Yulia Lipnitskaya

I meant how Yuna Kim (debatably) should have won the gold medal in the Sochi Olympics over Adeline Sotnikova. I should have stated it more clearly

It would be wise for her to reuse her programs from last year, they were barely used in international competition and it would give her additional time to work on her elements since she knows her programs and it would hopefully help with the mental part.

Very sound advice. I would prefer that she go back further for the SP, to either Elvis or Megapolis. Les feuillies mortes doesn't have as much emotional potential as either of the earlier SPs because the playing contradicts the music. They perform Lfm using jazz swing with lots of ornamentation, but the music describes someone sadly reflecting on lost love. It's like dancing on a grave. Performance should reflect message of the music, but in Lfm there is a disconnect. In order to achieve maximum emotion, Yulia needs performance and music to be focused on the same message. Here is an example using the same tune as in Lfm altered slightly, but played in a way that powerfully unites performance and music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfc-AMFSoHM This is all about yearning and love in both the music and the performance, here unity of message and beauty create a powerful emotional experience. Here is a superb adaptation of that music to the film 2046: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHjFc3FWKfk Each medium of expression in this moving scene amplifies the message of yearning and love, each perspective contributes depth and power to the whole. Yulia's performances will be strongest and most memorable when she skates to music that is focused on a single message in both music and performance, as in Megapolis.

I really hope so!!! My advice would be keep that amazing SP and let Lambiel give her a new FS and focus on doing the most clean FS she can. In my opinion she is something special and my interest in the sport is going downhill because she really seems to capture the "skate with your heart" aspect that I don't find in many others. I think without Gubanova I'd just have tuned out a lot more. No disrespect to anyone else because I'm a fan of many other skaters but the soul of my reemergence as a fan of elite figure skating was 100% due to Julia. 100%

About half-way through this interview she talks about her time with Lambiel. He strikes me as a dance coach more than a choreographer. She loved his musical spontaneity, but added that his contributions were not what she and Alexei came for, and that she and Alexei used some of his work in her FS. It sounds as if she and Alexei did most of the choreography for both programs using some of Lambiel's movement. This could be a good thing given the personal nature of her skating--I've long believed she is her best choreographer. But she benefits from insights about structure from conventional choreographers (e.g., Leningrad). If Yulia wants to go with an improvisatory style, then Lambiel is the man. His music is part of that improvisational package. I doubt his music choices will bring out Yulia's deeper side.

Wow!! This song has "Yulia" written all over it. I totally agree, and hope she at least listens to this song.

An aside: the song is emotional for me...or, rather, my parents who loved it and considered it to be "their" song... :slink: ;) brought tears to see Yulia skate to it..... hope she keeps it this season, fingers crossed.

Yulia didn't get any GP events :(
That was expected, since she lost too much points in ranking those last seasons to be given even 1 spot. Her chance is now on the test event, since there's one spot still open for RC.
This, or she decided to skip the GP season or to retire. We'll see soon enough.

Wait... so does this mean she can't go to the Olympics? Sorry if this is a stupid question

No; but doing well on the GP circuit would certainly be a help to qualify for the team. It's not impossible, but it's going to be an uphill struggle, I think it would be fair to say.

Yes, not doing GP doesn't mean she's out of Olympics for sure. If she does senior B competitions and does well at Nationals without going to RC, she may have a chance. A small as it is, you never know what can happen in a few months.

It doesn't mean she can't qualify but it will be extremely hard. Russian Federation takes into consideration not only results from Nationals but also performances in last competitions. Look at what happened after the Worlds: disappointed with Anna's and Maria's performances they decided to send Elena to WTT despite the fact that she had been 5th at Nationals and last in GPF.

We have to wait for decision who will be host's pick for Rostelecom Cup. Yulia has a chance as top Russian ladies already got assignments but she still will have to fight for it

This was posted a few hours ago. It gives us a general idea of Y&A's plan, sparing details. See You in September.

Urmanov: Lipnitskaya plans on the Olympic season will largely determine the reference rentals

Plans Champion 2014 in the team competition in figure skating at the Olympic Julia Lipnitskaya season will largely determine the results of the control box office, which will be held in September this year in Sochi. This Tass coach athletes Alexei Urmanov.

On Friday it published a list of the participants of the Grand Prix figure skating season 2017/18. Lipnitskaya not get into it.

"Julia is not stated - she missed almost all of last season and not an open secret that the decision of the recent Executive Committee of the Federation of figure skating Russian skaters she went to the reserve squad, -. Urmanov said -. It is restored, alive and well, with her everything is in order. we are waiting for the September kontrnolnyh rentals, and after that we will make decisions and plans. "

"Юля не заявлена - она пропустила практически весь прошлый сезон. И не для кого не секрет, что решением недавнего исполкома Федерации фигурного катания на коньках России она вошла в резервный состав сборной, - рассказал Урманов. - Она восстанавливается, жива и здорова, с ней все в полном порядке. Ждем сентябрьских контрнольных прокатов, а дальше уже будем принимать решения и строить планы".

I came here because I saw the twitter update that she's back training and is well.. it does my heart good to read the news and I hope she's really well and that we can see her soon in the competition!! I've missed the sparks she has when she skates and think that it'll be a waste if we won't get to see it again.

I'm happy to hear that and I hope the next season will be much better for her. :agree2:
