2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I'm pretty upset they chose MIRAI nagasus previous and current SP when she has already announced she is keeping it for this season. Poor MIRAI....

I understand where you are coming from, but perhaps think about it like this. Chopin's Noct. in C# Minor is one of my absolute favorite pieces of music. (I personally prefer the piano arrangement, but can see how Bell's version on violin lends itself to produce more lyrical skating.) Now I am no competitive skater, but if I was and it was the Olympic season I would use this piece of music because it is ultimately my experience, my training, my vision/program, my dreams, and only my regrets for not doing so.

There is no reason for Mirai to feel down about this news, rather I feel she should use this as motivation to make this music iconically her own through her performance quality/feeling the tension and sadness in those long held notes. There is no reason Mirai can't sell this program sublimely with a solemn and mournful (not distant/uninterested) expression, a correctly timed fully extended spiral, and (for the love of god) a layback spin into Biellmann where the final position is incredibly fast and is held for longer than the required 3 rotations needed for being awarded the additional level. On Instagram Mirai has posted some of the most exquisite (fastest, centered, extended) layback spins...we just don't often see her bring layback spins of the same brilliance to competition. Not that the ones she does in completions are not lovely, I've just seen her do better.

Outside the fact that of course Mirai doesn't own the rights for this piece, i also think that the choreography looked too simple, it wasn't an impressive program overall (the dress was beautiful though).

Demons was much better (even though i hate that version of the song)

If Leonova doesn't compete in the GP, who is her substitute? Are the substitutes even listed yet?

I'm not completely sure why Leonova got two spots, there must be a reason.

Just to make things clear: Alena earned her GP spots thanks to her placement on the SB list. She wasn't given any favors.

Wait I read the interview and I see nothing which would suggest that Leonova won't compete in GP. Or my Russian is too rusty or there is some hidden content

And notion that Russia can just give her FOREIGN GP spots that she was invited to to another Russian is HILARIOUS! This isn't the JGP. How one earns a spot on the GP has been explained more than once here.

People are hating because there is no rumors that I know of that she is w/d from the GP. That interview was posted on her fan page not even 2 weeks ago and I've checked other forums and no one is talking about her nor has the ISU site been updated to this "supposed" withdrawal. So I can only say someone is being a jerk for changing her wiki page to say she has withdrawn. Unless someone has anything other than wiki?

Alena had a higher SB than Gracie, and apparently she doesn't deserve GP slots, but according to posters here Gracie's going to turn everything around and could even win the OGM...okay

Also a higher SB than Julia, Serafima, and Stanislava and yet we are asking why she got a spot

Do we know what is happening with Leonova? Is she injured? Did she really give away her GP assignments? If so, why? She's one of my sentimental favs....
