The inspiration behind Yuzu's design is wings, gold medals, and figure skating costumes.

Another new magazine Cover http://stat.ameba.jp/user_images/20170516/15/reichel-mh/44/d0/j/o1813256013938759820.jpg?caw=800
But wait...can you spot the typo???

I don't think this will be his last season based on how he's been talking in recent interviews. I think he'll be the Miyazaki of figure skating; he won't be able to keep himself away.

I hope so. Probably he hasn't decided anything yet, but I think that somehow he will be more inclined to stay. There are things he can do only as a competitive skater and he likes competition very much.
Anyway it will depend on the Olympics outcome and his feelings about it.

ETA He is really excited about "the quad era".

Even when he debuts his programs at shows (If he does) it will be a shortened version and we won't know his jump layout for sure till September at least!

I love these crazy long posts! :D

Nice to know I'm not the only one who is excited  I'm so curious though, it is sooo long to September :tantrum: (I'm mean what if what if...4A)

3A3Lo combo score is almost the same as quads :O Is it hard to jump? Is there any skater who jump it before?
I like his 3A2Ttano because it's so fast and the tano makes him looks like he wants to jump to the sky lmao

Yeah, crazy high BV. Pretty sure it has never been done in competition, at least one guy has landed it in practice though: https://www.instagram.com/p/BSgJGV1FhF9/ (shared on twitter, under the hashtag #3A3LO).

I do like his 3A2Ttano as well, though I have a soft spot for this 3A3T. I just think it rotates and flows amazingly  Love the one from Worlds12, also single 3A is so nice - I love his counter-turn ones but I would be curious to see how far he could jump his 3A with an easier set-up (are there any filmed ones from his pre-competition practices?)

Yes, he always talks enthusiastically about Boyang Jin's quads, and knows who's doing which quads, even if they aren't top 10 yet. Like Alexei, Vincent and other Juniors...he knew exactly when and what kind of quads they were doing.

I was just about to post it too LOL

There's some kind of news! *stampede to post first somewhere* :laugh2:

Yes, imagine when Yuzu appears back in Japan for the first time for Fantasy on Ice. --Whooo will be the first to post the news? we can race.
About the Eurosport video, I'm wondering why they didn't choose the best sample for each of the jumps. -Cause Yuzu has done better toeloops than that.

Including in his SP from Sochi! I guess whoever made the video just went with the first video that popped up in his search.

What to do with a dark and rainy day? Well, I decided to freak out a little with Excel and calculate the "highest possible total score" in men's figure skating and design some crazy layouts for Yuzuru  Well, that escalated quite quickly  so here are some results:

I really don't want to consider the physical possibility of these layouts. That would be just criminal xD

Interesting is, how much Yuzuru has improved his 4Lo during the last season. That was incredibly consistent! The embodiment of inconsistency was his 4S+3T though...

Good heavens, you've been thorough!
Thank you for doing what my crazy mind has been pondering but been too lazy to do.

His 4Lo is my favourite jump of all the jumps. Maaaybe equal with 3A. But it's just so swooshy!

Some of your layouts are a bit problematic because they Zayak all over the place. Remember you can't repeat any triple or quad more than twice. For example, your first proposed layout with new elements repeats 4S, 4T, 3A and 3T! That would make it an impossible layout in itself.

Edit: I just saw the words 4A-4Lo written down. I am going to die now, kthxbye.

This tweet seems to indicate that Yuzuru will not participate in DOI this year due to scheduling conflict. Poster said s/he called CIC (?) and that's what was said.

-It means we may need to wait a little longer to see his new programs. :( But it's a good thing that he's giving himself plenty of rest in the summer. -Or he's busy filming cheesy advertisements.

Fuuu... you're right! I only took into consideration that one jump can't be repeated more than twice and one of them must be jumped in combination. I forgot that repeats are restricted to two in total as well. Okay, that reduces the number of possible layouts massively, but there are still crazy combination options that I hardly dare to speak out  (4A+4Lo has blown my mind, too...)

A long interview with Keiji Tanaka, he talks about his season and also about Yuzu and Ryuju. -I may translate some parts. He's a really nice guy.
As always, this is a basic translation, so if you spot an error or want to offer an alternative translation, please comment.

Portions where Keiji talks about Yuzu:
-Do you talk about retirement with the athletes who are the same age as you?
K: I do talk about it. With my generation, Yuzuru and Hino are there and when talk is of retiring, "When should we do it" stuff like that. (laugh)

-What do these two (Yuzu and Hino) mean to you?
K: We first met at the Nobeyama training camp. Since we met, we've come all this way together. We've competed since we were novices, and by knowing each other's condition, for example if I heard that Yuzuru had landed a new triple, I'd feel like, 'uh oh' and it would make me work harder. In a good way it made me feel a sense of danger throughout the novice and junior times, and helped me be ambitious.

-Your impressions when you first met them?
K: Hino had a quiet personality. Yuzuru was the same as he is now. (laugh)
(at the Nobeyama training camp) the first person to talk to me was Yuzuru. In the line-up, Yuzuru was in front of me so he introduced himself. "I'm Hanyu Yuzuru". He's the same now, he hasn't changed a bit. (laugh)

- These two were intergral to your growth, in the process, was there ever an incident that made you think, "I must try harder."
K: At Junior Nationals, when Yuzuru won. I was able to feel the gap between us and Yuzuru moved to seniors soon after that and with out losing very often, he pushed his way forward.
I was able to see him become great from close by.

- Did you ever feel regret (kuyashii)
K: Of course, the feeling of regret was big. But one shouldn't only feel regret, since I watched him since we were little, I can frankly accept that he's great. Since I felt that I couldn't grow right away, Hino and I said "Let's move upwards, step, by, step" And it was nice that we were able to finally stand together last season at NHK.
