Nathan will be under more pressure next year from the American hype machine. I don't think we're wise enough not to do to him what we did to Gracie Gold. On the other hand, he is a better competitor than she is. Still, he doesn't have the experience Yuzu does in handling pressure from country and fans. But yes, the Olympics are weird and you only have to hit once. Plus, we should probably assume Nathan's PCS will go up to 95 next year. His programs will be cleverly designed to camouflage his weaknesses. Marina Zoueva knows her stuff. And USFSA will go all out. So the difference decreases to five points.

Raising the average is precisely about not having the skate of his life but that still skating like that, 'averagely', is enough to get him to win. That even when he cannot execute a (near) perfect program, what he does present, is enough.

Talking about that is way more easier than actually doing it. He would have to balance the difficulty with what he can, realistically, present even when he is not peaking, with good enough quality. This part is pretty important, because this part would give him better consistency and would exert at least some influence on his GOEs, progressively so (so basically what Zhenya does).
Personally, I also believe the 4Lz is necessary (I am also one of those who doesn't believe a word coming out of his mouth when it comes to it) but this is the second part - how far does he go? For example, going for both a 4Lz and a 4Lz-3T in his free skate raises that bar significantly and I am sure we would all agree introducing both would push that idea of a stable average out the window. I am sure quite a few here would argue whether he should keep the now stable 4S-3T or push it to 4Lo-3T. So in that sense, he has to find a balance.

I was talking about this recently to a very smart friend of mine who had an excellent point. By keeping the SP layout that he has now he doesn't lose much, if anything and yet it provides a stability,and quality, that he is carrying over from this season. That combined with a 4 quad layout in the FS, with a 4Lz as an opening solo jump, and maybe 4Lo-3T, offers an increase in BV, the perception that he's advancing and leaves open the possibility of further shuffling if he must.

So in essence, he could have both these things you mention; an increase and consistency. I am really not surprised he's thinking broadly about all of this. I am sure he sees his GOEs, he sees all the problems and he sees how some of the 'solutions' may be contradictory to each other. But if he could combine them, then that's interesting. It really doesn't have to be either/or. It can be both, if he can find a way.

Not quite. It's more like: potential layouts ---> music choice ---> keep LGC!/burn LGC!:shock2: ---> I want Seimei back ---> just please no warhorse ---> I just want sparkly costumes ---> costumes? Like the PPos? ---> invisible discussion ---> WT-F is this thread? ---> potential looking back at the last season and dying over moments like this --> more hormones = more anxiety ---> OMG but what about his next seasons layouts? - rinse and repeat. You just have to hit the right moments to drop in here :biggrin:
 
I never speculate on layout . It hurts my head. I just want to know, 4lz or no 4lz... 3A last jump or not? That is enough for me.

As for costumes.... give me bling, but no more froth or tissue paper... I like sparkles!!!!!

Best wish... early showing of part of a program at a show!!!! Like with Seimei. That would keep us fed and watered all off season!!!

I was wondering about the Gala. I ran into this on Tumblr and well, it's hit or miss, so one of our Japanese speakers please - once he was done with the encore someone said that while he was sitting, he said this was the last time. Did he actually say that? Because if he did, we may have an indication that LGC is done (unless of course he spoke of the season but you know.... then we can argue about that).

I think i did hear that and i saw some people on twitter talking about the "Last prince". I'd have to check again...

But yes, if we see nothing on ice shows the thirst will be too much to handle

Had to do the great sacrifice of watching the encore again.
Ok, i checked and he says "Saigo made tanoshiindake" (i think that's how he ended the sentence. I might be wrong. It might have even been some slight Miyagi accent slipping :P)
I think it was something like "i had fun until the end" or "Having fun until the end"? :slink: double check would be appreciated :slink:

So would that be a no then? IE it doesn't translate to last prince (lets say you've got it right). It sounds more like he enjoyed his 2 performances, when you put it in English like that but I know it doesn't always have to be so.

Yeah it doesn't sound like he was hinting at it being the last (or that he is keeping it. Just saying he enjoyed it. I interpreted it like he wad fun in the gala...). At least it didn't sound that way for me at all :slink:
ETA: i think his Miyagi accent did slip because i can clearly hear him say "saigo made tanoshiindage" :laugh:
