2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Yikes......I had to double check and make sure this was the Russian Ladies thread. Now that Alina has beaten Tuk and Rad.....Is she considered the favorite for Nationals or is Med still considered the Russian #1? My next question is.....Who's going to get the 3rd spot??? The depth in Russia is both a blessing and course for their ladies...

Alina is Russian #2 since last Russian nationals. No changes there.
Being Russian #3 is a problem for a top contender. Yes, you are in the team but you'll be underscored until you move to #2 or #1.
Polina, Elena, Liza and Maria are fighting for that title (Russian #3) at the moment

Yeah, but Cup of of China was a really deep field. Put her in Canada last week and she's on the podium. I hope when the fed is taking things in consideration like the toughness of one GP assignment over another. Elena had two tough GP draws. Seems like this should matter some. I don't know.

RuFed couldn't care less about #3,4,5 and so on. They will have tough draws, no one will complain if they are dramatically underscored. They are in sink or swim situation.

Probably, Liza would be happy to go for more ambitious program, but the risk is too high atm

2A+2A SEQ just is a terrible idea.

I mean, she could just do 2A 3T and 2A 3T instead of 3T 3T and 2A 2A+SEQ and get far higher a score. You can't tell me 2A 3T would be too difficult for her.

She could technically do the program Miyahara used to skate with a 3ltz-2t-2lo at the start and then two 2a-3T in the second half.

It's a big question to Papa Mishin. Probably, they are goal is to skate clean with most comfy layout.

Next year will be crazy from a GP qualification perspective...
Anna has enough World Standings point that she could plausibly still remain within World Top 25... along with Zhenya, Alina, Lena, Masha, and Liza
Polina hasn't skated yet but it's plausible she could break into Top 25 SB and possibly even Top 25 World Standings if she ends up winning the race for 3rd spot on Euro / Worlds / Oly teams
Sonya and Dasha both have 190+ SB's and could potentially beat those at JGPF, and will be senior age eligible next year
Stasya has two CS comps ahead of her and also could be a wild card to break into Top 25 SB
Valeriya Mikhailova is currently sitting in #25 on SB, she could be knocked out, but it would be great if she could get another chance since there's still one more CS event that's not assigned yet (Golden Spin)

This will mean the possibility of 9 to 10 skaters for a max of 18 GP spots (probably less) -- so not everyone who qualifies for GP will even get 2 spots...
