She will compete at NHK and Skate America. Supposedly also the 3rd Cup of Russia event.

Mako Yamashita has a chance, she's currently 4th in ranking but it will all depend on the last JGP. We have Kostornaia, Samodurova, Rika Kihira and Nana Araki and they all have a shot at it.

Wow, 4 big names and only 3 podium spots! I honestly don’t know who’ll place where. I think each of these 4 girls needs a silver medal AT LEAST to guarantee a trip to the jgpf. That, or place 3rd with a strong enough score to bump mako yamashita out. I’m told that the 2 South Korean skaters in the field are strong, but they pose no threat, is that true?

These 4 ladies are coming with different JGPF requirements.

Kostornaya and Samodurova need just the 4th place to "bump Mako out" and at least the bronze to guarantee them JGPF. It means that both Alena and Sofia have to win over at least one of the Japanese. Then they are both in the final. The Japanese, on the other hand, need to get gold and silver. Then they are both in the final plus one more Russian - the one with the bronze. So there are 2 JGPF scenarios Russia-Japan: 5+1 or 4+2. For the first one at least one of the Russians has to get at least silver and the best of the Japanese is in.

Based on how the Koreans skated they can be a threat only in the event of total meltdown Tarakanova style. Even then they will have to skate better than at the first stage because 163 is not a score to win over Samodurova or Kostornaya (at least it seems like). It was not enough to win over Tarakanova with the clean short and 3 falls in the long.

Considering some of the PCS Zagitova has received, I don't think her PCS is suffering being the de facto Russian #2. Need I remind you her personal best SP (total score and PCS wise) had a fall.

I didn't think Zagitova would be doing so well but I also (rather foolishly) assumed that the judges would score her fairly. At least at Japan Open her scores were not as cray - but obviously part of that was to keep Mai ahead of her with her home cooked inflation.

Zag is very consistent and hungry to win which is why I think she will surpass Osmond (and deservedly so if Osmond continues not to skate clean). But let's not pretend that she's not getting any carrots from the judges and isn't already one of their faves.

If Osmond is clean, they will put her above a clean Alina.
 
Osmond is not better than Zagitova by any means. Only hilarious inflation on PCS marks can help her to be higher than clean Zagitova.
I kinda like Osmond, but come on, the girl who is struggling just to execute 7 jumps shouldn't surpass the girl who is performing the hardest combo like nothing special.

It’s kinda cool that a Russian lady has won every jgp this season, all but 1 being an Eteri student. I’m sort of expecting another at the top of the podium this week. Unless of course, Rika Kihira does her thing. Samodurova.... well, her jumps scare me.☹️ But I really like her. I know she really really wants to be at the top.
 
Maybe my problem with Evgenia's freeskate is that In the novel I loved Levin and Kitty's storyline while Anna and Vronsky's storyline was like watching a train crash you saw coming 100 miles away...

That said I enjoyed it more on the second viewing and the music is a nice departure for her. I still really love the original though, maybe she'll use part of it as an exhibition someday?
 
Sonya's jumps are nice and solid, they're just small. Also she fixed her URs. The main problem for her now - it's her 3-3 combo in the short program. If she will manage to do it clean, she will get the same scores as Daria or Anastasia T, about 65-66 points. In the free program she also can get more GOE and a bit higher PCS, and instead of 125 points get 127-128. So 190-195 points overall it's quite real for her.

If both clean, I would definitely put Zagi first in PCS.:biggrin:... Too bad for Zagi that I'm not a judge. :luv17:
Seriously now, she's definitely better than Osmond.
