Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

I've been thinking with these past two Turandot performances that he's planning to do 4Lz 4Lo 3A // 4F2T 4T3T 4T 3A1Lo3F 3S. That's around 113 BV if I'm not mistaken. I think the 3A might end up going solo in the first half because I'm not sure he'll want to stop having all his combos in the second half.

If the 4Lz doesn't get ready in time, then he'll probably do the WTT layout, with two 4F and the 4F combo in the second half, which was around 107-108 BV.

I think that's a very, very, VERY ambitious layout and hard to skate clean. I'm not sure, did he say anything about having 5 quads in the program? And did he jump the flip in combination before? I'm not so sure....I mean, he's probably adding difficulties, but this seems so hard.

I don't really have a problem with the costume. It's pretty sure that what he's wearing at the shows these days are not competition costumes.

I think the costume doesn't look half as bad as I seemed to remember it and in the shots posted by iorii it's actually very tolerable (I also think it's a stand-in though).

Finally went to PIW Tokyo today. It was GREAT. Found a little bit of difference by comparing with the previous music, he did well jumps, combo, spins, almost perfect. My seat's really good one to see whole program. He seemed to lose some weight, but staying healthy as jumped a lot. All're excited, even now I can't come back to the real world

Maybe he looks like he lost weight, because his cheekbones are becoming more prominent as his face seems to be maturing so much lately? Just a thought...because Shoma apparently said that he hadn't lost any weight.

I am a bit obsessed with BV, I admit. Those options are basically around 111-113 BV, depending on whether he repeats the 4T or 4F. I think this is actually a more likely option, but I was going for the idea that he might not want to forego all his combos in the second half. This assuming he'd go for 5-quads if he adds the 4Lz.

I do agree with MaiKatze that this seems like a very ambitious layout, and it might be hard doing it clean. I do think he is trying to prepare himself for a 5-quad layout with the 4Lz, but also keeping in mind an alternative with 4-quads, like the one he tried at WTT with 2x 4F. That might allow him for better consistency and risk/reward.

This reminds me how I saw on twitter people speculating that the men are basically preparing themselves for the possibility of Nathan landing a 7 quad FS at Olys.

Could this be the reason why he's had some problems with the jumps? They don't feel the same as before.

Oh wow, Kanna that's great. How is the music different? Is it another singer or different parts? I just cannot unsee 2015/16 Turandot so it's hard to imagine....cantilever into final spin?

MaiKatze, yeah, I went the last evening show, there's cantilever into final spin. abt the music, the first, the main & the last parts're same, different part'd be like 'just before' male vocal starts to sing. According to others, the vocal's changed.
Overall, he did Tulandot four times during two days, even in those he's been improving! Like last year,
Shoma will change the program & costume often, we need to keep watching it throughout the season

synesthesia, yep he said he's not lost some, but obviously he lost, maybe because he's been spending busy busy days. Next he'll go Osaka, Nagoya for 'The Ice' from the end of Jul. Hope he'll have a good rest...and if he's tired, he needs to cancel joining the show..

yep, the Ice'll be!probably local TV program only? not sure yet..suddenly changed.
he'll be in Osaka from the end of this month, then go to Nagoya until Aug 6 for the Ice as it's venued in those places.

ah, the flower crown's often sold in some flower shops, not cheap, usually we give the sun flower crown to Miki Ando, Rose one to Johnny then Shoma's added after WTT kiss & cry.

I wish I could think of something fun to throw on the ice for him at Sk Canada. I guess right now I'm thinking I've already given him 2 gifts he'll probably never use! My favorite I would like to give is a teddy bear wearing his costume, but I guess I'll have to wait with that since we don't know his costume...Someone had one like that at Worlds for another skater. It was SO cute!

I agree with Latremu that he makes any costume look good. He's SO photogenic. Being that this is the Olympic year, I'm sure they're working on something extra special. I would assume he (and his mom) give their approval.

And actually that costume he's using for the shows probably cost a small fortune. I don't care for it much, mainly cos I just don't "get" the diagonal stripe on the front, the kind of sparkly waistband (NOT good for his tiny frame), and the ruffle (feathers?!) on the shoulder. I thought he didn't like frills?!

Woodorf I heard one time Shoma was asked "You are loved by everyone, right?" His answer was translated as "No, I am not so adored." I remember thinking, GOOD! Let him live a normal life, not a life where he is a prisoner of his fame.
