That's mean that Shoma had landed all quads except axel in training right??

I'm not sure about the salchow. I think he has at least tried it. Maybe others remember better?

Please do share my photos. I always put them out there hoping they will make people happy! I feel like many people are DYING to hear news about him!...Although I love watching the Winter Prince compete, I think I love watching him train even more. He is looking so good and so strong. And his new face is looking great too! I was truly embarrassed to ask him for his autograph. I wanted to last time he was here but just couldn't. I don't know why I worried though. He was just sitting there talking with Kotaro, so I said "Why not?!" Of course he was super nice and polite, as always.

Thanks Arriba for the reports, pictures and videos! :thank: Had his English skills improved since you last saw him? Or was it still thank you and that's it :)

I prefer the term "sex god":o:

j/k

Anyway, yes, I really was perplexed that Glacier streams the practices of Shoma. But ShoSho must've given his permission and doesn't seem to be overly secretive with his training, and doesn't mind people watching. Which is good. I think if you're too secretive with it all it just adds pressure and speculation when the real competitions come along. I'm so happy Arriba got that autograph and is now in the presence of the prince. Only 5 days left, I wonder if Shoma will return in September or October. It just feels too short a time. Haters gonna hate, but if Shoma wants to add the Lutz it's his prerogative. And I also think the judges love to see a skater challenging himself and improve over the season. Just remember the Loop last year. Yes, our Shoma is steadily climbing up the steps to the top of the podium. And keeps smiling while he's at it! :dance3:

Well, sex god works too  I think all the falling and laying on the ice like with the pirouettes just shows how he's having fun even though he's training hard. And quite often when you're having fun you will also get better results.

I haven't really ventured outside this thread and by the sounds of it maybe that's a good thing. I just wanna say that everyone I have "met" in this thread have been really nice people and I don't really care about the haters. People here have been giving on-site reports, making translations and finding news. I really appreciate it! And it's great that there's a place where we can discuss what is good about Shoma and what needs improving. I will join in to Latremu's group hug, definitely! :ghug:

Here's a picture of Shoma and Takeuchi where you can appreciate the "new face" :agree2:

I haven't dropped my posts here quite for a while, please accept my belated but warmest WELCOME to Shoma's new fans here. :):):)

GS Forum is a very very friendly discussion forum, especially this fan threads. So post often and post long. :) However, it's the Olympic season, every fans of the sport would want his/her favorites to win Olympic medal, understandably. It may get really nasty sometimes ;), we'd say, but no need at all to feel disappointed or get offended by some harsh comments at various threads, just ignore them, please.
Let's stay positive and supportive to each other :ghug:, and to our little Winter Prince :ghug:, and wish him to do well, no serious injuries in the new season.

To those who a bit worry about the language, I assure you that my poor English did survive almost ten :eeking::laugh: years now, so no worries!

oh lord... so shoma tries a jump... for fun perhaps... and the world breaks down.... WHAT IF he included it and got full credit on it... OMG... he would be unbeatable...

I laugh... I will say it once and for all... I am a Shoma fan. I do not like him because of his technique though I love his edge jumps. He has plenty to offer as a skater whether or not he has an edge problem or not.... please.... I am a fan of Patrick... who is considered behind technically because he doesn't do those big jumps... and when I read this "behind technically" i am laughing hysterically... because Patrick is a master of technique... sure... he never thought he would need such big quads.... and so many of them... but all his jumps and his skating are textbook....

anyways... here is the main point of my post in here right now

If the Edge bugs you, with such thread full of negativity, always know that's why the fan fests were created for. Some Patrick fans do not even go anywhere else than the fan fest because they couldn't deal with the hate and the bashing.... now that Patrick is an underdog, suddenly people don't bash him so much... i guess they are hitting on Nathan and Shoma instead.... soon enough they will hit on my "son" (Conrad Orzel) who just attempted a 4 quad program for the first time last month...

This is ridiculous... do not let the negativity ruin your experience.

GO SHOMA

this is exactly the clue of the affair - big WHAT IF made into sensation and a shooting point to get someone's frustrations out on Shoma or any other quadster trying new stuff. And Shoma is particularly convenient subject I'd say - young, talented, already successful AND being a threat to the biggest. So regardless, if it was for fun, if it is for strenghtening Lz technique, if it was serious quad inclusion preview - lots of people seem to be worried about this perspective, instead of being curious or excited. And if only that worry would be sourced from genuine care about Shoma's health etc...No - the 'worry' is sourced more from the fact that this attempts may turn indeed successful (which is beyond ridiculous itself) and it powers some defending mechanism in a form of pouring Shoma's jumping imperfections on a jump he just tried. It takes quite a work to be honest, looking at those opinions sometimes, to make them honest and impartial.

I grew to understand that some reward and praise certain skater for anything, bashing and criticizing another particular ones for everything. Some even do not need a reason to praise the favourite - hating his/her rival is also a form of praise for such people. At such moments I remind myself that I also like/adore and watch skaters not because they always win, but because they are themselves - with all individual style, qualities and imperfections, too - and because tey are able to move something inside of me, being themselves with all package, not trying to be something else or to get to someone's level.

I always valued and value Shoma for embracing things he was always supposed to be ashamed of: his height, small frame, jumping technique he has. He was able to transform those into things being so characteristic for him and only him. He shown tons of determination and dedication to develop as a skater, performer, to improve his technique, not losing this importance of having fully-rounded, deep performance, great emotion, refined movement. It's a shame for me to witness that some could focus only on one's imperfections and other's brilliance. I'd take Shoma's words anytime while he states that he's working on everything, because 'everything' should be taken into view and consideraton looking at every skater, not only things that are convenient for personal use.

Welcome Little Lady. Alex Ouriashev is known as a great jump technician and has helped many people. Coach Frank Carroll and many others send skaters to Alex for jump training. There is always a lot of action at Alex's rink, and you never know who might show up on any given day.

MaiKatze, I'm wondering if Sho will work with Alex for a few days prior to going to Skate Canada. It would also give him a chance to overcome his jet lag a bit. It's not super convenient in terms of flights, but it would give him another opportunity to work with Alex for a bit and fine tune the jumps now that they would be fully integrated into his programs. He did that prior to Skate America last year, and it seemed to really help.

Yes but there are those like Alex and others that send skaters to Frank Carroll and Tom Z among others for the same jump technique training. Carroll is one that works with the USFSA and travels all over to fix jumps.

For example: Jason Brown and Kaetyln Osmond have been going to Frank for several years for jump training (Kaetlyn since at least 2013).

Yes -- 100% right! And I say -- share the knowledge! I heard a rumor (and it is only a rumor but I'm writing it because I hope it will come true!) that Jason might be working for a short while with Alex. We'll see what happens. I would love that! Another jump doctor is Anthony Liu, but I haven't heard too much about him lately. I heard he was really good.

But how does one do that, "fixing jumps" or become a "jump doctor"? They cannot jump these quads themselves, obviously. So HOW does one learn to do it with the aid of someone like Carroll? Does it matter if the coach still goes on the ice with the skater? Or is that only important for the young ones who can still be...mmmh..manhandled?

Funny you would mention that. We were just discussing this today, and everyone had varied opinions. Some felt it was really important for the teacher to be able to demonstrate the jump, others said the teacher didn't even have to go on the ice. In Alex's case, he doesn't jump the jump but is able to explain the mechanics of it. When they look at the blade tracings in the ice, they can pretty much tell what happened with the jump.

Perhaps they also use videos these days? Yes, in the end it falls down to the skater. That's why I believe the top skaters who jump quads are the only ones who know how tough this actually is, and not those who nitpick or pick apart every little detail in slo-mo in front of their computer screen. And there are not many people in the World who can jump like this. I think it was in Helsinki at the press conference where the judges told ALL the men how much great skating they got to see and how proud they were of the guys. I thought that was really moving, because the judges are getting so much flack. But they are also human and fans. They know how hard it is.

I learned today that the Winter Prince now knows "It's so-so", like if someone asked you to describe your condition. I heard him talking today and had to just stand there for a few seconds and listen, even though I have no clue what he's saying. I love to hear his voice. He was pretty tired today in the last session of 3 and was doing a little more lying on the ice than usual! :laugh2:

Very nice photo of the new face. Pretty tough to get photos of the moving Shoma! The best are either videos of the moving Shoma or if you have an opportunity to ask him to pose.

I remember last year Fluffy was taping a lot of stuff when Stephane was working with Sho. I know they worked on the 4T quite a bit, but I'm not sure if she was taping choreo or jumps (or both). Wouldn't surprise me at all if they're using video. I know B ESP Chris' favorite description of Shomita is "He went MOTORING into that jump." And he really does - the speed is almost kind of scary. All of his 4Ts, 4Lo, and 3As were right in front of me today. Yikes. He may be small, but he is super strong! The best thing for nitpicking is to find the worst jump you can of the person you're criticizing, slo mo it, and then claim that's how all the jumps are. Please! :bed:

Expertise with years behind it. They read ice tracings, use things like Dartfish, and harnesses for just a few examples. Most of it is explaining for coaches/jump techs like Frank, Alex, Tom Z, etc.

Pooja was working on stuff with the harness today. It was pretty cool! Very fun to watch. :otopic: :hijacked:

wooo..phew. whatever. Go Shomita, I hope you stay healthy & in this new season I really hope you manage what you want to do✨

Another long and exhausting day for the Winter Prince. Darn, missed the first lesson again. He was walking off the ice as I was walking in. Saw the second and third lessons though. Honestly, the passion, commitment, and work ethic of this guy are incredible! The things covered were pretty much the same as yesterday - but always lots and lots of jumps, working on lutz edge, and flip picking. Bits and pieces of the SP and FS. Probably more Turandot today than yesterday. Looks like the 3 jump combo is (at this point) going to be right towards the end. I see the space for the cantilever. (He couldn't do it today - he was too tired). Didn't see too much (if any?) lutz and flip jumps. Possibly they emphasize that in the first lesson. The lady I was sitting with and talking to today kept saying how special he is! I have to agree with her! :yes2: :clapper: :party2: :2thumbs:

Oh wow I think his hair has grown longer!!

I shiver from reading your description of Shomita's jumps--ahh must be wonderful to see those jumps live. Of course he's super strong, just look at his thighs! And butt. He's a small man with big presence on the ice. I personally think if you're not a jumper/coach, you're not qualified to 'criticize' jumps.

Thanks for the report and videos, Arriba! I especially love that part of Turandot where he does the thing with his hands like he's an orchestra conductor.

I was just thinking about MaiKatze's question regarding the jump coaches teaching jumps despite not doing them. I guess they know the science behind the jumps and how to land them safely, sort of like a doctor who knows diseases and how to treat them, even if they've never had these conditions. Anyway, they've done jumps themselves (not necessarily the quads, but still), plus they've taught lots of skaters, so the knowledge comes through some experience and a lot of observation and study.

In addition, the good jumpers are not necessarily good teachers, either. Remember Mao Asada trying to teach Shoma to jump the 3A ("just go 'gyu!' and you'll be able to do it!"). Didn't work so well. The good jumpers, from a young age, just get it and have an inherent ability to jump, so they may not understand the struggle others go through to be able to do the jumps. They're like those math geniuses who couldn't teach math to an average person no matter how hard they try.

Thanks for the pictures and videos and reports, Arriba!! So great you're able to watch his practices live! Shomita is looking better and better!

Great videos! :agree: I love how effortlessly he moves on the ice. The movements are calm but he's still going fast. It's like he's not even trying he just magically glides forward. The spin is amazing! :hap10: No need for a suitcase in this one!

fyshomauno tumblr posted that ShoSho stopped training on the Glacier stream. I didn't subscribe, but can anyone confirm? Not ideal for us fans, but I understand the decision, as it's not only fans watching. I was questioning it in the first place. He doesn't need comments on his training from anyone, but his team.
