Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

–––– Unlike in Sochi Olympics, you are in the position of being chased.
“I don’t especially think I am in the position of being chased. Compared to Sochi, the competition for a medal is much fiercer. Everyone right now has their own attributes, and we encounter and clash as fellow [competitors], so it’s a lot of fun. My identity is as an all-rounder, with high quality in everything, and I would like to properly leverage my own weapons and fight.

–––– What is the difference in approach?
“At Sochi it was a lot on my plate, but my own path [that I should take]––something like that––has become very clear now.

–––– What is the difference in approach?
“Recently, I was looking at videos and articles of interviews before and after Sochi. ‘So that was what I was thinking back then’, ‘Oh, I was trying not to be bound by my past self” and so forth. These are all my own experience, so it’s quite advantageous after all.

- There is a reason for such confidence. Off-season. Hanyu continued to face skating [in his university courses]. Ergonomics, Medicine, Ethics––he reached out in all directions seeking hints for [further] evolution. Sometimes applying his own jumps into mathematical expressions, analyzing their “moments”––the turning effects of forces. “I aim to be a skater whom, any way they slice it, [people would have to say], ‘Hanyu is just so good.’” The ambition to aim for the top of the podium drives the 22-year-old.

Count me for a black costume!

Actually, although I like all the bling, my favorite thing is to watch him skate in his Under Armor training clothes. It just highlights his legs and athletes body in such a pleasing way. When he did Seimei the first time I was a bit sad that the baggy costume didn't allow you to see the curve of his back during the cross rolls that was evident during practice.

I honestly doubt that Yuzu will bring out black costumes for the programs (aside from the pants, of course), though yes it would bring out his movements much more. But then again, while I doubt the black outfit, I never imagined that the first LGC costume would be full white, so who knows?

But at least, we know both programs will have new costumes. I look forward to seeing them!

Since Seimei 1.0 is my favourite program of his so far I'm more than happy there will be Seimei 2.0! :)

And I'm not worried about new costumes - he looks handsome in almost anything. ;)
Dark colours are a good contrast on white ice but I think whole black costumes tend to be too harsh and depressing.

So he's not only going for the Medvedeva consistency (tm), he's now also upgrading his 3T into a rippon. Just as long as he doesn't start 'tanoing anything... or Brian might have to have a stern talk with him.

Now this makes me wonder if he could try to rippon his 3F. It's the only bullet he's left to gain there; not that it'd give him the 2.10 GOE total the 3F deserves.

Yuzuru said here he had not changed the music cut at all from previous SEIMEI.

I've just been looking at Japanese Twitter since I was curious how the public think about Yuzuru's music choice for FS, and what I found was that this program is sooo loved and popular! Most of people are so excited to see Yuzuru's SEIMEI again and they say they can't wait. I know they are casual viewers but it's nice to know SEIMEI is well known :)

What? So the previous info was wrong- music cuts remain exactly the same? OMG... Not that I don't love it... But the amount of unhappy comments he is getting since the news came up is just... hard to overlook. I hope he knew what he was getting himself into.

May I ask you the source of the previous info (if you know:))? I've heard that the program has some new choreography but I haven't heard about the music. There are a lot of articles so I might be missing something. But in this article, he said "I have not arranged the music at all".

Sorry, I can't. I feel like I got it wrong because of the volume of news cuts and different translations. If the music is the same- then it's the same. New choreo parts- obviously, new rules, new content, etc. I wish his step sequence remains same sexy, I really loved those turns and moves he made.

So glad to hear that. I'm also happy that he goes back to Seimei.
It's no doubt that this music belongs to him. :luv17:

OMG, this is so beautiful. I seriously think Evgenia has a positive effect on him. As much as I love the wild Yuzuru that can turn the tables at any moment I understand the consistent/unbeatable Yuzuru is what he needs now. He broke all those world records and pushed the sport to its limits but he has never given this aura that "the KING is here, just sit back, relax and enjoy". Now, it's the time to make the image of unbeatable king (like unbeatable queen). Mark my word, he is going to repeat his OGM regardless of what happens in between.
