Absolutely. She lacks the softness of Marin and Anastasia but she is much ahead in tech. And it's not only about the difficulty. The quality of her jumps and spins is higher than Marin's. It would be a scandal if she lost JWC to Marin with the skates that she had.

Pcs is subjective in many aspects. But I enjoyed Alina's programs much more than Marin's - rewatched DQ zillions of times.

At the same time, once again, both Honda and Gubanova are terrific young skaters. I just mean that Zagitova's victories were fair and square on all accounts.

Landing is part of jump quality and Marin's are much softer and elegant than Alina's.

I agree that Marin has better skating skills but in other aspects of component score they are equal. Please remember that bad choreography isn't Alina's fault and it doesn't mean she isn't connected to music or has bad interpretation. Also as I said: Alina was 7 points ahead of Marin in TES so do you really think that Honda should have 8 points more than Zagitova in PCS? She is better but not THAT much better.

Most of the current Japanese, Marin included, have soft bent knee on the landing. I cannot say I find it elegant. Zagitova's landings were quite rough at the beginning of the season but, I think, she improved later on.

For me it looks like they are saving the jumps. The ultimate embodiment of this technique is not Japanese ladies - it's Megan D. when she lands quad throws and sometimes Shoma. I am definitely not jelly about those landings.

I would agree that there is some ease about Marin's jumps (and her skating in general). Her soft knee landings do not distract that much as some other skaters'.

Actually many people here were very critical about Serafima's soft knee landings. I am sure these were different people than those who praise now the landings of the Japanese ladies.
 
Serafima's "ugly bent knees"? Well, that brings up some memories...



The general state of jumping when it comes to the basic technique has been somewhat disappointing to me in recent times. Maybe it's because of the skaters pushing for triple rotations for everything without paying as much mind to actually having the technique itself absolutely perfect.

I guess this is a fine time to mention the 13-year-old Alexandra Trusova, who in my opinion has absolutely stunning jumping technique. Especially the lutz is just divine. Hopefully she manages to hold onto it until seniors.

Soft knees is a better technique. It saves on future knee surgeries. With soft landing, the impact on the joints is four times the skater's body weight. With a hard landing it is six to eight times the skater's body weight. So you must be able to see how much difference it makes to someone's joints, and especially knees and hips.

In two days Shcherbakova will participate in "Dreams On Ice" show in Japan, alongside Med, Sotskova, Marin and other top Japanese skaters. I wonder, if we see some nice surprises, if you know what I mean... :popcorn:
 
^ No info, jpn ice shows are usually pretty well copyright-protected, so I doubt it. I expect skates to leak few days after though. Whatever happens there, skating before great auditorium among so many stars should be great experience for young Anna. :yes:

I'm pretty upset they chose MIRAI nagasus previous and current SP when she has already announced she is keeping it for this season. Poor MIRAI....

Last I checked Mirai doesn't own this music. Announcing music early doesn't prevent other skaters from choosing it either.
