Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Wow, I can't believe some people are trivializing Yuzuru's injury at Worlds last year. I just...can't. I know figure skating brings out strong emotions in people, but there should be limits, really.

Those same people probably would have internally rejoiced if it did indeed result in it being a career ending injury. It does your heart and mind no good to pay attention to garbage. I'd rather spend my time watching Yuzu :)

Liu Xinyu did a fan give away with 2 signed copies of the WTT program book. He tried getting all the skaters to sign it but he promises at the very least it'll definitely have Yuzu's (photo proof ) He's so sweet :luv17:

People are trivialising his injury? Where? It seems when any other skater is injured people are understanding but with Yuzu it's not the same. Sigh.

As for exhibitions...next season I'd love to see a more fun ex! Requiem and Notte really showed his development artistically and his maturity but I think both those things can be paired with something that draws on his youth and personality. Either a character skate or a good rock/pop song ala Vertigo/Hello I love you would be great :) esp if his SP goes down a more artful route next season (I loved LGC esp the stsq but since he mentioned maybe doing a sp that captures his best skating like Notte and PW I keep thinking of yuzu spirals and prettt transitions hahaha

just to add since that post got quoted...I don't hate evgenia I'm just not particularly interested in seeing posts about her programs or whatever here and I think fans cooing about her having a crush on yuzu is a touch exaggerated and bothersome. I'm sure she's a perfectly nice girl and I respect her as a skater. I'm not down for hating on a 17 year old girl.

Definitely going to agree with Hydroblade. Writing, or at least familiarizing yourself with the stroke order, is essential. If you don't use it, you lose it. I have a DS and had that app, but I haven't used it in a long time myself. And when I had it I wasn't very serious in my kanji study. But if you can't find your DS and have a smart phone or tablet there are kanji apps there where you can practice the stroke order with your stylus. I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mindtwisted.kanjistudy&hl=en

There's probably one like it for iOS too. Even better, the first 100 kanji are free so you can test out the app and see if you like it.

As for maintaining the language, my Japanese is always a lot better when I am there. I find myself thinking in it more. And when I'm drinking it flows even better. I recommend listening to music or looking at news clips or commercials a few times in a day. Maybe take up watching some j-dramas. And using the apps and programs gives you the exposure too.

I've said this before but I am so curious about his networth. How sweet can it be for the most popular MALE skater in this sport? I am really wondering if NBC will be able to tell us his yearly earnings like they did for Yuna Kim and Shaun White. She was at $8million/year before winning the Olys. And though Japan may pay more I had the impression that Yuna's richer than Mao.

Thanks for the recommendations! Now I'd like to find a stylus for my phone. I've been using it to study Japanese grammar and vocabulary. Don't know why it never occurred to me to use it for kanji writing practice like you guys suggested.

And curious as well re: Yuzu's net worth. Though something else I'm curious about is who manages his contracts for his endorsements and commercials. As I understand, he doesn't have an agency managing him right? So is he hiring some sort of contracts specialist to analyze his contracts for him, or is he doing everything himself? Wonder how it works.

Yeah, someone said that Yuzu did well in the SP so his injury must not have been that bothersome.

This is not only patently false but also incredibly disrespectful. You don't have to trivialize someone's career-threatening injuries to make a point.

I thought it was his mother the one who took care of those things :o

Well, if the hints pan out and Misha Ge is indeed choreographing his ex, it's likely to be a fun style.

I think the person Misha is working with at TCC is Elizabet but I would really love for Yuzu to have an Ex choreographed by Misha

I'm sure he has a lawyer (or maybe even a team of lawyers) specialisted in civil law/contractual law (I'm not sure how these called in Japanese law), without their specific knowledge and experience, his legal commitments would be way too difficult to handle. I'm also sure JSF hires lawyers specialised in Canadian civil law too when it comes to his contracts in Canada.

Is there any english translation of this interview?

Yes, by Rena Moriguchi in the facebook fangroup - since it's in the comment sections and hence not really easy to link (yet), I hope it's OK to copy-paste it here
(if not I'll edit my post)

Interviewer (I): That was a great performance.
Yuzuru (Y):Thank you.
I: It was your last performance of this season. What was in your mind?
Y: From before I stepped into the rink to the end, I was holding a lot of mixed feelings within.
I: It was a huge cheering at your encore.
Y: To be honest, I wasn't expecting such a huge cheer. I couldn't stop shouting till the end either.
I: How did you feel throughout WTT?
Y: I enjoyed myself a lot. I am glad that it was a great skating to conclude the season.
I: Could you please look back this season again?
Y: There were many tough moments at the beginning. Many things didn't go well. Sometimes I lost my confidence. However after all I have no injury, I am healthy and I can start the next season from a better place than the last year. So that was a quite achievement.
I: What helped you to overcome those hard times?
Y: Managing health and conditions was one thing of course. But more importantly, all support and voice from my team and my fans. They helped me to review and analyse my skate. I really appreciate that.
I: The next season, the important one will begin.
Y: Yes, but all the things I achieved and learnt from this reason is a gem, not just for the Olympics or my skating career but for my own life. I cherish that. And the next season, I am going to put my best effort to train day by day.
I: What would you expect for the next season?
Y: I want to focus on everything. Jumps of course, but also transition and all that. I want to perfect my skate and break my limit next year.
I: We are looking forward to your next season.
Y: Thank you very much.

Getting a bit off topic here again, but i figured you guys would understand.
This season started along with my last semester at uni, and helped me give my best up until the end.
I am giving a graduation speech in representation of my classmates at the ceremony and the theme i chose was:
Efforts will lie, but will never be in vain.

I think it's something we have to keep in mind now that we're going into the "real world", and his determination is incredibly inspiring, so i want to try and pass some of that to my classmates. (i won't, however, tell them who said that because i am sure they will groan and roll their eyes hahaha, because i can't shut up about him)
I am more eloquent in spanish than in english so hopefully i will do justice to the essence of that quote in my speech

Thanks for posting this Altie.

So good to hear that
-he's happy how he ended the season
-he's healthy
-he learnt a lot this season, not only about skating but his own life too
-he wants to 'break his limit'
:)
