Deniss Vasiljevs

^^^Welcome icetug! That was a great interview. I just love the easy relationship Deniss and Stephane have together...It was fun to see them up close at Worlds. Wherever they were going, they were hurrying! I think they were on their way to the draw.

On another note, I mailed a card to Deniss. I didn't write anything too profound -- mostly just congrats on a great season and I look forward to seeing his new programs for next year. Also be careful when training quads.

This is sososo beautiful! Simple, but inspired and recognizable :) Are you sending this to Deniss?
Thank you so much! that's the best compliment. I'll only send it to him on Instagram I think.
By the way, partially off topic but, I was browsing Deniss's tag on Tumblr yesterday and I think I found your [side] blog? May I know the requirements to join #the squad?

Your drawing is fantastic! I love your style!

I'm really not sure why they're going to Geneva. I don't think it's for a show, though. :scratch2: Maybe Stephane is doing a workshop there or something?
Thank you! At times like these I really wish he or Stephane were more active on social media... but that would mean less time for practice, so I think it's better to wait until new updates come out :)

Thanks!

Not sure if this was mentioned before but Deniss' Japanese fan page on twitter has published a mailing address (last pic) to send letters and stuff to him. Considering he's actually following them on twitter I believe this is legit? it seems to be the Skating School of Switzerland's official address so I think it's safe :)

Oh, I don't think there are any requirements except love for Deniss xD Just post your thoughts with #team deniss tag, and our small squad will definitely see)

The tag was originally a spontaneous idea during and after Worlds. We established it mainly to communicate with other fans but also to separate the content that has to do with Deniss a little into personal opinions and official photos or news. That's it basically. Unfortunately not every post with the tag is showing in the tag search at the moment, but it slowly gets better. Otherwise just contact one of us via ask or message!

I'll make sure to use the tag whenever I post something there, thanks! :)

Topic aside, I've seen so many comments lately (mostly on youtube) comparing Deniss and Stephane with Yuri on Ice characters and I... can't help feeling bit annoyed? I understand most of these comments come from a very young audience and I actually find a few single comparisons very funny, but when they cross the line and start shipping... :palmf:

I just received the most recent issue of International Figure Skating magazine. It has a nice article on Stephane that pertains mainly to how his life has gone in a new direction -- to be Deniss' coach. It starts out by talking about how Deniss came to be coached by Stephane and reviews Deniss' results for the season.

Regarding Worlds, Deniss says it was the highlight of his season when he received a standing ovation at the end of his long program. he said he was so happy. "For me, as an artist, that is the highest mark. I had so many positive emotions. I enjoyed performing and was getting this energy from the audience, and I was giving it back to them."

The article also talked about how he suffered a torn adductor muscle, an injury that Stephane also had to deal with during his career. There was talk that he possibly would miss the whole season to recover. Fortunately Stephane was able to recommend a Toronto physiotherapist who helped Deniss. For 10 weeks, Deniss was unable to jump, spin, or work on certain elements of the choreography. His return to training was gradual and painstaking. With the season fast approaching, there was no time to start working on a quad.

Deniss talked about the innovative spin that he executed at the end of his programs. He admitted that it came about by being too lazy to go all the way down on a sit spin one day. "My Dad said: 'Oh Deniss, that is a nice new spin. Are you going to do that?'". So it was a mistake but it turned into a new feature!

Stephane said it was satisfying to see that all the hard work paid off in Helsinki. "He has been improving with every competition and improving his personal best scores each time. It was a very interesting season for me. Coaching Deniss has changed my life. He is very special. He just needs confidence now."

(A lot of the info is stuff we probably already knew, but I was happy to see that Deniss and Stephane received coverage in this magazine. This is the second time they have had a full page feature on them.)

:thank: for posting this, as I no longer subscribe to the magazine! I love Deniss's positive personality and how open he is in his interviews!

Reading Youtube comments never ends well. ;) I try not to look at them 99% of the time. And hopefully Deniss doesn't see such things, but we can't bubble-wrap him and protect him for life, either. But I think Stephane has been through it all before himself, and would certainly advise him to ignore weird, creepy and negative comments on the internet.

Thanks for the summary of the IFS article, Arriba627! Even though there is a lot of press these days about our boy, there's almost always some new tidbit or wonderful quote from Deniss or Stephane. They are just such interesting people!

You're welcome. I wouldn't even say I consider it to be a great magazine. But as far as I know, it's the only fs magazine we have available to us in the U.S. that carries international news. And every now and then you do come across some interesting tidbits!...Totally agree, his attitude is so awesome and so refreshing. He seems to really be enjoying his journey!

I'm so glad he was able to overcome his injury as fast as he did, hopefully there won't be anything more serious later on and he can have a healthy career.

and of course that spin was an accident wow. sometimes laziness and messing around can create something amazing!

He is such an engaging performer. Just like Lambiel was. He will be among the top men by the time 2022. I hope so.

^^Always so happy when I see that skaters take a little time off before getting back into the grind of training again. They work so hard and are under so much pressure! Portugal looks great!

That Latvian TV report about Deniss in Switzerland has been posted & it looks fantastic! We get to see lots of on and off ice work, and some gorgeous Champery scenery. Stephane speaks English, but I hope someone will be able to translate the Latvian portions. And it's been said plenty of times before, but Stephane really shows what a great coach he is, someone who understands the importance of having a life and some influences from outside the rink.

I wonder if he is skating one of his new programs here? The music seems familiar, is it Buble? I'm no Buble fan so I hope not, but the choreo looks interesting, at least.

I'm not familiar with Buble at all, but his skating is so enchanting, that I'm already in love with this piece.
