Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

It would have been quite the surprise if Shoma skated to 'Homage to Korea' in his LP. :) Maybe he has his eyes set on a World Title in Milan. I could see Yuzuru missing Worlds if he wants to retire after winning the Olympics. Last time they were in Japan immediately after, so he probably felt like he had to go. Who knows. I agree though that Team Japan has a strong work ethic. Exhaustion, though, is real. The Olympic Games are tough.

:laugh2: I expect Yuna to appear to perform to the program in the gala opening at PyeongChang once again, but if Shoma shyly (and cutely) skates with Yuna, that could be quite something for me. :) Aside from the joke, I believe his team meticulously made the choice for Shoma to focus on combining his technical prowess and artistry well next season. Warhorse pieces mean they are universally familiar, so wherever he skates, the audience may easily engage in his programs. His LOCO of which music I thought I could never overcome from my musical preference persuaded me with his artistry in the end who I was previously very critical of his skating. lol..anyway, as we've seen already Turandot (though it might be revised or revamped), I look forward to the Four Seasons. :)

Have they officially chosen Grenoble? I had been trying to find some info but didn't see anything. And (pardon my lack of knowledge), is it possible to fly to Grenoble,or do people fly to Paris and then (somehow) get to Grenoble?

Grenoble has not been announced officially but it's a very likely location, last time we heard about it (I have reliable contacts), it was almost done.

Honestly, it's not that complicated to get to Grenoble. There are flights from Europe that arrives directly, otherwise, as MaiKatze said there's Lyon International aiport, and it's actually quite simple to reach Grenoble from there.

^^^Thx for the transportation info. I know Grenoble is in a beautiful area. A friend of mine is a French teacher and has been there several times. Now we need to find out Shomita's assignments. He did Bompard his first season, so we'll see! skating gods!

Unless the victory ceremony is not as poor as it was at the Grand Prix Final in Marseille this season, I'm really pleased with Grenoble

There wasn't even a banquet after, right? Every little GP event gets a banquet and the finale didn't. They should've done a three-peat of Barcelona instead. As long as Javier competes it should always be Barcelona. :D

Oh, I didn't know there wasn't a banquet. I rather thought of the paperlike medals, the shaky and way too high built podium, where Shoma nearly fell off, and the missing flags during the national anthem, dito at Éric Bompard a few weeks before. Never expected that to happen in France, it made me really sad as well and I hope, they will do better in Grenoble
Tbh - I don't want the GPF to be held three consecutive times in Barcelona, it can't believe there's no other city capable of hosting a tournament.

^^^You both make me so ashamed and sad

Nooo..don't feel that way! It's not your fault, Pika! I mean, I have no idea if it was really that bad. It's just hearsay, and even if it was, Shoma did good whenever he skated in France!

^^^France was a lucky charm for Shoma. 2015 - one of his few perfectly skated short programs, 2016 - phenomenal comeback skate in the FS at GPF to get on the podium, in spite of his costly error in the combo in the SP. I think I'm liking this idea a lot...I'd like somewhere in Eastern Europe though too like Budapest, Zagreb, Sofia.

^^^Interesting article. "I like and enjoy competing, so I want to remain an active skater for a long time." Glad to hear Shomita said this. A lot of people were saying he was going to be a one (Olympics) and done skater. I don't know where that opinion came from.

I must admit I'm always a bit intimidated when it comes to travelling to France. I've never been there, only travelled through Calais to get to the UK. There is this image that French people will hate you if you don't speak in their language...and well, my French is almost non-existant. *help* That kept me from going to Nice in 2012, when I really wanted to. I got to get over that fear somehow, for Shoma. :) Still I don't think he will do both European stops. NHK and CoC we can rule out. Maybe Yuzuru will go to France this year instead of SC? But then I don't know if Orser wants Yuzuru and Javier in the same competitions, and I'm almost positive that Javier will stay in Europe, too. And I think Skate America is still likely. Who knows.....

What do you think of Shoma announcing his programs that early? Is it protection, if someone also wants to use this music, so they know?

Don't know & too ignorant to guess about Shoma announcing early, but so happy to know his music choices! Can hardly wait to see the programs! ---I've been in France/Paris several times with only a little French, twice at tourist season height, and no one was ever anything but friendly and helpful. Go for it! If someone's rude, you can just practice compassion.

Here's the Bompard 2015 in HD, with the Spanish ladies. I know you all know it by heart, but just for love! It's still my favorite iteration of Legends for pure, fresh, disciplined, abandoned energy...and the mist! IIRC he commented afterwards with satisfaction that it was the first time he'd performed it to even 75% of what he did in practice. Madre Mia, oh yes.

Oh, the Madre Mia twins -- Paloma and Susana with Shoma skating through the mist. This was the one where he got lost on the way to the Kiss and Cry. It doesn't come through as well on video as in person that he had really good speed in this program as well as energy. I love that the ladies call him Shoma Uno, dos, tres! :laugh2: They are impressed with the program, especially that he does the 4T as the fourth element of the program. They don't particularly like the music that much. At the end they are saying "We'll see what surprises he has..." and then the You Tube stops.

They also shot his 1 minute Wait.....What? at Bompard. Look at the difference in his looks in a year and a half. He still looks like a little boy there. And his hair was so much longer in the back and he was using WAY too much hair wax. How cute can he be?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQEb0na0_FY

^^^I could deal with that too! Nice quick flight! Isn't that the one Yuzu has done several times?
