to tears, but that was nowhere near as bad as this was.

He'll bounce back. Even if not tomorrow, he will, because he's bounced back from much worse things.

I don't know what to say about LGC... I love it, but it might be too frustrating for him... I also don't think he'll be able to enjoy it until he 'conquers' it. But if that doesn't happen in competition, that might be bittersweet as well. As in "why couldn't I do it when it mattered the most?!".

Err... I guess I'm very familiar with that kind of negative overthinking ^_^; But I think even with his weaknesses, Yuzu is mentally stronger than me, so I really hope he'll prove me wrong!

Sending lots of love, positive thoughts, funny smiling energy towards Yuzuru! You are not alone! We will be skating tomorrow with you! Anytime you feel like losing your power or focus - get ours! We are here to share our energy with you! Thank you for being such an inspiration! Go Yuzu! Fly! :ghug::ghug::ghug:
