Deniss Vasiljevs

There will be an interview with Deniss tomorrow on Rhone FM :) Pre-recorded, I guess? I hope they will post the whole thing online.

Thanks for the info!
Seeing as how it is a French radio, I assume he'll speak in English and they'll translate? Unless his French has gotten good enough in the meantime (He's a talented polyglot after all, but I guess it's still too soon for that :D).

Happy birthday to our sunshine! :hb::clap: 18 years is quite a milestone...hope he has a very memorable celebration!

Unfortunately Deniss's interview on the radio was very brief, and although he spoke English, a man translated into French over him :( Stephane also said a few words. It's here on the 07:00 replay (starts at about 17:15).

I don't have time to write down the entire interview (even if it is only three minutes long), but every time Stephane speaks French, I'm just thrilled someone is speaking French I can understand.... (as opposed to a Quebecois accent that gives me fits;) )

Stephane talks about some competition or gala to be held at the school in its third year.

The announcer says that Deniss just turned 18, he has been training at Champery one year, gives his standings at Euros and Worlds.

Deniss says (retranslating) he loves Champery, he loves looking at the mountains every day, the ice is excellent, it's the best area in the world to train, he is working hard to improve, and for the opportunity to compete at the Olympics.

Then someone (Stephane, announcer?) talks about Deniss, that's he not just a good skater, but has a wonderful presence on the ice.

This is obviously a very loose translation, but I'm glad our boy is getting even more publicity in Switzerland!

It was Stephane who told that. I believe (as I understand very little French...) he also told that Deniss is an incredible skater and it is a pleasure to work with him.

Deniss is such ecstatic talking about Champery! I am sure that the attitude helps him in hard work.

Not sure but it seems to be a part from Puccini opera Toska. Deniss and classical music go together very well.

You are right, it can be "Tosca". The music just before "Recondita armonia", Cavaradossi's aria in the 1st act.

I'm very excited that we'll get to see him in just 3 weeks :) I don't want to have high expectations since it is so early in the season, but I look forward to seeing the new programs and just seeing him back on the ice. I hope there will be a decent quality stream.

I'm so excited! I was almost resigned to having to wait for Rostelecom but now 3 weeks feels long. Definitely agree about managing expectations but it's not an outrageously tough field - other than Shoma of course. The important thing though is seeing the new programs. Will he try a quad?

Deniss, Jason, Shoma -- I'm almost ready to hop on a plane myself!!!! :hap57:
