Gracie Gold's prospects for 2018 season?

Agree with El Henry. All this recent Gracie talk doesn't belong in the Champs Camp Thread.

It looks even worse than summer shows. Physically she looks like a completely different person, and may not even quality for this year's national if she did not earn it last year. I've never seen anything like this happened to an elite skater before. We still talk about her because we care, and she has two GP assignments ahead. Otherwise, I'd leave her out and talk about those who have a chance for the Olympics.

Actually... There's footage of Gracie doing axel half loop sal THE OTHER way... and it was clean, I think you were mistaken.https://www.instagram.com/p/BYRYkFNnCqq/?taken-by=superangiekatja

.... give first hand accounts of anything. I did so for the few here that actually appreciate it.

Ic3Rabbit, I appreciate hearing the reports you promised us in this thread. Thank you.

It reminds me of how Frank and Lori were getting blamed for Gracie's poor performances for, well, years, right up through nationals.

Ashley and Adam were also amazing during the summer shows.

Exactly!! The difference is that Ashley already has GP's, it's skaters like Courtney Hicks who I've seen land a triple flip, triple loop this summer that I really feel sorry for. Courtney has been up and down during her career but, she won a medal on the GP last year and she has landed a triple triple in competition THIS summer. I haven't seen Gracie land a triple of any kind in months!!

Yes it restricts movement which is why we don't usually wear them to train or even warm up. I'm pretty sure that the consensus about her wearing them is because she's self conscious about how she looks?!:confused2:

It's currently almost 90 degrees farenheit here and was near the same during practice and most everyone else was wearing tanks or tees.

That is so sad to hear. :(

Editing to let you know I appreciate the reports, too. Thank you for posting

Well, I love Courtney's programs this year, and I feel she's progressed as a performer, and I agree her 3F-3Lo is smashing. I'd love to see her at more competitions, maybe she'll be at one or two Challenger events.

The thing is, I'm really glad there are procedures in place for the selection process for GP season. No one loses their invitations because they haven't shown their full repertoire as yet; participation is based on what they've accomplished in the past. The way I see it, these procedures protect all the skaters.

:drama:

:rolleye: I don't have to come on and give first hand accounts of anything. I did so for the few here that actually appreciate it.
If it's so much of a problem then forget about any further accounts of Gracie today. I'll leave people to their delusions.

:slink:

I think it's just that people who care about Gracie want to defend her. It's a shoot the messenger kind of thing.

I appreciate you and anyone who gives a first hand account. It requires effort and no one is obligated to put forth any effort for others.

Don't be discouraged.

I guess I wasn't being literal in that she would be dropped from the GP, but maybe that she would be 'encouraged' to drop out by USFS so as not to humiliate herself more.

Please wise people of GS feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the USFS do something rather unpleasant to Rachel Flatt when she went to the Worlds ill prepared or injured? So they do have means at their disposal to get her to withdraw if they wanted to .

However, if she withdraws from her assignments doesn't the host nations have the option to replace her with whomever is available. This wouldn't necessarily open up places for other US ladies would it?

edited to fix my abysmal grammar.

They fined her. That was all.

The USFS has absolutely no power over whether Gracie competes at her GPs or not. And if she chooses to withdraw, they have no power over who the replacements will be.

Ah. I thought it was more than that. I thought it was a suspension? Or had she already left? Sheesh. I can barely keep anything straight at this point.

They fined her for what they felt was not disclosing an injury.

As for if Gracie's spot goes to a lady from another country... im ok with that, im always ok with that.

Ic3Rabbit... add me to the list of those who appreciate your reports and would happily read more.

True! Other than Skate America, the USFS has no power when it comes to GP assignments. I don't know where Gracie has been assigned but, if she were to drop out, or be replaced at say, Skate Canada, the spot would most likely go to a Canadian Skater. If not, I assume the host might select Courtney, Bradie, or Angela Wang who have all landed triple combos over the summer.

Thanks for the reminder. As I said I barely remember the incident but I remember thinking it was a bit.. petty on the part of the USFS. I mean Skate Canada could probably have fined S/B for going to worlds this year as they seemed still injured but it does create an unpleasant environment for skaters, does it not?

USFSA's position was lack of disclosure.... so with S/B if they were upfront it was not the same thing. The message USFSA was trying to send (I think) was don't hide the injury... then again, the logical conclusion is they might replace a skater so we are back to unpleasant environment...so who knows.

I will add that TomZ did a interview where he seemed to feel that USFSA was in the know about the injury... so who knows what happened... who knows what was told and what was known and what was petty and what was fair.

I was there too... I love her and have for years, which is the whole reason I went tonight! But honestly her performance was not what I was expecting... I wish there was another way to say it, but the two jumps were not the jumps you would hope for from an Olympian. The spins were lovely though, and FYI she used this year's short program music for one of her performances. I wish her the best and hope she finds happiness, either on or off the ice. I'll always be a Gracie fan!

:-) I think it was more my perception of it. It seemed petty to me. Not that it was petty but rather it seemed that way. I guess if the point was to get other skaters to disclose then it's less petty. Not sure.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread with talk of Rachel Flatt. I was just thinking of an example when the USFSA did do something to a skater that went to an event they were not prepared for. If that makes sense.

What jumps did she do?

The Rachael Flatt situation re Worlds was very different from the notion of USFS penalizing a skater re GPs.

Rachael's placement at Worlds would be a factor in how many slots U.S. ladies would earn for the following year's Worlds.

(And what happened is that U.S. ladies earned only two spots for the following year.)

If USFS had been informed in advance of Rachael's injury, it could have sent a healthy lady in her place to help make a go at three slots for the following year.

My sincere apologies to el henry and noskates that this thread continues to drift completely off topic from Champs Camp.

But I think that the point about Worlds slots being at stake is worth mentioning.
I would say that USFS has a responsibility to all its skaters to try to maximize the number of Worlds spots.

Yeah.. that was what I was trying to say about drifting off topic. Just people were talking about the USFS taking measures against a skater and that was the only public case I could think of.

I would also agree that with the effect of 2 vs 3 spots for next years worlds it's obvious why they wanted to prevent it from occurring again.
