Alina Zagitova

It's your own opinion. I think it's a very strong and beautiful program and stands out.

this program may stand out only because there is not a lot of a good programs in the rest of the field.
but i don't think that alina can challenge zhenya for the gold with this program. and eteri probably thinks the same

I think Alina's program is the type to really build and get the audience excited, which we know can sometimes be a big influence on the judges. I think it is wonderful, nothing high brow, just exciting skating.

I think Alina is much better than Zhenya was if you compare both girls at their senior debut at 15. Her jumps are better (no prerotation, no edge problems), spin positions and speed are a lot better and she is also a charming and light skater. I'm afraid she doesn't get the same amount of attention from this coaching team as she should.

Her Lombardia performance really flashed me.

Only criticsm: She should work on stretching her legs more.

And your fears are completely understandable. But in vain. For Eteri is very important to pay attention to each student as she had a negative experience when she was young and trainig as ice dancer in the Tarasova's group. TAT didn't pay her the slightest attention. (this from one old interview, you can find it if you like). Therefore be sure that Alina is getting as much attention, as much she can carry away.

Tutberidze is not stupid. I am sure she realises that it is better to have two possible contenders rather than one. What if Medvedeva faltered under the pressure? (Not likely, but one never knows. It is the Olympics after all, only one chance every four years.) Furthermore, if Medvedeva wins the Olympics, the chances are that she will retire to get some financial reward from all those offers that will be coming her way. It seems that Tsurskaya has not worked out as planned because of her frequent health problems, so Zagitova is the person who would be expected to take over after Medvedeva. Do you think Tutberidze would want to neglect her and risk that Zagitova will move to another coach?

Yeah, but still... one would have expected two new extremely good programs for Zagitova in her first year as a senior, also an Olympic year. The short is good, but not impressive, and the costume is really bad, it looks kitschy. The free, while I like it and can be effective for the public and Alina enjoys skating it and I hope it will bring her good luck, I would have expected a new brand program.

Why should Alina have a new program if she feels comfortable with the previous one? Moving to the senior level is hard enough, and to make it harder, the move happens in the Olympic season. If there is a way to make Alina more comfortable, why not use it? After all, there will be quite a few skaters using their program second season and Ashley Wagner will have her program third season. I am sure the judges will not look down on Alina for repeating the program, if she skates it well.

Because novelty attracts? The public and also the judges would regard with more interest a new program.

The way I see it, it's difficult to improve on Alina's FS from last year. The program is perfect for backloading, and all the jumps are on musical highlights. I don't know how easy it would be to find another program as ideal, and she skates it extremely well, so why not? I prefer her FS to Zhenya's, and I believe a number of others do too, so clearly keeping her FS wasn't the worst idea.

With this reasoning Ashley Wagner doesn't have to even bother because she has already lost. Having one program for three season, that can be matched only by Sui/Han when they were juniors/early seniors.

I was talking about expectations.
And I do think that people are more interested and attracted to new things, but this doesn't mean that the judges will give lower scored to those who are repeating the programs.

If the judges won't give lower score for repeating programs then why would it matter? Also, the vast majority of casual fans watching the Olympics would not have seen Alina skating Don Quixote before and like many have said, the program shows off all her skills in a beautiful package. Nothing to fix there.

Fun thing - I was watching the FS of Keatlyn Osmond and I was highly surprised when the music of Swan Lake didn't change into Moonlight . This proves how many times i watched Alina SP.

And Hanyu. :)

Her music is bombastic and it gets attention for the Olympic. I'd say Medvedeva's music is too serene and too weak for Olympic atmosphere.
