2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Just watched Osmond's FS and I have to say, it is the most inflated score I've ever seen, based on how she actually skated the program. I feel the program is too challenging for her. She cannot do fast/intricate arm movement as in the second half the program. They look random and unfinished. I think the original choreography was not bad, but she simply cannot execute it.

I'm serious: obviously i was minimizing just not to digress too much, but each country share its own cultural similarities with Russia. (and keep in mind that Russia is a huge country with many recognized ethnic groups, so not just one culture, one heritage)

All slavic countries shares many things, i was actually quite impressed how croatians understand russian well without knowing the language, in some case it's even a closer heritage than what Latin countries have.

The other big group are the Uralic Languages spoken in countries like Hungary, Finland and yet again Russia thanks to udmurt (Alina Zagitova should speak it), komi spoken in few repubblics

Then Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan belongs to the Turkic culture, and Turkic languages are also spoken in Russia (Tatars)

From a political perspective all ex communists or still communists from that area share similarities with Russia.

Then we have similarities due to migrations: for instance there are up to 1.5 mln russian speaking Israelis from various ethnic groups. (Daniel Samohin)

I'd rather say it's Russia, that shares its own cultural similarities with central and eastern European countries. ;)
The whole civilization came to Russia from the west - before reigns of Peter The Great, who made big European trip in 1697, it was quite savage country - f.i., he started developing country by shaving boyars' (magnates) beards to make them look more western-like! :laugh:
Then he acquired western specialist from every aspect of life almost: technicians, military servicemen, economists, traders, musicians, painters, sculptors, architects, etc.. and with help of immense demographic, terrain and natural resources, the country started to catch up with west.

This is all so true, however their history as wild as it is goes much further than that: cyrillic was created during the Kievan Rus' era, and Mongols were in "Russia" before that land was called Russia, the fact that Tatars still exists today is so fascinating (Gengis Khan would be so proud of them :laugh:).

Well no, Cup of Russia and Skate America don't overscore THAT much. I'm sure now many users will come here to post all the moments where Russia overscored their skaters, but no it wasn't THAT much and sometimes they didn't even overscore (remember when Pogo lost to Rika Hongo in Russia).

This was more like the Mordovian Ornament. I got it, i'm not too fond of it: if they want Autumn Classic to be this all party event for canadians then turn it into a temporary events otherwise it seems a little unfair for the other countries who send their skaters to these events. (i mean Mihara was arguagbly better than Osmond in the free skate, and she didn't even received a big score to be happy, tough pillow to swallow)
 
and you summoned canadians in the thread. that's what i feared. let the kaetlyn osmond fiesta continue.

'Were' is an understatement, Mongols raided, pillaged and burned Moscow Duchy many times, finally conquered it, installing obedient princes and collecting yearly ransom (Jarlig).

Early observatons of the olympic season. Med still looks pretty good and is clearly Russia's no. 1 lady. But the rest are all very vulnerable. Radinova does not look good. Jumps not as stable. Fighting spirit not as strong. Has not been able to improve her lines enough and someissues now iwth spins too. ET does not have her needed triple axel back yet. Pogo is injured and still tempermental and unpredictable. Alina is developing and unknown but not clearly a dominant skater yet at leasat. Maria is not really at hreat; rather blah but top 10 contender. Waiting to see what the Japanese ladies do

Just checked Gdansk's entry list. I'd say for participating of Alena there is more pros than cons. Daria Panenkova + Eunsoo Lim + two Japanese girls (which is always very strong). I mean, rusfed should take it into account, that theoretically place for Stasya there also 3rd-4th. Stasya already has 11 points. Eun Soo and Rika have 13 points. So, for example: 11+11 = 22 points against Eunsoo's 26 points and Rika's 26 points. Or 13+11 = 24 points, if Stasya will manage to beat someone. Anyway, chances are low. There is the only one right decision!

They didn't update the ladies standings after Minsk yet. I also remember, someone said Stasya will skate at Nebelhorn Trophy 2017, but she's not in the list there. So maybe we'll see her at another Challenger. She needs to earn rating points.
