2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

What do you guys think when you see Evgenia's lutz and Tuktamysheva's lutz and then look at the GOE's they get for it? Don't you think Evgenia gets too much GOE's for her jumps when comparing to other skaters who have better jumps? Or do I miss something regarding judging? Not a professional, so that's why I'm asking. It looks a bit odd to me.

the only issue with Evgenya's Lutz is on the edge, often unclear (it's not flutz all the time though as some user says): the rest deserves higher GOEs than Liza's lutz. More transitions going in, arm variation and spread eagle out of the jump.

Osmond and Daleman receive sometimes even higher GOEs than Zhenya on the lutz and they have the wrong edge as well, with better height and distance probably but way less transitions.

So it's not just one case.

Medvedeva's lutz also has terrible height and I don't consider it ever to be "effortless", both boxes that Tuktamysheva ticks. And I've yet to see a lutz by her that's not at least a !, regardless of what the judges mark it as.
Personally, I do think her lutz is overscored if it gets above 0 GOE. At least I've yet to see a lutz that deserves more, even with arm variations and transitions.

On a different topic, does the 2005 age group have anyone with a great natural sense of music? 2004 has Shcherbakova and I guess Gubanova at 2002 would be the one before her but I'm not sure if there are any 05s(or early 06s maybe) with a talent like this? Will there be a bit of a void after this current junior age group?

I just wondered because it seems to me that she has the wrong edge and when they show slow motion at competition it seems that often she does almost a full rotation on her toe pick before she goes into the air. Just wondered how much that or if that counts into the GOES after I compared them :)
On another term: I never really liked her grey dresses, but the black one from AK is reeeeeally nice!! :luv17:

Yayyyyy Polina!!!!

It will be very interesting, politics-wise, to see what happens if Polina outskates Maria all season and at Nationals, or if they are relatively close.

Anyway, I hope Polina skates well enough in the LP to show everyone that she's a major contender this season.

Can't agree more. She is brilliant in so many aspects. Hope she'll show her best tomorrow

Agreed. Her skating is brilliant.

And + 1 to whoever said above about liking Evgenia's AK black dress. It's beautiful, elegant, and mature. My favorite costume of hers ever by far.

Did you guys see Med's SP from NHK??? Spectacular....I love all the challengers but come on.....Evgenia is something special. Her opening footwork might be the most difficult I have ever seen. Her upper body carriage is beautiful and her arms are soft and fluid throughout her movements. Just a dream of a skater and I would truly love to see her in person some time. Bravo......:bow::bow:
